How Good is Caitlin? Empires and Puzzles Slayers Review

Screenshot of Caitlin from Slayers event - Hero Empires and Puzzles

Caitlin is a new Legendary Hero from the Empires and Puzzles Event, Slayers of Fell Shadows. There are four other 5-Star Heroes in the event, but Caitlin is my pick of the bunch.

While some may discount Caitlin on account of her Slayers mana speed (11 tiles), others will want to test the potential of the Slayers Family bonus, for themselves.

Because that Family bonus is grade A, with a cherry on top.

Is Caitlin worth Levelling? (Slayers of Fell Shadows)

Yes.

It seems that nowadays everyone wants a god-like Hero. Someone capable of wiping out the entire enemy team with just 1 tile. And while Caitlin can’t quite manage that, she does do a very good Terminator impression.

I think Caitlin is ridiculous -Why?

  1. Caitlin dispels enemy buffs first, and that’s huge for a big hitter. Heroes like Frigg, Odin, Kadilen, Morel, Kilhare, and Chakkoszrot, are all subject to counterattack. Caitlin’s not.
  2. Caitlin’s Special skill is enhanced according to the number of buffs she dispels (up to 340%).
  3. Finally, if you have two other Slayer Heroes, Caitlin will slowly become a FAST mana Hero over 10 turns. -Also earning up to 200 HP per turn.

Caitlin looks like a superstar to me.

With Caitlin in your Raid squad, you don’t have to worry about strategy, micro-managing the defense (Bai Yeong), or timing your attack (Chakkoszrot), you can simply CHARGE & HIT … and REPEAT until the enemy team is scattered, bloodied, and defeated.

My final thoughts:

I’m obviously a big fan of Caitlin, but there’s something we haven’t really considered…

If you do pull Caitlin, how are you gonna get the other two 5-Star (or 4-Star) Slayer Heroes, to team up with her?

While Caitlin would be useful without the full Family bonus, she really shines with it.

For that reason, Caitlin and the Slayers Family could really separate those willing to do whatever it takes to get them, from those who pull one Hero, on a lucky spin.

  1. I’m not sure how I feel about these new heroes. I haven’t played the beta so I’ll have to see how they do once they are out this Thursday. Not that I’ll get any of course, given that I never manage to pull a 5-star… she does look strong, but 10 moves may be enough to beat her (before she becomes a fast hero)?

I’ll probably be playing more with the 3-stars. They look very, very strong and I’ll probably have them both in my 3-star tournament team.

    1. I agree on those 3 star heroes. Re. the Family bonus: I look forward to the 5th so I can publish whatever’s on the cards, because at the moment it’s not really clear how powerful that buff will be. Either way, I hope this review for Caitlin sets the stars in motion for me to get her… with my 3 spins! Thanks for your comment.

      1. Old Cynic, am I wrong here or will Caitlin actually become not only a VERY Fast hero, but she’ll also be reaching that speed TWICE as fast (half the turns) of all the other family members once she activates, AND she’ll be getting 3X the healing per turn as any of the other family members, because her special ability applies on top of her family
        bonus?

So, to break it down: mana-wise, she gets a 50-100% chance at a +5% per turn, up to 10stacks from the family bonus, but then gets an additional guaranteed +5% per turn from her ability. With 100% family bonus, it becomes +10% per turn!

Healing wise: she gets 50-100% chance at getting +20hp per turn, up to 10 stacks, from the family bonus, but then she gets an additional guaranteed +40hp per turn (Stack x2) up to 10 stacks. Combined, makes for 600hp per turn!

These should stack because they are slightly different in terms of their mechanics. One is a chance to occur, unless you have 3 family members on the team, and the other is that the healing buff is a multiple of 2 stacks per turn instead of one.

I don’t know if this was just an oversight of the devs, but if so, Caitlin is far greater than either of us ever thought before. What do you think?

        1. Hi Crowcaine, I wish I pulled her. As you can tell from the write-up, I think she’s the best of a strong bunch. Re. her speed, I updated my main Slayers post and noted that she, Rian and Senan receive +5% mana bonus from their own Special, whereas Saoirse and Cathal get +10%. So that would make them slightly faster? I did find this video, showing how the Slayers Family bonus stacked with the personal hero Special bonus.

Either way, these guys look great in the videos I’ve seen. If anything, I’m a little surprised I’m not seeing more of them in the top 100. I guess time will tell.

          Thanks for commenting!

          1. I think people were turned off by all of them being slow, especially at a time when everyone was after the most powerful fast heroes they could get. I don’t think they realize the potential of these heroes, should they be kept alive past the first few rounds. Just like Alfrike, once they get to activate, it’s a game changer, but unlike Alfrike, they get faster and tougher to kill the longer they survive. Keeping them alive would probably be part of the main strat. Maybe 3 family members, plus maybe Lady Woolerton as the fastest heal in the game, along with with Poseidon to negate the negative part of her ability as well as a decent sniper hit himself? I dunno, just trying to think of ways to keep them all alive early, cuz everyone is gonna know to target them first/get rid of them asap.

          2. You could also run 2 quick threats alongside, like Freya; a defensive annoyance, that will get these guys the 3-5 turns they need to become effective.

Definitely good problems to have, and solve.

  2. She’s on soul exchange. Hopefully this message can reach you before it ends. Are people forgetting about mana troops that can help her charge? How about the fact that on defense, they continue to gain mana each turn.
