Lord Loki Vs. Costumed Lord Loki (Empires and Puzzles)

Costumed Lord Loki Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Costumed Lord Loki is at Empires and Puzzles’ Valhalla portal, and as he’s such a remarkable Hero, it’s only fitting that I cover him today.

If you’ve already taken a Hero from the current Fated Summon, that Hero was likely Lord Loki.

And you may be looking at his Hero Card, then back at me, wondering just what in the Roody Poo I could possibly add to the mix?

Well, it’s true; for some, I’ll be going over old ground, but for others, hopefully, there’s a little utility in sharing an opinion.

Lord Loki Vs Costumed Lord Loki – Old Cynic Review

Let’s start with a side-by-side comparison of Lord Loki Vs. Costumed Lord Loki:

Element: Ice (Blue), Mana Speed: Average (10 tiles), Family: Jotunheim Realm ~ All allies get an Ice Giant Minion with 6/10/14% HP and 10/12/16% attack inherited from the caster when a Jotunheim Hero dies.

The following table Stats include the Costume Bonus.

So, the main and most significant difference is the addition of the “Copies all dispellable Buffs from the target”.

And that is a pretty significant improvement to an already super-powerful Hero.

~Not only do you get to copy a Special from your enemy, but now you can weigh up the advantages/disadvantages of taking a weaker Special in order to obtain a bunch of powerful Buffs.

For example, Ludwig’s Taunt may have been dispelled while his neighbours are still jittery from all the caffeine.

…Maybe you take one of them instead? It’s a great option to have.

Costumed Lord Loki (Empires and Puzzles)

Lord Loki, no matter what version you have, is a mastermind in strategy. His entire philosophy is, “If you can’t beat them, copy them”.

While that’s a great trait to have in the gaming world, it’s something you really hate to see in the real world.

In Empires and Puzzles, Lord Loki represents the Joker in the pack, or a Mega Mushroom, or the cheat code you fumbled into your SNES controller back in 1994.

Lord Loki will take any Special Skill Empires & Puzzles has to offer and will make it his own. Absolutely shocking stuff.

And if he can’t copy it, he hits out in what can only be described as a childish outburst (265%/275%).

The beauty and frustration of Lord Loki is that when facing elite superstars, he becomes elite himself. However, when facing Meek opposition, he becomes Meek as well.

They say you should “never stoop to their level” when dealing with ignorant people, but Lord Loki can’t help himself!

If you put Klaern in front of him, he starts taking off his shirt, and if you put Morris next to him, he starts digging!

And as the battle progresses, and you start to lose good Heroes to copy, sometimes you can be left with a one-on-one with the great one: Vivica.

And now you’re trying to out-heal her!

(Albeit, she’s Slow.)

The Masterful Lord Loki (Empires and Puzzles)

Don’t get me wrong. Lord Loki is an absolute beast, especially powerful at the top end of the game, where you’re facing the new and absurd Heroes that enter via the Turnstile of Luck.

I wish I had him in my personal account, and there’s a good chance I’ll get the base version via the Fated Summon (I also need Bera).

It is true that he randomly selects a Hero to copy while on Defense and is an absolute liability as a result. But that doesn’t diminish his value which is found in his ability to contribute to the Offence.

And now, with the Costume version, you can copy all dispellable Buffs from the target as well, -he truly has gone over the top.

For the record, which one is better?

We’ve had quite a few Costumes that are simply updates of their original versions, with maybe a tweak here and there and the additional Costume Bonus.

And it’s the same here with Lord Loki, but I can forgive it on this occasion. I mean, where do you go with Lord Loki anyway? How do you completely change him while keeping folk happy?

He’s a legend in his own right, and anything you do will likely take away from that legacy, so the Devs did the next best thing: Added to it.

It, therefore, goes without saying, Costume Lord Loki is better than the original:

The Best Copycats in Empires and Puzzles (Costumed Lord Loki)

No other Hero does what Lord Loki does, but here are a few in the same vein:

HeroMana SpeedSpecial Skills

2. Copies target’s Special Skill and uses it in addition to the caster’s own Special Skill.
The HatterAverage (10 tiles) 1. Deals 400% damage to the target and minor damage to nearby enemies.
2. Steals all the dispellable Buffs from the enemies and randomly allocates them on the allies.

There’s not much going on here because Lord Loki is so unique.

However, it’s worth noting that he can give you the same amount of damage and healing as any Very Slow Hero in the game, and he can do it all at Average speed.

-Because all he needs to do is copy it.

Costumed Lord Loki’s Hero Grade (Empires and Puzzles)

My final thoughts:

I initially graded Lord Loki a while back as part of my Valhalla Forever countdown, and I’m happy with that grading for both.

He is, in my estimations, one of the most powerful yet versatile offensive Heroes in the game.

I find myself often trying to explain his weaknesses in an effort to support my grading.

And at times, I regret that because Lord Loki should be celebrated for the joy and strength he brings to any roster.

Lord Loki is also a complex Hero, and I’m sure his long-term owners could add a level of detail that supersedes the summary this post represents. And please feel free to do so in the comments below.

In my testing of Costume Lord Loki in Beta, even though I knew what to expect, I was still pleasantly surprised. He adds a level of strategy and fun that most other Heroes can only dream of.

So for my grading, the question is:

Is this Hero’s Special capable of/likely to change the outcome of a battle? Yes.

If not, do they still bring enough to the party to help defeat the deities? N/a.

The base version is now a Deity: Tier 1.

  1. today I saw his costume, got my 7still needed tokens for a pull, and actually got him! if you know how to use him he’s one of the best around and that’s something with all the new powerhouses in the field. I have nothing interesting to add to your, again, nice-to-read review but just wanted to say: i’ve got him :-). (i’m f2p so I have to be happy with everything that comes my way)
Together with Ray last week this has been the best start of a month for me in a verryyyyyyy loooooonnnnnggg time.

    1. 💥Boom💥 Congrats duende! Awesome to hear. If you do get round to a Fated pick, you can now select another on the list. And you got the Costume too, fantastic luck.

  2. This is one of the cases (with Tyr and Baldur) that I got when it was released. And I cannot stop thinking it is now obsolete (without costume) and that makes me sad. I want to save and pull for 30 when all Valhalla costumes are released, hoping to get him and Heimdall.
Thanks for all the work on this, OC.

    1. Hi Anhelli, I did see this! Sorry for the late reply.

I generally only grade heroes I’ve reviewed, mainly because it really takes a thorough examination to give a grade I’d be happy with.

No one person can say who the best heroes are, but I try to take a stab at it and just need that time to reflect in an ever growing pool of monster heroes.

Anyway, all 3 are top end, Hetepheres can be a nightmare on the right team. I’ll keep them in mind if I do another roundup/catchup, or sit down to try and add some more names to the ranking page.

One more thing, with the Big Balance Change coming up, I wasn’t in a hurry to start grading heroes without full reviews, because we are all potentially looking at a large shakeup soon. …And I’ll have to re-evaluate a bunch of them at that point.

Thanks for reading, and sorry again!

  3. Tried to spend a few bucks to get C Loki but no luck. I’ll just settle to the original from Fated summon. As you said, he’s still a good hero — a unique one.

  4. What I’m disappointed about is Kalo isn’t able to copy Loki’s special after Loki dies. I took him in my fated Simon just to try pairing the two. I know Loki can’t steal kalos skill but have no idea why it’s not working the other way around.

  5. One thing that gets overseen with Lord Loki that while he’s average, he’ll copy slow and very slow heroes no problem while being average. Hello, Mother North, how’s that very slow mana going for ya? I’ll do that same porridge sitting at average, thank you very much.

  6. I think you skipped over one of his biggest strengths. It’s not the copying of buffs, but it’s the 30% additional damage for 6 turns when he has been LB2d. 6 turns is a long time, and 30% additional damage when you copy e.g. Khufu or another OP hero is incredibly powerful.
