Current Top 10 Empires & Puzzles Defense Heroes

On 21st November 2021, I reviewed the top 50 Empires and Puzzles Defense teams. Based on the data, here are the Top 10 E&P Defense heroes:

10. Octros

9. Prof. Lidenbrock

8. Krampus –

7. C.Kadilen ↓1

6. Hannah ↓1

5. Xnolphod

4. Odin ↓2

3. Morel –

2. Elizabeth ↓1

1. Frigg ↑3

Here’s last month’s list:

10. Cobalt 9. Killhare 8. Krampus 7. Bera 6. C.Kadilen 5. Hannah 4. Frigg 3. Morel 2. Odin 1. Elizabeth

Top Empires & Puzzles Defense heroes

It’s taken a bit of time, but Xnolphod has now been levelled by enough players to assume his rightful place near the top of the pile.

Interestingly, his presence has nudged Hannah and C.Kadilen down one spot each.

Although Frigg has regained the top spot, it remains close at the summit:

  • Frigg was in 22 teams
  • Elizabeth was in 19 teams
  • and, Morel was in 18 teams

Octros has now broken into the Top 10, and that’s no surprize if you’ve been Raiding.

And for the last time, I’ll cry out: Where, oh where, is our Beloved Sif?

She’s now 46th (down from 19th), -a nameless figure lost among the riff-raff, who themselves were only utilized once.

Of note, Quenell is in at #22 and Wolfgang is up at #12 (↑8).

What’s your view -Do you find this list useful?

Black Friday Summoning Event (Empires and Puzzles Mag)

News has just been released concerning the Black Friday Summoning Event.

Here’s what we have:

  • No Classic heroes (Season 1 heroes I assume) are in this portal
  • However, the portal does contain heroes from all past Events, all past HotM, all Atlantis/Valhalla/Underwild heroes, all Ninja Tower, all Magic Tower, and all Alliance Quest heroes
  • There’s a “Significantly improved chance to receive useful…” items including: Ascension Mats, Ethers, Trainer Heroes, and Food Bundles.
  • There are two new 5-Star heroes called Peñolite and Gaillard
  • No Costumes are included
  • Finally, every player will receive a Free gift!

The Black Friday Summoning Event is scheduled to run from 24th-29th November 2021.

Community Decides Event (Guardians of Teltoc)

If you didn’t know, last month over on the E&P forum, we were told that some Events would be retired, however, we’d get the chance to vote on a final outing for one of them.

Here’s how the voting ended:

48% – Guardians of Teltoc
25% – Knights of Avalon
11% – Riddles of Wonderland
11% – Pirates of Corellia
5% – Fables of Grimforest

Based on that, we can expect to see the final showing of Guardians of Teltoc from 25th-29th November 2021.

Note: While the Events will be retired, all associated Heroes will now be part of another Event called, Challenge Festival.

What are your thoughts?

Empires and Puzzles Challenge Festival

There’s a lot to like about the new Challenge Festival.

Highlights from the initial info are:

  • All of the heroes from the recently retired Events will be available at the portal
  • This will be the first portal ever, not to have Season 1 heroes
  • A fun game-play idea: All non-event heroes will receive a curse: -25% on everything (Attack, Defense, Health, and Mana).

This new Challenge Festival is expected to debut on 15th December 2021 and will run for 5 days.

Santa’s Challenge is Back -and Mother North is getting a Costume!

The Christmas heroes haven’t lost their shine, and Mother North and Krampus remain two of the most coveted heroes in Empires and Puzzles.

And soon, they’ll be even stronger with the introduction of Costumes.

Here’s a quick rundown:

Mother North’s Costume (Empires and Puzzles)

Special Skills (Hyper Porridge): 1. Each fallen ally has a 55% chance to get revived with 15% HP. 2. Summons an Elf Minion for each ally with 10% HP and 10% attack inherited from the caster. 3. All allies regenerate 612 HP over 4 turns.

So, her revive rate is up 5%, the revived HP is up 5%, and the healing is staggered, but is now after the revive.

I really like what they’ve done with her. Who wouldn’t want this hero?

Krampus’s Costume (Empires and Puzzles)

Special Skills (Merriest Mysery): 1. Summons an Elf Minion for each ally with 10% HP and 10% attack inherited from the caster. 2. The Caster gets Taunt that prevents enemies from using Special Skills on the caster’s allies for 4 turns. 3. The caster gets +50% defence for 4 turns. 4. All allies get +45% attack, and a further 20% increase every time they are hit during 4 turns.

Krampus also gets a nice update. In his case, he gets 1 turn added to his Taunt, and his personal defense goes up 6%.

This time, his allies benefit from an increased attack every time they are hit. Which means, he’ll lose out on the increased defense he received, without the Costume.

But, I suspect that extra Taunt turn will outweigh any loss here.

Santa’s Costume (Empires and Puzzles)

Special Skills (Gift of Rock): 1. Deals 150% damage to all enemies. 2. Summons an Elf Minion for each ally with 10% HP and 10% attack inherited from the caster. 3. All enemies get -24% attack for 4 turns. 4. All enemies get -54% defense for 4 turns.

This is an odd Costume, in that there’s not much difference.

As far as I can see, instead of all enemies getting -34% attack, they now get -24%. And instead of -44% defense, they now get -54%.

Oh, and instead of 3 turns, it now lasts for 4 turns.

I’m sure many will welcome the slight buff, and yes, the extra Defense-down is powerful, but it’s … much of a sameness.

Anyway, all of these Costumes are still subject to change.

Santa’s Challenge is due to run throughout the month of December.

Tower Of Magic (Empires and Puzzles Mag)

December 8th-13th will see the second appearance of the Tower Of Magic.

This really isn’t news, unless like me, you’re hoping to get hold of a Magic hero.

The Old Cynic’s Facebook group

Last month I created a new Facebook group called, Old Cynic’s Empires and Puzzles Group.

It’s designed to be an interactive extension of this blog.

If you’re interested in being part of a smaller group that discusses E&P, you are more than welcome to join.

It’s a no-pressure group where you’re welcome to ask questions, share thoughts, and help others. I also use the group to take Polls every now and then.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Finally, thank you for reading the blog!

  1. Hey OC!

    Great work as always!

btw, I think Krampus’ special skill will be named something else. =)

Can’t wait for your next article!

  2. Also there is a new 5 star hero being introduced to Santa’s Challenge, Mr. Pengi. Stats are (in beta so still could change):

    * Ice (Blue) * Druid * Fast * Male (It is a Penguin)

    Special Skill: Herring Blaster
    1. Deals 450% damage to the target 2. Deals an additional 130% damage to as many random enemies as there are Minions owned by allies. The damage is reduced on each consecutive hits. 3. All hit targets receive 132 Frost damage over 3 turns. 4. Summons an Elf minion for the caster and nearby allies with 10% HP and 10% attack inherited from the caster

    1. Wow, thanks David.

Mr. Pengi looks awesome, “an additional 130% damage to as many random enemies as there are Minions owned by allies”.

That’s a lot of hits. 5X3=15 hits. And he’s Fast. Plus Frost damage, Plus a Minion…

I checked the forum after you shared and saw the ref to the diminishing damage, “The damage is reduced on each consecutive hits”, but he’s still crazy strong for Fast.

      Thanks!

  3. Hi, nice job. But reviewing defences of top 50 players at the moment does not mean, that you are viewing the best defences , just the defences of playes who had most tropiehs at that moment. I would suggest reviewing defences of top alliances – you can pick e.g. three best alliances and review defences of all players – summing to 90 players. Best alliances can be chosen by war score, that would be probably Avengers, SDD and Kobyer.

    1. Hi Greengoo, thanks for commenting. Yes, I agree that this isn’t the Top 10 Defenses Heroes based on team value, or competitive distinction. But I do think it’s a fair reflection on the Top 10 heroes used by players trying to obtain that coveted #1 spot.

After all, we all try to make the best Defense team and it’s reasonable to assume that on the whole, most of the Top 50 teams at any given time contain the majority of the best Defenses Heroes. It would take serious determination to climb to the top with a handful of Flasks from say 2350 cups. -You need to be able to hold key positions to then build up from, when you’re back online.

Also, many of the top players are represented in my list, due to its very nature.

I wasn’t inclined to continue with the Defense list, but some of my readers seem to find a value in it, knowing it’s limitations (that it’s only a general indication of hero trends in E&P).

Thanks for the comment and suggestion, I will keep it in mind.

  4. Love your blog and reviews and the the style in which they’re written. So thank you.

After reading the too 10 list I realized I’ve been very lucky as I have 7 of the 10 heroes. Find myself always thinking of what I’m missing or looking ahead to the next event or featured heroes.

One Unrelated comment. I noticed players in my alliance are quitting in bunches. About 8 in the last 3 months. More than the usual attrition and experienced Level 40+. It coincided with the latest changes in the game. Difficult to figure if it’s just our alliance.

    1. Hey Fledger, thank you.

I think wanting the new heroes is just the nature of the game. I’m always interested in them -heroes like Ludwig are nice additions, but I accept I’ll probably never have them.

Re. Players leaving: This game is tricky because it really has the ability to effect a persons mood; if you get the hero/win the battle, you’re happy -and if not, sad.

I don’t know why people leave in general and can only talk for myself, and for me it’s a matter of managing my own expectations. It’s not about money or heroes.

It’s one of the best mobile games out there, and it’s very addictive (even without spending), and while I’d prefer people didn’t leave, I have to accept that E&P have their own business model which I’m not privy to -and it’s hard to analyse without internal figures.

All of that is a round about way of saying, I don’t know.

Sorry, I can’t offer more -but hopefully the game goes from strength to strength.

Thanks for visiting and reading tho!

  5. I get what you are saying. Thought some might chime in with their observations. Just wondering if it’s an accelerating trend. Thought about posting in the SG board but I’ve seen similar threads turn into useless arguments quickly. Reminds me of the Usenet flame wars of the mid 90s. It was the begining of cyber bullying with witty humor mixed in. Someone had created a Flamewar personally type list which included the. Hole digger, the righteous defender and the cyber nanny lol. I would be the “hijacker” derailing the conversation in thus case ;-). Kidding aside that’s why I asked here. I enjoy the friendly tone of your site’s comments. Ok I’m done now. Carry on
