Image of Bai Yeong's Card and Details with 20 Emblems

Bai Yeong was an Empires and Puzzles Hero Of The Month last September. I pulled him shortly after and was initially confused about what I had.

Was he any good? My first response was, no. But since then, he’s become the #1 pick on my Raid Team. Bai Yeong, while once underrated, was clearly a gem -and here’s why…

Is Bai Yeong worth Levelling? (Empires and Puzzles)

100%

Sometimes, raiding can feel like a game of chess, as you strategize to manage the Defence Heroes from firing off and decimating your entire team. With every new season and every new HotM, Heroes are becoming more and more powerful. But Bai Yeong can help; he can stop the opposition from firing their Special skills.

In this game of chess, Bai Yeong is a master.

If you could stop Odin, or Frigg from hitting, would you? What about making Elizabeth miss your entire team, with her jumping sticky spiders?

Of course! And, Bai Yeong, with his -75% accuracy on targeted enemies, will achieve it most of the time.

Bai Yeong will also perform a few more tricks, but his main reason for being is his -75% accuracy. The rest is just a bonus (and what a nice little bonus the element link is (+30% defence against Special Skills for 4 turns).

Finally, Bai Yeong will work very well with Malosi by his side. While Bai Yeong is managing the hitters, Malosi can be managing the ailment casters, and buffers. And that’s exactly what I do with my raid team. Here’s my team for reference, left to right:

How to play Bai Yeong

Here’s a recent Raid involving Bai Yeong:

There’s one important thing to note about Bai Yeong’s main Special skill (his -75% accuracy): it only lasts for 2 turns. And 2 turns will come and go before you know it.

That’s why you must have a plan for who you’re targeting, before using it. You have to consider, 1. Are they about to fire off? If not, 2. Can you plummet enough tiles into them, so that they do?

Remember, the goal is to get the target to miss their next turn; to miss your team with their Special.

It also helps that Bai Yeong has FAST mana, so he can keep knocking heads if you can keep gathering tiles.

Bai Yeong, 2020 Empires and Puzzles Hero Of The Month

My final thoughts:

I’ve been playing with Bai Yeong on my Raid team for +4 months. He gets his own changing room at events, an appearance bonus, and a cut of any profits. -His spot is safe for a long time to come.

That said, I wouldn’t dream of putting him on my Defence team because a human could easily manage his Special skill. Also, he doesn’t do enough damage to be impactful otherwise.

Bai Yeong is unique in that he is a top-tier Raid Hero, but one of the worst 5* Defence Heroes. But he doesn’t mind, because he’s all about the bright lights of centre stage.

  1. I just pulled Bai but I don’t have Devana or Joon. I do have Leonidas at 3.70 and I got Kara a fee days ago. Should I level Bai even though I have taunt now? … also should I max Leonidas or wait for Joon out of TC20/HA?

    1. Hi Joanne, firstly Bai Yeong occupies my bench a lot more nowadays, but he still enjoys the bright lights on War days. I prefer him to Joon. He’s still useful as an effective option against a big hitter, but how valuable he is, is dependent on your play style & roster. He might also be useful to cover before the taunt comes on line?

I used to hold his charge for the right moment, rather than let him swing away.

He’s not the biggest hitter and if there’s a chance of getting better, then I’d hold on. If you’re F2P with nothing cool on the horizon, then Bai Yeong’s a fun catch. I can’t tell you whether to use your mats, that’s for you to decide, but I can tell you I still like Bai Yeong!

      1. Thanks for the advice! I am in no rush as my yellow team is non existent, lol…I’ll wait a bit, just don’t have the heros for him to support yet.
