Green Knight and the Power of New Life (Empires & Puzzles)

Green Knight Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Green Knight is fronting this edition of Empires and Puzzles’ Challenge Festival, and even though I’m working on a blockbuster post in the background, I paused to focus on him today.

Why?

‘Cause his Special could be a nightmare to manage. But I’ll get to that!

First tho, please share a link to this post if you can and don’t forget, for all 5-Star LB2/Aether Powers, see here!

This post may contain speculation, personal opinion, and adult comedy. It is not advice and is solely for entertainment and informational purposes.

Is Green Knight Worth Levelling? (Empires and Puzzles)

I’ve been gone for way too long! Loads has happened since my last post;

  • I raged-quit NBA2K (REC!) and took up COD instead
  • UK inflation is now running at +10% (food at 19%!), so they’re talking bout raising interest rates to 4.5%
  • I discovered the term “NPC” after watching a TikToker (on Reddit) call some innocent folk NPCs (Also note, “Main Character”)
  • And things are going from bad to worse in my current read, The Kite Runner (don’t tell me)
  • Oh, and in E&P, Costume Fenrir was hoping to slide by unnoticed with his 700% slap!

But today, I had to take a moment for Green Knight coz while not overly complex, he has fantastic potential:

  • A nice -24% defence for 3 turns
  • The 235% to all enemies (needs a table to quantify)
  • Then, the magnum opus, defying the very promise of life itself
  • All at an Average speed

And the fire he brings back from hell will Mortally Wound all of his foes.

This mechanism deploys such devastating force…

Earlier today, I put my chin out and let Klaern take a free hit (240% damage to all with 762 Atk) and he did between 371 to 462 damage across the board. Meaning the Green Knight’s 665 revive damage could near double his own normal 235% hit.

(Note: In Beta he did 710 damage on rebirth, Vs the 665 he does now)

Green Knight Vs the Rest (Empires and Puzzles)

Alright, let’s get the first part of the damage outta the way. How does Green Knight compare to the other Average Hitters?

HeroMana SpeedDamageAtkStatus Buff Control
Green KnightAverage (10 tiles)Deals 235% damage to all867All enemies get -24% defense, and later, if you kill him, he loses it
ArchieFast (8 tiles)Deals 250% damage to all848All enemies are immune to new Status Effect buffs for 4 turns. Attempted buffs replaced with 150 damage
Costumed Guardian PantherFast (8 tiles)Deals 285% damage to all804All enemies are immune to new Status Effect buffs for 3 turns, and get -34% defense against Dark
AnneFast (8 tiles)Deals 550% damage to target and hits others819If hit enemies use their Special Skills in the next 4 turns, they get -34% attack, -34% defense, and -24% mana generation for 4 turns

Green Knight’s First Strike…

It’s worth noting that Green Knight is inflicting his -24% defense on all enemies before he gets to slicing and dicing.

I’m sure someone out there can do the numbers on how that would impact this table, but not me!

Louhi offers a good comparison for the hit coz she’s Average, too and also inflicts -24% defense. However, she inflicts the -defense after her hit. Still, she has that handy Dispel before!

Louhi Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

There are a few other Average Hitters I’m missing, but on the whole Average speed seems to be good for 250% to 300% (to all).

So, based on what we see here, Green Knight looks slightly underpowered with his 235%, but that’s probably made up with the -24% defense.

Green Knight, Rebirth and Synergy (Empires and Puzzles)

I’m guessing we’re all thinking Tank, right?

It’s Defense where Green Knight will really shine, mainly because you can force the issue by making him Tank or dual Tank.

The real key to Green Knight’s value is his speed: Average. Everything’s predicated on getting some decent Troops on him and him firing off. Coz, once he goes, the problems will quickly mount up, especially when facing elite teams.

We recently got Set who has a similar setup, but instead of dealing 665 damage on defeat, he reduces the Mana of all enemies by -100%. Oh, and he doesn’t come back.

Sadly (for him), even at Slow, his death threat only lasts for 3 turns and isn’t as devastating. Today, I tested him in a few Raids and as expected, he wasn’t inspiring.

That said, Green Knight’s gonna be sitting in front of you for 5 long turns, begging to be put out of his misery. Begging to be reborn. -All the while charging himself again.

In my view, he could paralyze and hamstring the opposition, causing indecision as he changes the flow and nature of the battle.

Imagine this:

  • Green Knight has fired off and now promises pain if killed
  • So instead of trying to off him, you hold back, maybe waiting to Dispel him
  • Meanwhile, his co-Tank is Fast and fixing to heal him, and the Taunter behind is fixing to protect him

Worse still, imagine he fires, and Ludwig or another Taunter has been LB2 and is already protecting him for 4 turns at the beginning of battle.

Worse’r still’er, imagine you actually kill the Green Knight once he’s all lit up.

And on offence, Green Knight will be able to have the final word most of the time.

The great thing about Green Knight is that this threat of revival lasts 5 whole turns. -It makes it much more likely to impact the battle.

Forcing most of us to take a Dispeller along or a Malosi type.

And all of this concerns Normal gaming, not Rush…

Green Knight (Empires and Puzzles)

My final thoughts:

The fact is, Green Knight isn’t gonna win battles on the strength of the first part of his Special alone.

However, the resurrection with 40% health, a clearout of all allergies, and 665 damage to all conspiring parties will be a constant threat once he triggers.

-It may prove to be the most significant part of a battle. If he fires, you lose, if he fails, you win. And at Average Speed, I suspect on many occasions, he’ll get away.

Of course, that’s dependent on your Raid Squad and his co-workers.

But overall, he has great potential to be a major annoyance.

His Aether Power is +20% Attack up for 6 turns, and his Talent is yet more self-preservation:

  • Revive ~ +30% chance to revive with 1 HP after a fatal attack. The revive is applied at the end of the turn.

I’m a huge fan of synergy loops, and Green Knight looks prime for aggravating the masses.

Thankfully, he has a few manageable weaknesses:

  • He may not fire in the first place (a universal Hero weakness, mind)
  • A Malosi type
  • Dispel
  • He doesn’t heal himself or protect himself against Status Effects
  • and oh yea, Kravekrush

I’m not claiming that Green Knight is the most powerful Hero in the game, just a very good one.

With Defense, Raiding, and Rush in mind, I’m happy to call him a T2, for what it’s worth!

Hero Grade for Green Knight (Empires and Puzzles)

So for my grading, the question is:

Is this hero’s Special capable of/likely to change the outcome of a battle? Yes.

If not, do they still bring enough to the party to help defeat the deities? N/a.

  1. I wanted him and even spent a little to chase him but he doesn’t like me. So maybe I’ll just admire him from afar or plan of a revenge to break him.

Defense down first then damage second must be devastating. And then the likes of Milena or even Quintus hitting next may mean the defending team are left all bruised if not all dead. At average speed plus revive special is just admirable.

  2. I just pulled him and it looks like he’s already nerfed.
    Average speed
All enemies -10% def 3 turns
If caster dies during 5 turns rez with 33% and 420 damage dealt all enemies
All status effects/stacks removed when caster dies.

  3. I’m seriously thinking of leveling a second mad hatter for wars with more of this type of heroes to go against.

  4. one thing Im pondering about, does counter attack work against conditionally triggered static attack such as his, queen guowang, gulli, etc. I probably should find a gulli to test against, but never thought to until now 😆

    1. Counterattack doesn’t work against Gullinbursti, at least not mine! But I didn’t test counterattack with Green Knight so it will need confirming. Thanks for sharing!

  5. I wanted to leave this comment on green knight, although you closed the post. Grren knight is atmos with and extra bit. I didn’t see your comparison between these heroes

    1. Thank you, I’ve moved the comment across. I get so much bot spam which is why I close the comments after a month but I will look into what solutions are available. Thanks again for the comparison.
