Wolfgang is my favourite new 5-Star hero from the Empires and Puzzles event, Clash Of Knights. He’s not the best, but he’s pretty amazing.
I just released a complete Clash Of Knights Quest guide, which included an initial review for all the new heroes. So, if you’re interested in another hero, check it out.

Wolfgang’s Element, Class, Special Skills, & Talents
Wolfgang’s core data:
Element: Holy (Yellow)
Mana Speed: Average
Family Bonus: Wolf ~ 2/3 Wolf heroes get a 35% / 50% chance to make a cast buff undispellable
Special Skills (Gauntlet): 1. Deals 250% damage to all enemies. 2. The caster reduces all received damage by -50% for 4 turns (for himself). 3. After 4 turns, the caster boosts health of all allies by 600 HP.
Talent: Revive ~ +30% chance to revive with 1 HP after a fatal attack. The revive is applied at the end of the turn.
Is Wolfgang worth Levelling? (Empires and Puzzles)
Wolfgang’s Special (Gauntlet)
Wolfgang does two separate jobs; he attacks and heals.
I wanted to see how he compares with other heroes for each skill. So first, let’s start with Attack.
Here’s a table comparing Wolfgang with other heroes who inflict damage to all enemies (on or near an Average mana speed):
|Wolfgang||Average||Deals 250% damage to all enemies||Reduces damage received by -50% for 4 turns (for himself), & heals all allies|
|Killhare||Average||Deals 300% damage to all enemies||All allies get -20% defense|
|Milena||Magic Charge x2||Deals 390% damage to all enemies||Dispels buff from enemies|
|Ursena||Average||Deals 130% damage to all enemies||Deals 260% damage if the target has more than 50% health remaining, & Holy Status effects and damage are reflected back|
|Cristobal||Magic Charge x2||Deals 200% damage to all enemies||Deals 400% damage if the target has more than 50% health remaining|
Wolfgang’s 250% damage against all enemies is solid; only 50% less than Killhare!
The way his Special Skill actually works is, first he’ll attack all enemies, then protect himself (by reducing all damage he receives by 50%), then finally (after 4 turns) he’ll heal the entire ally squad for 600 HP.
There’s not much more to say about the damage aspect of his Special Skill; it’s not crazy strong, but it’s definitely respectable.
So how well does he heal?
Wolfgang’s Healing (Empires and Puzzles)
|Hero||Mana Speed||Healing %||Secondary Skill|
|Wolfgang||Average||After 4 turns, the caster boosts health of all allies by 600 HP||Deals 250% damage to all enemies & reduces damage received by -50% for 4 turns (for himself)|
|Zulag||Average||Caster and NB regenerate 612 HP over 4 turns||Caster and nearby get +46% defense for 4 turns, caster & NB get +74% defense against Special Skills for 4 turns|
|Alexandrine||Average||18% for ALL||Recovers +3% for every Ice Shield on the board (Up to 42%), +54% critical chance or -47% accuracy.|
|Ariel||Average||40% for ALL||Dispels status ailments from allies. All allies get +24% mana generation for 4 turns.|
|Delilah||Average||33% for ALL||Summons a Minion for each ally.|
|Director Zuri||Average||37% for ALL||Recovers 60% Health for the Ally with the lowest remaining HP, Summons a Clown Minion for each ally (13% HP and 20% attack), & Cleanses status ailments from all allies|
|Xnolphod||Average||32% for ALL||Increases the mana of all allies by 20% & decent tile shifting for mana|
How does Wolfgang’s 600 HP of healing translate, when compared to a hero with 42% healing? -Lady of the Lake for example? Well, in my quick tests, our Lady (who has a Slow mana speed) provided between 650 to 730 HP recovery across the board.
The honourable Costumed Rigard (Ave), provides 609 HP over 3 turns. While the Healer of the Moment, Prof. Lidenbrock (Slow) provides 800 HP combined.
So as you can see, 600 HP is a good bit of healing.
The thing to note with Wolfgang’s healing is, it occurs after 4 turns. Just like a TV-Set purchased on Layaway; the payment comes down the road.
To my mind, this isn’t a problem because Wolfgang does enough damage not to be considered your only healer. That means, I’d view his healing as a secondary bonus.
…When it arrives, it arrives. There’s no rush here.
In fact, Wolfgang offers his body as a barrier, to ease your discomfort while you wait, reducing all damage inflicted on him, by -50%.
There’s no getting around it -Wolfgang’s a walking, talking, screaming, Tank.
In fact, at Average mana speed, you could play him just about anywhere. But it makes sense to put him in front of tiles.
The Wolf Family Bonus
Wolfgang is part of (or the founding father of) the Wolf Family: This means he has a chance to make his buff undispellable.
So, his -50% damage could be undispellable. And that’s awesome.
Note: He’ll need 2 other heroes from the same family to get that 50% undispellable chance.
Wolfgang – Empires and Puzzles Clash Of Knights
My final thoughts:
A couple of days ago I reviewed Ludwig. And for me, Ludwig is the most powerful of the new Clash Of Knights heroes.
However, just consider how strong this group is, that Wolfgang could be viewed as second best.
Wolf is a leader, a healer, and a confidant. He’s the type of hero enemies hate, and allies want to be with.
