Miriam & Midnight are the newest powerhouses to join the bustling world of Empires and Puzzles. With some of the heaviest Minions we’ve seen to date, at the quickest speed, are Miriam & her windpipe-closing feline, just too much to handle?

Miriam & Midnight Stats and Special Skills (Empires and Puzzles)

Key Facts: Ice (Blue), Average, Wizard, Morlovia Family

Special Skills (Litter of Kittens): 1. Summons a Blue Kitten Minion for the Caster and nearby allies. Kitten inherits 40% HP and 20% Attack from the Caster, and recovers 15% health for its owner at the end of each turn 2. Kitten Minion lifts the newest cleansable Status Ailment from its owner and adds it to the hit target 3. The Caster and nearby allies get +45% Attack, and a further 20% increase every time they are hit during 4 turns. 4. The Caster and nearby allies regenerate 672 Boosted health over 4 turns (can exceed max HP).

Passive: STEAL BUFF – When this character casts their Special Skills, they have a 100% chance to steal the newest dispellable buff from a random enemy that has Buffs. If no enemy has buffs, they deal 70% damage to all enemies.

Family Bonus: 1/2/3 Heroes: +3/+6/+12% Mana Generation.

Talent: JINX ~ +25% chance to deal +15% extra damage per each active buff the enemies have. The extra damage applies to both normal attacks and Special Skills.

Are Miriam & Midnight Worth Levelling? (Empires and Puzzles)

Yes! If you’ve just pulled Miriam & Midnight, your Roster just got significantly better! [This statement is deliberately hyperbolic. While the author believes strongly in the in-game supremacy of the subject, he does not know the strength nor depth of your personal roster].

I hate to keep flossing about being in Beta, but when I tested her out I was super buzzed. [The author was not “high” at the time of testing. This statement concerns his personal emotional response to using the hero for the first time.]

…And Miriam & Midnight were weaker back then! The Minions were only worth 30% HP!

I found that when Miriam & Midnight fired off, I could almost coast to victory. -It had a significant impact on the outcome of the battle.

It’s true; Empires and Puzzles is made simpler and easier with heroes who affect all allies, or all enemies, but there are some top-drawer exceptions, and Miriam and her spooky-looking cat should be considered among that grouping.

For the Table I’m, of course, going to focus on Minions:

When you consider the weight of M&M’s Minions, you automatically look to compare her with Hulda and Arco.

But what she has over them is the ability to heal the caster and nearby allies for 672 Boosted health and Buff them with 45% Attack (plus 20% per hit) for 4 turns. And that’s not connected to her Minions, so a Bera-type couldn’t stop it.

And, her Minions will somewhat protect you from Status Ailments, by actually flinging them back at the opposition!

Miriam & Midnight Super Minions (Empires and Puzzles)

Miriam & Midnight make a superb team and together they create 3 seriously formidable Minions who are an absolute hazard.

These chunky Kittens consist of 40% HP and recover 15% health for their owners. And here’s the kicker, they will reallocate the most recently received Status Ailment from the owner to some other random sucker!

Fanbloodytastic!

Now, you might expect me to compare that in some way to kids on a playground playing Tag. Like when you Tag some kid and the speedy little brat Tags you back before you can get out of range.

But I’m not gonna do that.

You might even think I’ll compare it to a Bank in some way…

Like when a Bank makes bad business decisions and instead of facing the financial consequences of their incompetence, they instead quickly pass the buck to the common Taxpayer.

But no, I shall not!

Look, these Minions are a delight to sit behind because now I know how it must feel to be a Politician; reallocating accountability like a Golfer swinging at the Range.

Miriam & Midnight FB & Passives (Return to Morlovia)

It’s worth mentioning the Family Bonus and Passives attached here:

First, the Family Bonus gives +3%/+6%/+12% Mana generation to family members. That’s not crazy, but not insignificant either, especially given the strength of some in this family.

Next, we have the Passive; a 100% chance to steal a new Buff from a random hero, -or- to hit all enemies with 70% damage if there is no Buff to steal. This is activated with her Special Skill and could get a bit annoying!

Also, you could time that Passive to steal a Taunt or something else of your choosing. That’s a really nice touch.

My final thoughts:

If you’ve already got Hulda or Arco, you might not be super impressed by Miriam & Midnight, but I’d argue, you’d still have a problem picking one over the other.

These guys effectively start a food fight, tossing back over whatever you’ve decided to throw in the first place.

And, 40% HP alongside what these cute kittens actually do, is obviously going to be a problem once initiated.

Plus, all that healing; 15% from the Minion itself and 672 Boosted (over 4 turns) from Mirian. What’s that? About 290 HP (Based on Grazul) + 168 HP = 458 HP (per turn!).

At the end of the day, Miriam & Midnight are an awesome team and well worth the sneezes should I get them.

Hero Grade for Miriam & Midnight (Empires and Puzzles)

So for my grading, the question is:

Is this hero’s Special capable of/likely to change the outcome of a battle? Yes.

If not, do they still bring enough to the party to help defeat the deities? N/a.

(* There’s a chance that 40% HP Minions (at Average) will make her completely OP. And if that’s the case, I will give her a field promotion to Diety: Tier-3. But I will test that on Defense first. For now, I am happy to let her leave our gathering with a Hero Grade of…)

Update: Enough time has passed to show that 40% Minions at Average, with all that they do, is the Crem Dela Crem. Upgraded to T-3:

        With my 22nd token I just pulled matilda, not really sure about her. But maybe, given the, right hรฉroes beside her, her talents can become pretty cool

  2. I had 60 pulls saved up for Morlovia. I was lucky enough to pull alucard and Miriam plus kitty.
    Alucard is a given, he’s at 3/50 and I’m already testing him in raids. He’s insane. But I only have 4 rings, the wait will be agonizing.
    I was unsure about Miriam but after your review I’m considering leveling her. I’m currently using zircon but that attack up she offers is insane.

  3. Is she really that good?? I got her from 25 token pulls. At first i was not impressed and stuffed wayyyy down into the roster. lol

    But maybe I was also blinded by Alucard. haha. I dont have Arco or Hulda. I was actually de-motivated by the fact that she only give minions, buff, heals to nearby allies. but…. really? haha. Im gonna have to do more research.

    When in doubts, ask Old Cynic. thats my new motto for E&P.

      Hey MIB, that question’s all about your roster (both ways too -how do you manage Minions?). But 40% fat minions that heal more than Hulda and push back the most recently receive SA, plus, plus, plus. I enjoyed playing with her and it’s just my 2c. Alucard is on the list today… That should be a shorter post.

        1. I saw M&M at defenses at tank on raids. Bring out my best mono Green. Almur(lb max emblem)+Grace(max emblem)+Guan Yu (LB max emblem)+Jade (LB max emblem)+Lianna (no costume max emblem).
          Usually, 3 tiles is enough to kill blue 5 stars lb hero. but not M&M. she survives and she calls her cats. Then I got the 9 tiles i need and my heroes wreck havoc with all 5 going 5. Almur+Grace+Guan Yu+Jade x2 100% kill record was broken. M&M and her 2 buddies survived. Lianna was assigned to kill off the sniper at the wings. Then M&M goes off the 2nd time and all hell breaks lose. The minion gave the special skill def down by Grace and Almur elemental def down back to my heroes and of course the 2 M&M buddies happen to be Green and they both killed my whole team. lol. Long story shot. Im gonna max and lb M&M.

  4. When I looked at the skillset of all the Halloween heroes, Miriam looked completely OP to me, much more than Allucard. Would take either. Nice heroes.

    Once again thank you for covering the recent heroes. Really appreciate your insight and effort that you put in to write about them.

    Ok I will go straight to the point and would like to ask you for your advice in defeating M&M? Case in point: I used a 5k team with 2 greens (1 of which is Quenell 85 and limit broken and the other is MN my healer) and I played against a 4500 team with M&M as tank. I lost the first game without barely even scratching them. Bad tiles aside, I was shocked to see how strong M&M was as a tank. I was only able to beat that same team in the second round after going into overtime and having a damage increase.

    Iโ€™m definitely not into nerfing heroes as I have experienced the pain of having heroes nerfed after an update but I was just wondering if they went overboard this time in create this hero especially if itโ€™s going to be so hard or near impossible to beat?

    As such, I would like to hear your advice on this matter?

    1. Hello Jonah, thanks for visiting.

      For me, M&M is so powerful because she/they operate on 2 fronts: Status Effects and Minions. I would try to stop 1 of them to make her less effective. So, a Malosi type/immediate Dispell, or the Holy Grail, a Bera type to stop the 40% food fighting Minions. You might have to go 3-up on the Stack against her. I’m trying to create a 3/2 Nature Team now (due to pulling C.Francine), which as it happens, should work well against M&M.

  6. I Love this game!! I have M&m 2 shea beast. Another of my favorites are Zocc and Guulinburst!!!!! Ty phone keys smack bro specially on bosses and someone to cleanse ailments. + time freeze and hurricanes. ๐Ÿค™

  7. M&M is nuts. I decided to use her while clearing Morlovia (despite still in the process of levelling her up) and she did not disappoint.

  8. Hi all.
    I have Arco, i have Hulda. Both maxed, with +20 emblems and LB to 85.
    I just had Old witch and kitty, and you know what ? I’m very happy.
    Her minions go over 700hp, the healing is great, the overheal is cheated.
    Pair her with revivers in defense, and the ennemy won”t be able to wipe you out.
    Put strong slow heroes (khufu/goseck/any other freak of nature) around, and they’ll have time to fire.
    Wanna play with the nerves of your ennemies ? Put a taunter or and escaper (C.Kadilen or Bastet, the black kitty) and you’r sure to make the ennemy ragequit.
    Of course, there’s the weakness of going against heroes who wipe minions (topaze, Eloise, Erebus), yet, she’s a very good pull for her neighbouring friends ๐Ÿ™‚
    Just to play, i’ll pair her with hulda and arco ๐Ÿ™‚ And a Nadezda for the revive. Good luck not losing with the time limit ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. What would suggest for emblem path. I use your advice of shields and health and pick shields over health when given the choice. With Miriamโ€™s special would you pick health first over shields?

  10. Another one of those who will slow down your greatest in all arenas-team… but with a good minionpopperteam shes not really any greater threat.

    I was a bit angered with Hulda when she was released because it broadened the playfield and forced me to think… but now i have proper countermeasures, and the best part is that the countermeasures goes well against everything from W3K to bera-freya-m&m.

    I understand that its annoying for new players not to be able to get to higher levels in arenas because of specialised heroes, but it has been like that from the get go… i remember a time when gravemaker and alberich held my generation of newbies away from platinum and diamond arena.

    we have our own preferences of all colors/origins of heroes.. personally i think blue is a very killable color and Halloween a very killable source..
    Kalevala otoh and covenant/styx are the ones putting up the biggest amount of resistance.. they are the “i cant believe you survived yet another tile you stupid hero”-kindof heroes.
    This is a sense you develop after winning 30k-ish matches in the arena..

    From my perspective M&M arent really the worst roadblock out there and i can keep going without any kind of tone down, or more -they can do what they like, as nothing i do is really effected by it ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. ๐Ÿ˜„ This is the hot topic of the day; Will M&M get the hammer?

      I think it’s coming personally and that’s because M&M clearly works/dominates, despite the prevalence of anti-Minion Heroes out there. -M&M remains the Tank of choice in the top tiers.

      Problem is, an anti-Minion Hero doesn’t always have synergy with the rest of your Raid squad so you still get your ass handed to you by the rest of the Defense.

      What about Wars? Where Heroes are only available once for Raids, -I’m guessing M&M is doing great business there.

      Finally, how many people actually have a solid anti-Minion Hero? If it’s the majority, why is M&M doing so well on D in general?

      At the end of the day, we don’t have access to the true data; only SG knows the score. But from the outside looking at all these teams, and facing M&M without a premium anti-Minion Hero… She is deffo a barrier.

      All that said, I personally don’t care too much either way what the Devs do. It’s their business; I just report, review, and tell silly stories! Also, I see that loads of people pulled for her. But but but, whether it’s M&M or Anne or X or Y or Z, it matters not. We all want balance.

      1. Yeah, there is a smiting coming up for M&M seeing she is way to common in the areas that count.. defense in war/raids.
        But up at the levels where you meet 1/2 or more of M&M-tanks players also have proper counter measures.. it doesnt have to be special minion killer teams.
        I usually run 2 juggernaut teams, 2 minionkillteams and 2 strong mono tankbusterteams so there is really no lockup when you face a battlefield full of catladies.
        Its dull as hell to face the same setups though, but we already know what dull means from Rushwar and Rushtournaments when you are forcefed Alfrike without any real tactic besides getting your 6 tiles to get first strike.

        Im not really trying to defend of prevent any nerfhammer as i havent really found any use for my M&M yet, so the proper evolution in the name of diversity should be more opportunities to think outside of the box, there should be more intricate combos, better synergies more value to the old duds and so on.(duds=best example Bosswolf)
