Slayers of Fell Shadows – Empires and Puzzles (Updated)

Slayers of Fell Shadows Empires and Puzzles Poster

Slayers of Fell Shadows is an old Empires and Puzzles Challenge Event whose Heroes have now been added to the larger, Challange Festival II.

A year after its initial release, and at your behest, I’m taking another look at Hero Grades. Are the Slayers still worthy today?

I won’t be able to write full reviews again, however, I will add a ‘1 Year On Update Note’, just before the Hero Grade.

For the record, this update took place on the 11th of August 2022.

I will leave the previous Event rules in place because who knows? It might go solo again.

Before we start, please consider sharing a link to this post with your alliance or on social media. It really does help.

Slayers of Fell Shadows Gameplay Rules

  • Slayers Family Heroes receive a bonus while playing in the Slayers of Fell Shadows event; they enjoy increased attack, bypass Elemental Barriers, and receive a +20% increase in Health.
  • In this event, your actions can enrage the enemy, with their Rage (and damage) increasing every time you use a Special skill or a Battle Item.
  • When their Rage is increased to the maximum rate, they’ll receive -50% damage, Battle Items deal -50% damage, and all status ailments on the enemy are cleansed at the beginning of their turn.
  • Enemy Rage will be reduced if you do not use any Special skills or Battle Items during your turn.
  • At the Summons portal, Challenge Event Coins will be used for Slayers of Fell Shadows.
  • Finally, there are 10 stages of difficulty and enemies reflect blue (Ice).

Slayers Family Bonus Explained

Mana note: All Slayers take 11 tiles to charge. For reference, Slow mana speed = 12 tiles.

The Slayers of Fell Family Bonus looks to be very impressive if a little complex.

The chance of receiving the Family bonus is based upon the number of Slayers Family Heroes in the line-up. One Hero has a 50% chance, two Heroes have 75% chance, and 3 Heroes have 100% chance of receiving the Family bonus.

The main takeaway is, Slayer Family Heroes gain significant HP and increased mana generation at the end of each turn. And, it Stacks (Max x10). Here’s what it looks like for three 5-Star Heroes on the same team:

  • 100% chance to gain +5% mana generation (a Max of 10 = +50% after 10 turns (At which point, your Heroes will have a FAST mana speed))
  • 100% chance to gain +10 HP each turn (a Max of 10 = +300 HP (depending on the Hero)

You do not need to cast a Special skill for this to occur, it’s innate.

Finally, 5-Star, and 4-Star, Heroes receive 10 HP and 5% mana respectively, while a 3-Star Slayer Hero only receives 5 HP and 5% mana generation.

There is a way to stop all this ridiculous buffing and stacking, and that’s to have one of your Heroes remove the stack. However, there aren’t (currently) many who can. Lepiota is one Hero I can think of.

Basically, while all Slayers Family Heroes are slightly faster than SLOW (‘Slayer Speed’ -11 tiles) to start with, it will change rapidly. So, they will get harder and harder to kill, as the battle rages on.

Next up -The Heroes! I’ll keep my initial thoughts brief on the Rare and Epic, but provide more on the Legendary Heroes.

All 5 Star Slayers of Fell Shadows Heroes

There are five, 5-Star (Legendary) Heroes, in the Slayers of Fell Shadows Family:

Caitlin (Slayers of Fell Shadows)

Image with the name Caitlin from Empires and Puzzles Clash Of Knights

Element: Holy (Yellow)

Class: Wizard

Mana Speed: Slayers – 11 tiles (Slayers’ Family Bonus)

Special Skills: 1) Dispels buffs from all enemies. 2) Deals 180% damage to all enemies. 3) Deals additional 20% damage per removed status effect, up to 340% damage in total. 4) Stack (Max 10): The caster gets +5% mana generation. Stack +2 (Max 10): The caster gets 20 HP each turn.

Passive: STATUS AILMENT DAMAGE REDUCTION ~ Damage caused by status ailments reduced by -50%.

Talent: JINX ~ +25% chance to deal +15% extra damage per each active buff the enemies have. The extra damage applies to both normal attacks and Special Skills.

INITIAL THOUGHTS: I wanted to start with my favourite New Slayers of Fell Shadows Hero: Caitlin.

Caitlin is a beast, and I think she’s here to shake up Empires and Puzzles. If you consider the current crop of elite defensive Heroes, you’ll no doubt think about Heroes who buff their entire team in one way or the other. Sif is a great example of this, but so is Odin who, let’s not forget, buffs his team with up to 28% mana generation.

Caitlin will dispel all enemy buffs, before hitting them all with 180% damage. If she does dispel buffs, then the damage percentage will increase with each buff removed. Maxing at 340% total damage.

Caitlin’s Special skill could easily shift the balance in any battle, and we haven’t even thought about her Family mana bonus (explained above). With it, her potential is crazy.

Imagine this: You’re playing a Raid against a top team and Sif has already buffed her team, but then Caitlin’s mana becomes fully charged.

She fires her Special, stripping the enemy first, before whacking ’em one by one. Now, you’re already 8 turns deep into the battle, and Caitlin is turning into a FAST speed Hero. Quickly, she is fully charged again and is ready to go. But you hold back, daring the enemy to buff something.

In short, Caitlin has the potential to lord it over the entire field. And remember, we’re only talking about her … not the other four 5 star Heroes you took in with you (potentially including two other Heroes from this list -to ensure the 100% chance of the Slayers’ Family Bonus).

Recently, we’ve enjoyed the introduction of a number of Heroes designed to help us defeat Sif, Odin, Krampus, and the gang -Heroes like Devana and Chakkoszrot. And Caitlin may prove more popular than them both.

1 Year On Update Notes: Wow, I was sooo polite when I first started writing E&P!

Caitlin is still relevant today; Dispelling Buffs from all enemies before a decent slap is epic stuff.

Problem is, the baseline of 180% isn’t what it was and at Slow, getting that first hit is gonna take a little patience.

This is a tough one, to read your own reasoning a year later and attempt to apply new knowledge and experience to it.

In honesty, as much as I still love Caitin, she’s not causing enough damage for the time it’s taking her to get there. Not in today’s game.

It’s her top-end potential that saves her from Warrior.

Old Cynic’s Hero Grade: Archangel

(Want more Caitlin? Find her full review here.)

Rian (Slayers of Fell Shadows)

Image with the name Rian

Element: Ice (Blue)

Class: Sorcerer

Mana Speed: Slayers – 11 tiles (Slayers’ Family Bonus)

Special Skills: 1) Cleanses status ailments from all allies.

Talent: DELAY ~ +15% chance to drop the mana generation of the enemy by -50% for 2 turns after dealing damage. The effect is applied at the end of the turn.

INITIAL THOUGHTS: Rian has the same Special as Caitlin, the only difference being that instead of dispelling enemy buffs, Rian Cleanses ailments from all allies. And the damage dealt, is based upon how many ailments he removes.

Rian is clearly designed to partner with Caitlin, in providing damage to all enemies, while dispelling buffs and ailments to the entire field.

Rian is a monster and I’d have no problem whatsoever, in taking him into battle with Caitlin to get that 100% Family bonus.

That said, I think dispelling enemy buffs, better serves an offensive Hero, as they can dispel Counterattack before striking themselves.

1 Year On Update Notes: I’m gonna drop Rian down to Warrior. I do prefer Caitlin of the two, as enemy buffs are just more likely and controllable than ally ailments.

Damage isn’t great and even if he does go off at 300%, it’s not crazy damage when compared with the current crop of top-end hitters.

Both are still very useable, but if you’re trying to keep up with the Joneses, he’s not the one.

Old Cynic’s Hero Grade: Warrior

Cathal (Empires and Puzzles)

Image with the name Cathal

Element: Ice (Blue)

Class: Barbarian

Mana Speed: Slayers – 11 tiles (Slayers’ Family Bonus)

Special Skills: 1) Deals 570% damage to the target. 2) The attack has a 60% chance to bypass defensive buffs. This includes counterattacks. 3) Stack (Max 10): The caster gets +10% mana generation. Stack +2 (Max 10): The caster gets 10 HP each turn.

Passive: STATUS AILMENT DAMAGE REDUCTION ~ Damage caused by status ailments reduced by -50%.

Talent: WOUND ~ +30% chance to apply bleeding from any normal attack.

INITIAL THOUGHTS: Cathal is a straight-down-the-line, Sniper. 570% will defiantly hurt. As a point of reference, Lianna hits for 512%.

I also like the 60% bypass, but it must be said: I’m not a huge fan of Snipers in general.

I think a Hero needs to be a Master of many things to be useful in this game. So, for that reason alone, it’s hard to get too excited about Cathal.

On top of that, Cathal is near SLOW. A SLOW Sniper?

1 Year On Update Notes: No, I’m not a sniper fan at the best of times and nothing’s changed my mind here.

He will hurt when he finally fires off. Just like a door will hurt, if you run your toe into it.

Note the increased Mana Stack tho (10%). Anyway, downgraded by 1.

Old Cynic’s Hero Grade: Meek

Saoirse (Slayers of Fell Shadows)

Image with the name Saoirse from Empires and Puzzles Clash Of Knights

Element: Fire (Red)

Class: Fighter

Mana Speed: Slayers – 11 tiles (Slayers’ Family Bonus)

Special Skills: 1) Deals 315% damage to the target and nearby enemies. 2) The target and nearby enemies get -54% defense for 3 turns. 3) Stack (Max 10): The caster gets +10% mana generation. Stack +2 (Max 10): The caster gets 10 HP each turn.

Passive: STATUS AILMENT DAMAGE REDUCTION ~ Damage caused by status ailments reduced by -50%.

Talent: Revive ~ +30% chance to revive with 1 HP after a fatal attack. The revive is applied at the end of the turn.

INITIAL THOUGHTS: Wow, Saoirse is powerful, but if it wasn’t for that Family Bonus, I wouldn’t be as impressed.

If I had to pick three 5 star Heroes from the Slayers’ collection, it would be Caitlin, Saoirse and Senan.

Waiting on the first mana charge might be frustrating, but soon enough these three would be FAST. And the combo of Dispel/Damage-all (Caitlin), followed by 315% Damage/Defense-down (Saoirse), ending with Damage-all/Summons-fiend (Senan), should be enough to subdue any enemy team.

However, without the Family bonus, Saoirse might not appear so mighty.

1 Year On Update Notes: I really like Saoirse a year on. That’s a solid hit to three enemies (315%) and the Defense-Down could be game-changing.

And she has the quicker Mana Stack (10%), too…

She should have been a Deity first time around. As of today? It’s the balancing of Speed Vs Reward. Her value will increase if she fires off and can get that Mana Stack going.

She is a very solid, near-top Archangel for me, a whole year on. I regret not calling her Deity when she first emerged back in the day!

No change in grade.

Old Cynic’s Hero Grade: Archangel

Senan (Slayers of Fell Shadows)

Image with the name Senan

Element: Dark (Purple)

Class: Sorcerer

Mana Speed: Slayers – 11 tiles (Slayers’ Family Bonus)

Special Skills: 1) Deals 275% damage to all enemies. 2) Summons a Spectre Fiend for all enemies. The Fiend damages the enemy with 45% attack every turn. 3) The Spectre Fiend absorbs healing and disappears when it has absorbed health equal to 30% of its target’s max health. 4) Stack (Max 10): The caster gets +5% mana generation. Stack +2 (Max 10): The caster gets 20 HP each turn.

Passive: STATUS AILMENT DAMAGE REDUCTION ~ Damage caused by status ailments reduced by -50%.

Talent: DELAY ~ +15% chance to drop the mana generation of the enemy by -50% for 2 turns after dealing damage. The effect is applied at the end of the turn.

INITIAL THOUGHTS: As mentioned above, Senan is an awesome Hero. And I actually think he’d be useful without the Family bonus; 275% to all enemies, plus a Fiend for all enemies, seems good and strong.

Those Fiends are so annoying and difficult to get rid of! And for that reason, I make Senan my second favourite Hero from Slayers of Fell Shadows. Here’s how I rate the 5-Star Heroes from Slayers:

  1. Caitlin
  2. Senan
  3. Saoirse
  4. Rian
  5. Cathal

1 Year On Update Notes: I’m gonna leave Senan as a Deity. In my view, he’s barely holding onto the grade at this point.

A quick look at Viscaro (the very decent HotM), and some of the new Three Kingdoms Heroes, leaves me thinking that Senan is close to dropping out of contention. For now, I’m happy for him to remain a Deity.

All 4 Star Slayers of Fell Shadows Heroes

There are three, 4-Star (Epic) Heroes, in the Slayers of Fell Shadows Family:

Orla (Empires & Puzzles)

Image with the name Orla from Empires and Puzzles Clash Of Knights

Element: Nature (Green)

Class: Ranger

Mana Speed: Slayers – 11 tiles (Slayers’ Family Bonus)

Special Skills: 1) Deals 230% damage to the target. 2) Deals 460% damage if the target has less than 50% health remaining. 3) The target and nearby enemies get -24% mana generation for 3 turns. 4) Stack (Max 10): The caster gets +10% mana generation. Stack +2 (Max 10): The caster gets 10 HP each turn.

Passive: STATUS AILMENT DAMAGE REDUCTION ~ Damage caused by status ailments reduced by -50%.

Talent: PIERCE ~ +25% chance to bypass defensive buffs when attacking. This includes counterattacks.

INITIAL THOUGHTS: Orla is a great 4-Star Sniper with an additional bonus of -24% mana generation for the victim, and their nearby buddies.

Orla looks useful for Titans and maybe the odd Quest.

1 Year On Update Notes: Orla didn’t get a Hero Grade before. I’ll attach one now.

Nothing special here. Her basic use will be Tournaments and there’s nothing above which makes her look like a star to me.

Old Cynic’s Hero Grade: Warrior

Cillian (Empires and Puzzles)

Image with the name Cillian

Element: Fire (Red)

Class: Fighter

Mana Speed: Slayers – 11 tiles (Slayers’ Family Bonus)

Special Skills: 1) Deals 315% damage to the target and nearby enemies. 2) If the caster dies during the next 4 turns they are resurrected at the beginning of their turn with 27% health. All status effects are removed when the caster dies. 3) Stack (Max 10): The caster gets +5% mana generation. Stack +2 (Max 10): The caster gets 20 HP each turn.

Passive: STATUS AILMENT DAMAGE REDUCTION ~ Damage caused by status ailments reduced by -50%.

Talent: Revive ~ +30% chance to revive with 1 HP after a fatal attack. The revive is applied at the end of the turn.

INITIAL THOUGHTS: I wouldn’t mind pulling Cillian. His Special skill is powerful, and I love the resurrection with 27% health.

I imagine a 4-Star Hero like this could really help a mid-tier player for months! And, Cillian would be frustrating to face.

-Maybe ideal for Wars.

1 Year On Update Notes: Cillian didn’t get a Hero Grade before. I’ll attach one now.

A very good hitter, albeit, Slow (first time round). Of course, amazing for Rush Tournaments, but also useful at Standard speeds.

Deffo worth the punt with that huge payoff.

Old Cynic’s Hero Grade: Archangel

Aodhan (Slayers of Fell Shadows)

Image with the name Aodhan from Empires and Puzzles Clash Of Knights

Element: Fire (Red)

Class: Wizard

Mana Speed: Slayers – 11 tiles (Slayers’ Family Bonus)

Special Skills: 1) Deals 210% damage to all enemies. 2) Summons a Wisp Fiend for all enemies. The Fiend damages the enemy with 35% attack every turn. 3) The Wisp Fiend absorbs healing and disappears when it has absorbed health equal to 18% of its target’s max health. 3) Stack (Max 10): The caster gets +10% mana generation. Stack +2 (Max 10): The caster gets 10 HP each turn.

Passive: STATUS AILMENT DAMAGE REDUCTION ~ Damage caused by status ailments reduced by -50%.

Talent: JINX ~ +25% chance to deal +15% extra damage per each active buff the enemies have. The extra damage applies to both normal attacks and Special Skills.

INITIAL THOUGHTS: Bearing in mind that all of these Heroes are SLOW speed, it is striking how powerful some are, compared to others.

Aodhan is a 4-Star wreaking machine. He will damage all enemies for 210%, before dropping a Fiend into their laps. I hate getting Fiends, but do love giving them (just like gifts).

Aodhan would be great for Wars, Quests, and maybe (if you don’t have anything better), Raids.

1 Year On Update Notes: Aodhan didn’t get a Hero Grade before. I’ll attach one now.

Slow 4-Star Heroes ain’t great. We always go back to the old, ‘Rush Tournements’ argument.

And that’s the case here as well.

Aodhan is a beefy Epic Hero who offers a lot, even if the wait gets a little irritating. But again, there is a very nice payoff down the line.

All 3 Star Slayers of Fell Shadows Heroes

There are two, 3-Star (Rare) Heroes, in the Slayers of Fell Shadows Family:

Noril (Slayers of Fell Shadows)

Image with the name Noril

Element: Nature (Green)

Class: Barbarian

Mana Speed: Slayers – 11 tiles (Slayers’ Family Bonus)

Special Skills: 1) Deals 240% damage to the target. 2) Deals 390% damage to a random different enemy. Deals extra damage if the target is Ice. 3) Stack (Max 10): The caster gets +5% mana generation. Stack +2 (Max 10): The caster gets 5 HP each turn.

Passive: STATUS AILMENT DAMAGE REDUCTION ~ Damage caused by status ailments reduced by -50%.

Talent: WOUND ~ +30% chance to apply bleeding from any normal attack.

INITIAL THOUGHTS: I like Noril. He looks similar to Bjorn; with his second random attack. And at 390%, it really does pack a punch. For reference, Bjorn deals 200% for his first hit and, 350% for his second. So, Noril is more powerful in that regard.

If I pulled Noril, I’d probably keep and level him.

1 Year On Update Notes: Noril didn’t get a Hero Grade before. I’ll attach one now.

We all know Bjorn so well, and Noril is more powerful (although, Costume Bjorn is now flexing 180% by 380%, plus a -24% Mana thingy).

At Slow?

Of course, we normally see Noril in Rush Tourneys where he looks fantastic, but outside of those, he’s not the same Cat.

Old Cynic’s Hero Grade: Warrior

He’s an Archangel when employed for his services in Rush Tournaments.

Maeve (Empires and Puzzles)

Image with the name Maeve from Empires and Puzzles Clash Of Knights

Element: Dark (Purple)

Class: Rogue

Mana Speed: Slayers – 11 tiles (Slayers’ Family Bonus)

Special Skills: 1) Deals 260% damage to the target and nearby enemies. 2) The target and nearby enemies get -44% defense for 3 turns. 3) Stack (Max 10): The caster gets +5% mana generation. Stack +2 (Max 10): The caster gets 5 HP each turn.

Passive: STATUS AILMENT DAMAGE REDUCTION ~ Damage caused by status ailments reduced by -50%.

Talent: EVADE ~ +20% chance to dodge direct damage from offensive Special skills.

INITIAL THOUGHTS: Maeve looks like a really solid 3-Star Hero, too. 260% to the target AND nearby, is nice. But I especially like the -44% defense down that goes along with it. Maeve could make a lot of difference in a 3-Star battle.

Of the two 3 star Heroes in Slayers of Fell Shadows, Maeve would be my favourite. However, they’re both good.

1 Year On Update Notes: Maeve didn’t get a Hero Grade before. I’ll attach one now.

Maeve is in my countdown of the Best 3 Star Heroes in Empires and Puzzles.

She’s top-drawer and offers a fantastic payoff for her inconvenient wait time.

  1. This is a nice and thorough breakdown with a lot of helpful ways to look at these heroes! Fingers crossed for a Caitlin and/or Senan!

  2. I have maxed Aodhan and love him. He really is a powerhouse on attack and the fiend is great. I have the ability to limit break him. Any thoughts on using Aether on him?

    1. Hi Alessa, I like Aodhan a lot, as seen above. He looks awesome for a 4 star hero, but sadly I don’t have him.

Personally, I’ve been Limit Breaking my 3 and 4 star heroes, because it’s easier to get the Aether for them. If I had Aodhan, he would be high on the list to get the upgrade, but of course it depends on what you have on your roster. For me the question is: Where else are you going to use the Aether? If there’s nowhere better, and you actually use Aodhan, then why not?

I hope that helps – I do think Aodhan is deffo worth it, but you might have a 5 star hero who you’re also saving up for, in which case the 5 star should normally take priority.

      Thanks for stopping by.

      1. Thank you for the quick reply! I have not used any of my fire Aether yet so I’m thinking I’ll use it on him and Elizabeth. Appreciate the advice and your site – super helpful. Thanks again!

  3. Hi! I really like your blog. Hope you can write more reviews about new heroes.

Recently I got Saoirse, but I’m not sure I should give her ring to max level. Concern is slow mana. I noticed that although I only got her in slayer family, her 50% chance to receive stack still able to improve her mana generation. Can you give any suggestions? Thanks!

    1. Hello Nic, I think the answer to your question depends on the sort of player you are: If you have other top-notch heroes because you regularly pull, -the likes of Garnet (Ninja Family), or Elizabeth (S4). If you do, then it’s a matter of weighing up who’s the best of the bunch, and also finding out, what you need for your team.

In my opinion, Saoirse is worth the final Mats based on her core-skills, 50% Slayers mana bonus, and her individual mana bonus. And looking at the SG forum, I see that 54% of voters agree.

A simple comparison would be Isarnia – A 5 star SLOW mana hero. She hits all for 235% (Saoirse hits 3 for 315%). Isarnia inflicts Defense-down to all for -44% (Saoirse inflicts 3 for -54%). Isarnia may-well look like a costume version of Saoirse. However, I expect a significant difference in overall stats as Isarnia is S1, and Saoirse is a brand new Slayers.

The question is: Can you speed up Saoirse with Troops or other heroes; can you make Saoirse AVERAGE? If so, then she looks even better when compared with Isarnia.

In my review above, I talk about how she wouldn’t be as impressive without a Family of Slayers around her, and that is true. But she is still a very solid 5 star hero in her own right.

I can’t tell you who to give Mats to, but I hope this helps!

Oh, and if you haven’t already, please subscribe to the blog. Thanks.

    1. Hey Satish, there is one at the bottom of the Side-Bar. If you’re on mobile, that’s the bottom of the page. I’ve now added another to the Main Menu. Thanks!

  4. This is an old post but obv an ongoing topic. So, I hope you’ll eventually get to this question. Meanwhile I don’t have Caitlin so I can wait 😉

Does Caitlin’s debuff / dispel apply before or after her direct damage?

By comparison, Sonya and Caedmon damage THEN dispel.

When the target has a counterattack buff, that’s going to make a significant difference.

    Thanks!

Edit: OMG apologies. Shoulda checked the full review re Caitlin & counterattack.

Thank you very much for providing this information!

  5. I have all 4* Slayers, with red ones being broken. Orla awaits the green Omega this month and be broken too. Now I’m testing the team: Boldtusk with costume, broken, Orla, Aodhan, Cillian, Brynhild (also awaits being broken). So far I can defeat enemy some 600 pts above my level… Of course with moderate tiles (and i have 14 lvl mana troops). IMHO the Slayers are greatly underestimated, and possibly not many people have them, yet a 3-Slayers team is an unstoppable killing machine: red guys start, orla finishes kills… And so on…

    1. Hi Darth, I always figured it was down to 2 things: 1. Speed, and 2. they were the first of the new Wave of insane heroes.

I mean, after them came: Magic, Clash, Santa’s (Pengi/Costumes), New Ninja’s (Ruby), Challenge, and very soon, War of the Kingdoms. All designed to be stronger.

But the Stacks and synergy found in the Slayers is really nice.

The Magic lot just got powerful buffs yesterday… I figure as good as the Slayers are, they must be on the buffing list.

Anyway, thanks for reading my ramblings, and thanks for commenting!

  6. Brynhild and Orla already finished and broken – wonderful! In good circumstances they can beat an enemy with 4800+ strength…
Not sure how would Anton work after buffing, but I already have Anastasia finished, broken and with full set of symbols. And she’s crazy with grimoires – first she gives them to friends, then begins to throw them into enemies’ faces…

      1. I’ve already started testing the “Valhalla/Magic set”: Brynhild, Anton (9 talents, still unbroken – awaits for next series of Green Omega), Anastasia, Mist (fully talented and broken) & Griffin (same).
With average tiles they can wreak havoc among teams 400-500 pts higher, even if composed entirely of 5* cards.

  7. Hey dear friend.. Now few months in play.. Can you update this post as more data and experience has been father on slayers.. Please include new man speed named slayers. Which is I believe start with 11 tiles

    1. Hey Wolf, I saw the mana update and I will revise the stats.

I’m secretly expecting a buff for them -pure speculation based on other families. Anyway, I was kinda holding off ’til the portal comes around again to catch it all.

      Thanks for reading!

  8. Is there any news on when the Slayers event will return? It’s been forever since they appeared. Without the recent buff, I would’ve thought SG forgot about them.
    Thank you in advance!

    1. Hi Scott, there’s not much information that I can see, however, the entire family just got a mana buff…

I love the Slayers and I do expect them to reappear soon. And if I were a betting man, I’d expect them to be buffed as well, cuz looking back, some haven’t fared as well as others.

      I’m also watching this space!

  9. Here’s a question…I see many bloggers doing a breakdown and Op Ed pieces on the new heroes, but who is talking about how to place high in the tournament? Which heroes are the “must haves” to really compete and score in the top 5000? What are the maximum scores per level, which items are best to bring along? I think that would make for fantastic reading and discussion.

  10. Hey there. Here my question: I got extremely lucky and pulled Senan Saoirse Caitilin and Cathal. I am thinking about a defense team built around them, maybe supported by MN and/or Kalø. I would like to read your thoughts. Thanks!

    1. I still love this family, and the FB is worthy IMO. It’s the damage they output which leaves a little lacking. That said, I would personally love to have them and would try to create something around them. Time is a factor because levelling all those heroes is a long journey. But who knows, you might get lucky with a buff here or there?

In short, it’s an intriguing proposition, and as long as you’re not sitting on Hulda or some other OP hero, it sounds like a solid plan. As always, please also ask around and get more opinions! And thank you for visiting!

  11. Thank you so much for your content! I have really enjoyed all your coverage and look forward to be content! I really enjoy the look of the slayers. They are some
of my favorite designs. I am curious if there are any you would leave graded the way they are or would you lower them all by one? Thank you for all you do!

    1. Hello Matthew, sorry for the late reply. I was busy with my last post and forgot! I do like the Slayers but their damage is low compared to top end strikers. In fact, my most recent post about the Hardest Hitting heroes illustrates this point really well. I do like the Slayers mana system, but that first tier is a long wait for what you get. It might be responsible to move all ratings down one notch, but I’d have to review each one to be fair. And as I personally expect a buff coming, I don’t want to give myself double the work! Anyway, thanks for stopping by and reading my blog!

      1. Thank you! I thought your reply was rather speedy! I understand not wanting to do double for sure! I wonder though if they will buff since the last slayer event has came and past. I hope they do. I was lucky to get Caitlin and already had Senan and still utilize him, however I do agree that their damage is not the most impactful so I hope they either increase that a little more or just have slayer be average speed to start. Still there are fast and average heroes that hit harder. I love their designs and looking forward to the monster hunters that will be arriving eventually. Thank you and have a great day!

  12. Hello, informative and much appreciated reviews as always, truly value your time and insights in putting these together. With this being said, apologies, with Challenge Festival II now out, is it possible to update when you have the time the hero grades for the ones that are not shown currently having one, as I observed you had listed grades for some but not all? Several in our family of alliances (over 200+ members) now refer to your reviews and gradings (whatever you determine them to be as you always state convince you otherwise, and I’ve been told that’s refreshing to see), as I share them in our Line groups Thank you in advance for considering this and please keep up the truly great reviews. Please have a great day and a wonderful rest of your week.

  13. Hey Cynic,

I was surprised to see you maintain your Deity ranking for Senan even though he’s basically inferior in every way to Lu Bu, who you’ve got as Archangel. Are you seeing something I ain’t?

    DEFEND YOURSELF

    1. Hey Holodigm, no you’re probably not but thanks for giving me the chance!

OK, first some general defense 😜: The hero grades aren’t an exact science, they’re a broad indicator. Also, on some days I’m asked to value a bunch of heroes and like anything, things can get skewed. That said, I did say he barely holds on to that rating but in truth, I probably should have just gone ahead and dropped him to Archangel.

To your point: I’ve just checked Lu Bu and that was a nice buff he got which really makes this look skewed. When he was first released he hit for 295% (not much above Senan) and his Fiends were only 32% health (not a massive jump up from Senan). But Lu Bu never got a proper assessment after the buff because I’ve been so busy.

What I did here, was to reflect on the other Fiend heroes (who I probably overvalue coz I like them) and saw that they are still a rare bunch. They offer an unusual offence which is still somewhat uncommon, or more an afterthought. Esme will be a superstar one of these days! Also, he hits for 275% to all. Now, I know the new heroes coming through… the 6-Star heroes… are hitting that for Fast, but they’re rare as well and just coming through. As it stands, 275% is still something.

I mean, look at Khepri on Ave (275% to 3). Elizabeth on Ave (175% to all).

Of course, they all have a nice Special feature about them. With Lu Bu it’s the Immunity/Passive, with Khepri it’s the Bombs/Passive, and with Senan it’s the prospect of a lot more speed (Slayers FB). That might mean pushing out his benefits at Fast.

Now, all that said, I don’t disagree. He’s not what he was. If anything I feel we could do with 3 tiers per hero grade. Because he would become a low-tier Deity. But maybe he’s an Archangel and I’m just wrong, that’s fine too!

Also, I’m gonna go upgrade Lu Bu to Deity.

Thanks for the challenge Holodigm, right or wrong, it was fun. And that’s the entire point of this blog. If you want to argue him down to Archangel, I’m open to new input!

  14. First I wanna thank you a lot for your reviews and guides etc. They are very informative and fun to read.

How are these slayer mana speeds behaving in rush tournaments and fast wars?

I just got my last missing rings and wondering shoud I ascend Saoirse or Khagan with costume for fast action.

    1. Hi Kuuquna, I believe they all become Very Fast on the first Charge, but I can’t be absolutely sure as I never did get hold of a Slayer. But they should trigger and start Stacking. I’ve checked the forum and it states that they become VF there. Here’s a link.

Hope this helps and thanks for reading!

  15. Hi Oldcynic,
Got all the slayers but Cathal. All maxed except Senan and Saoirse who are next. Prefered heroe is Senan. Not to forget that once you align 3 different slayers, they become quickly VERY fast.
