Valhalla Forever Empires and Puzzles Top Heroes Reviews

Valhalla Forever is the third world (Season 3) of Empires and Puzzles, and it features some of the game’s best heroes.

This countdown was in need of a quick update so today (26th Sept 2022) that’s what I did.

The Best Valhalla Forever Hero Reviews – Empires and Puzzles

This countdown was actually harder than anticipated because there are so many top-tier heroes to choose from. That said, here’s what I ended up with (No. 1 is the Best).

You’ll find the hero’s Special Skills followed by a short review, explaining how the hero earned their position on the list.

#8 Odin (Valhalla Empires and Puzzles)

Screenshot of Odin's Hero Card

Special Skills (Fury of Grimnir): 1. Deals 100% damage to all enemies. 2. Deals additional 18% damage per each Holy shield on the board, up to 244% damage in total. 3. All allies get +8% mana generation, and a further 3% increase per each Holy shield on the board for 3 turns, up to +29% mana generation.

Thoughts On Odin:

When I think of Odin, I’m reminded of your typical consistent, yet underpaid, worker.

He shows up early every morning, takes his job seriously, and really wants to succeed.

He’s a team player who often sacrifices his own time, just to make something work.

See, there’s not much special about Odin. At least, it may not appear obvious. But Odin’s one watch because he’s quite capable of carrying his team on his back.

Odin will strike all enemies and get his squad moving.

#7 Heimdall (Empires and Puzzles)

Screenshot of Heimdall's Empires & Puzzles Hero Card

Special Skills (Boon of Gjallarhorn): 1. Boosts health of all allies by 500. If health exceeds max HP, it is added as temporary HP. Max temporary HP is 100% of max HP. Boosted health counters max HP reduction. 2. Each fallen ally has a 20% chance to get revived with 30% HP. 3. All allies get +30% attack for 4 turns.

Thoughts On Heimdall:

Heimdall is a powerhouse, known for Overhealing and Reviving.

And when he’s in the mood, he can blow that horn like he’s signalling the opening of heaven’s gate. The dead shall rise and the storm shall clear.

I placed Heimdall 7th on my list because he can be a real game-changer, -if he fires after a few of his comrades have fallen, his re-birth can be pivotal.

On top of that, he’s a real specialist when it comes to Very Fast Wars and Tournaments, where his Overhealing and cheeky +30% Attack for all allies, is normally centre stage.

#6 Frigg (Empires and Puzzles Review)

Screenshot of Frigg's Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Special Skills (Brittling Force): 1. Deals 100% damage to all enemies. 2. Deals additional 18% damage per Nature shield on the board, up to 244% damage in total. 3. All enemies get -8% defense, and a further -4% decrease per each Nature shield on the board for 3 turns, up to -44% defense.

Thoughts On Frigg:

Our Dear, Dear Frigg, the frowning monarch.

Frigg is a pain. She props herself up on your screen and looks down on you, judging your every move.

A wry smile pierces her lips each time a Tile brushes her royal garment.

One more time, you imbecile, one more time“, she thinks, as your finger hovers over the board for your next move.

I’m sure Frigg is a lovely person, but she’s a bad hero. And, not in the 80’s way. But in your grandpapa’s way.

Her Defense-Down is normally the precursor to some serious punishment which is about to be doled out by one of her heavy-handed teammates.

#5 Costumed Freya (Empires and Puzzles)

Special Skills (Ravens’ Watch): 1. Summons a Raven Minion for each ally with 25% HP and 15% Attack inherited from the caster. 2. Raven Minion gives +180% Attack to all its owner’s other Minions. 3. All allies get +36% chance to dodge Special Skills that deal damage for 4 turns.

Thoughts On Costumed Freya:

Costumed Freya is one of the more recent additions to the Valhalla Family and if you’ve seen her in the field, there’s a good chance she was surrounded by War of the Three Kingdoms heroes.

And for good reason; they live and breathe Minions, and she not only produces them, but she also increases their Attack while also casting a +36% chance for all allies to dodge Special Skills (that deal damage) for 4 turns.

All on a Fast Mana charge.

When her Teammates speed up for every Minion they receive, well, Costumed Freya represents the perfect mothering figure.

I’m not a huge fan of Costumed Freya personally, but her role and abilities in the current Meta can not be ignored.

#4 Costumed Gefjon (Empires and Puzzles)

Special Skills (Maiden’s Orders): 1. Destroys all Minions from the target and nearby enemies. 2. Deals 335% damage to the target and nearby enemies.

Thoughts On Costumed Gefjon:

Just out the box today! Costumed Gefjon is a fantastic Minion destroyer and hitter.

She operates at Fast and is comparable to Erebus, who just appeared from the Styx Tower Portal.

Costumed Gefjon will hit 3 targets for high-level damage for Fast (335%), and her Secondary (which comes first) is the ability to remove all Minions from the targets.

As I said, she’s fantastic and with all these Minion Controllers appearing, E&P may be moving in a different direction soon.

#3🥉 Lord Loki (Valhalla Empires and Puzzles)

Lord Loki Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Special Skills (Trickster’s Mischief): 1. Copies target’s Special Skill and uses it as if it was the caster’s own Special Skill. 2. If the target does not have a Special Skill, or it can’t be copied, the following Special Skill will be cast: Villain Swing – Deals 275% damage to the target.

Thoughts On Lord Loki:

In a world of Giants, what better than to emulate them? I wish I had Lord Loki because of the sheer fun factor.

He does have his limitations which are well-documented, but he is still one of the best offensive threats in the game.

The long and short of it is the more powerful the opposition gets, the more powerful he gets.

#2🥈 Bera (Valhalla Review)

Screenshot of Bera's Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Special Skills (Dísir of Dusk): 1. Summons a Moth Minion for each ally. Moth Minion inherits 20% attack and 20% HP from the caster. 2. Each hit from the Moth Minion gives the target the following status ailments: 3. The target receives 180 Poison damage over 3 turns. 4. The target can’t receive new Minions for 3 turns.

Thoughts On Bera:

Minions currently dominate Empires and Puzzles, and as a result, Bera’s value has grown exponentially.

Not only does Bera summon a Minion for each ally, but they poison the target and importantly, stop the target from getting any new Minions of their own.

There are few heroes who get the job done as well as Bera. It’s simple and at this point, old, but it’s effective.

Bera works in many different parts of the game, including Defense, Raids, Maps, and Events.

But it’s her Minion Control which propels her above Freya and up to near the top of this list.

#1🥇 Alfrike (Valhalla Review)

Screenshot of Alfrike's Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Special Skills (Cube of Dark Realm): 1. Casts 5 Dark Cubes to random enemies. 2. Dark Cubes deal 200% damage to the target. 3. Dark Cubes reduce max health from the target by 224. Max health can’t get lower than 30% of the original max health. 4. The target automatically casts Mindless Attack on a random ally when mana is full during 3 turns.

Thoughts On Alfrike:

There ain’t really the words to describe the wrath of Alfrike. I shall try:

Oblivion
Utter Despair
Forcing One to accept their fate

Alfrike is a reminder to us all, that some things are worth waiting for.

In a game obsessed with Speed, Alfrike defiantly resists, standing alone, declaring, “nei!”.

Alfrike is my number 1 Valhalla hero because her Cubes are ridiculous. They cause so much damage, permanently reduce HP, and set up a Mindless Attack which effectively renders your heroes moot.

She can hold her own on Defense and is insane in Rush Wars & Tournaments.

Kvasir, the Bee Guy…

If you’re looking for a really useful 3-Star hero, Kvasir is one of the best (in both forms).

I didn’t want to round up this post without mentioning him!

Empires and Puzzles, Valhalla Forever’s Best Heroes

There are lots of notable heroes missing (Salmon Loki?), but I hope this can serve as a decent barometer for new players.

Alfrike is still at #1, although you could make an argument (Speed) to move her down. Check out my Rankings Page (in the comments) for more.

Anyway, hope you like the update!

  1. The issues with Heimdall is that
    1. he heals & then revives. If 5he specials would be in order of ‘revive first & then heal’, he would be much more; and
    2. the revive rate (@ 20%) is way too low.
Point # 1 puts Alberich & Nadezdah way above Heimdall & Mother North.
Btw, I hear M North’s costume rectifies this. If true, then M North is the gal.
    Just my take.

    1. Mother North’s Costume special from beta:
      Special Skill: Hyper Porridge

Each fallen ally has a 55% chance to get revived with 15% HP.
Summons an Elf Minion for each ally with 10% HP and 10% attack inherited from the caster.
All allies regenerate 612 HP over 4 turns.

      1. Resurrect with 15% HP
      2. Minion generation
      3. Regenerate HP over time

      Sweet!

  2. I don’t have Bera and Lord Loki. BUT I do have all the other heroes, most of them twice. My #1 is definitely ALFRIKE. Awesome! When paired with Ariel Xnolphod and Seshat she becomes very fast. I run a team Alfrike Ludwig Xnolphod Ludwig Alfrike. Extremely agressive. My second would be HEIMDALL. Then GEFJON OCTROS and FRIGG.

  3. Frigg is #1 by a mile.
Alfrike is useless outside of rush wars and tournaments.
Bera and Freya are overrated. The age of minion makers is over. The damage heroes pump out nowadays is so high that a few minions tickling me doesn’t matter by comparison.

  4. I just dont see Alfrike being being number one, personally. For me, I think outside of anything VF, shes kind of easy to deal with. Very slow means there are a plethora of heroes that can take care of her before she fires. Id put her around 3rd, or 4th. I think Odin, Frigg, and Bera are all better heroes than her as a whole.

      1. That’s a key point. When you face Alfrike, you MUST pay attention to her. Therefore, the others heroes take advantage. She is the point center of the match. I don.t have her. I’ve tried (hard). And very fast is an important part of the game. There are two kind of players in E&P: those who have Alfrike and those who have not

        1. I have loki fully leveled and love playing against alfrike with him in wars 😁. This said I also have a Dream. To get alfrike and pair her with sif in a defense squad. Should be awesome

  5. I pulled Gefjon today, very lucky!

But atm i don’t know if it’s better to keep emblems to her or give them to Penolite…

    CYA & THX

  6. Hey cynic, would you limit break Alfrike? I’d love to move her onto my defense team, but I just don’t know if the extra D is enough to keep her alive long enough to fire her special? I don’t have the benefit of owning any many boosting heroes to help her out. Other option is Freya.
Like you, I think alfrike is pretty awesome. Just want to use these darned aethers wisely.
    Take it easy!

    1. If you can make it work on defense then I think it’s worth it.

My position on LB is simple; If the hero is used frequently, then it makes sense to up the odds in your favour and LB them.

My Raid team came first, especially those also used on defense.

      Good luck Nurglesgift!

  7. Your description of Frigg made my day ! lol That’s exactly what is it when you fight her.
More generally, I find all S3 heroes very good excepted one or two of them (Baldur, Fenrir, Lady Loki would need some buff). I use Sif, Frigg, Lord Loki daily.

    1. He still has value, but it depends on your roster. 280% to target and NB plus -40% accuracy is a solid take-home. As for a grade; Arcangel. The cool thing is the potential. Potential = Hope.
