Phantom of the Opera (Solstice Summon – Empires and Puzzles)

Phantom of the Opera Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Phantom of the Opera and Odette are both fronting Empires and Puzzles’ Solstice Summon Portal, and today I’m asking, is Phantom of the Opera really worthy of the prestige?

I’m just back from holiday, which went a lot like last time. And this morning, I had been planning on writing a post about the Nine-Headed Beast.

But lesson #1 in life is to learn to Go with the flow, to Roll with the punches, and to Be like Water.

In that spirit, I will leap into the legend, that is, Phantom of the Opera.

Is Phantom of the Opera Worth Levelling? (Empires and Puzzles)

There are loads of high-grade Heroes appearing at a seriously rapid rate. And that was to be expected following the Big Balance Update.

If you go back to E&P’s original statement on the forum, you’ll find the following snippets:

The gist of our new direction is that Heroes’ power will now be allocated a bit more to raw stats, and a bit less to Special Skills. In addition, specific hard-cap values and rules have been set for many different types of Special Skills (e.g., “damage-to-all attacks should not go above N%”). As a result, Special Skills do a bit less damage whereas normal attacks (=Troop damage) do a bit more damage.

And…

We believe that placing a reasonable upper limit on the power of Special Skills in this manner will make the game feel more FUN and FAIR, as less battles will be straight-up decided by the very first volley of Special Skills.

Empires and Puzzles Staff

This is relevant to Phantom of the Opera (PotO) because it explains the almighty wack he’s gonna conk you with.

PotO has Power Stats of 942. That’s:

Atk: 933! Def: 920 HP: 1670

Now compare that with a certified monster, the recent Hurricane:

In fact, we need a table. “Les, get the table out!”:

As far as Power Stats go, Phantom of the Opera makes Aramis look like a Cub Scout.

Phantom of the Opera and his Stats Leap (Empires and Puzzles)

My Malosi, who is Limit Broken 1 with a full set of Emblems, has:

Atk: 855 Def: 898 HP: 1605 Power: 921

Limit Broken Malosi Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

…which doesn’t even beat the BASE-CARD version of Phantom of the Opera!

So, when we say Aramis hits 3 for 375%, we must acknowledge that that isn’t the same as Phantom of the Opera hitting 3 for 405%. -The Power Creep is evident even when measured against new Heroes.

And this sharp progression leaves me with little choice but to rate these Heroes highly.

How could I not? When they’re walking outta the Portal looking more jacked than your once skinny mate who’s recently started TRT?

Thankfully, there’s more to PotO than just raw strength…

Phantom of the Opera Breakdown, Empires & Puzzles

Phantom of the Opera follows up his massive hit with an uncleansable ailment, the Ballad of Obsession, for 4 turns.

All Status Effects are removed when the Ballard of Obsession is added, and they also get the following:

  • -40% Mana generation
  • -40% decreased healing
  • Immunity to new Status Effects, and
  • As mentioned above, this lot can’t be cleansed.

Breaking it down, the -40% Mana gen is huge, allowing you to plummet tiles or, on the other side, making it really difficult to charge a Hero.

The decreased healing will be more impactful here because PotO just bloodied everybody with his super uppercut.

The immunity to new Status Effects means there’s no hope of any hope.

And the fact that none of this can be bounced means that you’re now officially f~*ked. -Tying this complete menace of a Special into a neat little bow.

When I think about stopping this nonsense, Malosi again comes to mind, at least for the Status Effect, which I presume the Ballad of Obsession is.

Or a Miss Hero like Bai Yeong.

Or a Hero quite similar to PotO and his partner in crime, Odette; Guardian Gazelle.

But overall, as far as I can see, Phantom of the Opera is a superpower.

Dare I say it; he might even be considered a little overpowered. But you tell me what you think in the comments below.

Phantom of the Opera (Empires and Puzzles)

My final thoughts:

There’s no doubt that due to his 3-hit mechanism, PotO will be more reliable on Offense than Defense. But that goes for all 3-hitters.

With this much power to hand, Phantom of the Opera’s gonna be great across the game. And he’s capable of playing the most significant part in any raid.

As for Passives, we have +5% Buff across the range for 1 Opera Family Hero and +10% for 2. Increasing his Stats yet further.

And he also heals when a Status Ailment expires or is cleared. So he’s gonna be sporadically healing himself throughout the battle.

Here, we have a Hero who hits at the very top end, who also has the capacity to shut down three Heroes in the opposing team. And on Offence, those three are likely to be the Tank and nearby enemies.

Although they can still fire off while under the influence of the Ballard of Obsession, they won’t be able to cast Status Effects or heal effectively. So that leaves Minions/Fiends or Hitting (-what a reduction in options).

Taking a quick look at the Top 10 Global Defense Teams, the following Heroes will all complain about the Phantom’s musky cologne:

Phantom of the Opera is a fantastic Hero who’ll be punching a hole through a Defense near you soon.

Hero Grade for Phantom of the Opera (Empires and Puzzles)

So for my grading, the question is:

Is this hero’s Special capable of/likely to change the outcome of a battle? Yes.

If not, do they still bring enough to the party to help defeat the deities? N/a.

    1. I’m assuming that the wording on Gazelle’s card applies here, although I haven’t tested it:

“Removes all status effects from all allies except the caster, removes even status effects that are otherwise undispellable or uncleansable”.

Again, haven’t tested this but going by the words on the card she should be able to cleanse her allies.

  1. Hi OC. Close the doors, the monsters are coming.
Did you pull? I was saving gems, but the promise was too good and I got tempted.

        1. Let’s imagine I did, and I started to pull all these new monsters…

It would completely change my reviews and we can’t have that! I review these Heroes like my best Hero is Devana, and that’s very nearly the case! 😁

I love this game but hate the pull rate for top end Heroes. It burns me when I don’t get the one I want so I don’t try. Everybody’s happy in the end that way!

          1. The last thing I want is your unhappiness.
            Great decision, OC

And yes, the odds of this game are… not good

      1. I can only hope… but lately my luck has been so bad. I’ve been getting nothing but the classic 5* or old dupes. I used up all my gems on this portal not even aiming for the two featured heroes but instead hoping for one of the two lunar new year heroes but got like the 3rd Sobek.

  2. Very strong hero. Maybe too strong?
But again, it is something they “have” to do considering the situation.
Jove was the last superpower released prior to when his event comes around, and will likely have been in the game about 8-9 months before his event.
Considering the speed of the power creep, these guys “have to” be super strong to not be outdated when they are released “for real”. On the other hand, they could just buff them later, like they did with Jove.

Interesting mechanic. Will mostly ensure three dead if able to fire before Hathor/Aramis get their ailment immunity up. We will probably see a lot of those two opera heroes in the top teams. On the other hand, there are already so many strong heroes there that it’s hard to break in.

Always interesting to read your posts!

    1. Hey Tobov, that all makes sense but it’s still stunning to see how the future compares to the recent past.

As you allude to, there are so many super strong heroes today; no longer a select few, that the options at the highest level are pretty wide. Only to get wider over the come months.

      As always, thanks for reading!

  3. Ah yes, yet another tippy top hero that I will never pull. It’s fine, the pretty pictures are always nice to look at!
    Sad Face Emoji 😔
