How Good is Quartz? Empires and Puzzles Review

Quartz Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Quartz is a new 5-Star hero from the Empires and Puzzles Ninja Tower. While he doesn’t live up to Ruby’s hype, he is a powerful and versatile healer.

Is Quartz worth Levelling? (Empires and Puzzles)

Yes. He’s a useful and powerful healer, although he’s not perfect.

When I first saw Quartz, I immediately thought, C.Rigard mark-2.

In fact, he has exactly the same flaw as Rigard; he Cleanses after applying the regenerative healing and bonus attack. That means, on rare occasions, Status Ailments might affect his ability to buff his team.

Now, that’s not a massive flaw -just a niggling, what could have been, type of flaw.

As for the Rigard comparisons: Quartz is the Bigger Brother, who interestingly, is Cleric Class too. Handy, for when replacing him!

But Quartz is more than that because he offers in-game versatility that Rigard could only dream of.

Quartz’s Special Skills (Incite Ki)

Quartz isn’t a crazy OTT healer. But, he’s the healer many of us have wanted for a while.

A healer who can deliver everything Rigard can, but in a 5-Star shell…

Ninja Mana Charge 1 (Incite Ki) – Quartz Empires & Puzzles

Quartz’s first charge, sees him give all allies 164 HP and +34% attack over 2 turns. And then, he Cleanses them.

For me, this first-tier Special Skill is where Quartz really shines.

In just 5 tiles, he’ll wipe off a nagging Ailment.

And we all know, as soon as the battle begins, Frigg & Morel are trying to get your Defenses down.

But Quartz is a nice quick response to that. And, he’ll also heal your team for some of the damage they took.

Here’s a quick chart comparing a few quick healers.

I think Quartz looks great among this company. That +34% attack boost, so early on in the battle, is a nice touch -Especially if you play one or two quick heroes who are capable of capitalising on it.

Ninja Mana Charge 2 (Incite Ki) – Quartz Empires & Puzzles

This middle-tier Special is his weakest (when compared with other heroes).

Ninja X2, takes 10 tiles to charge. -The same as an Average speed hero.

So like for like, Rigard actually does more than Quartz on the same charge.

Rigard regenerates 609 HP, buffs attack by +48%, and Cleanses.

Quartz regenerates 564 HP, buffs attack by +44%, and Cleanses.

Yes, it’s weaker than Rigard, but it’s 1 of 3 options available. And the other 2 choices blow Rigard out of the water.

We don’t need a chart, because Rigard’s the standard-bearer. However, for reference:

  • Garnet gives you boosted health of 400 HP (at Ninja 2)
  • Zulag gives you 612 HP (at Average)
  • and, other Average healers give you between 30-42%

Ninja Mana Charge 3 (Incite Ki) – Quartz Empires & Puzzles

On Ninja x3, Quartz will regenerate 860 HP over 4 turns. This effect can’t be dispelled. He’ll also buff team attack by +54%, and Cleanse everybody.

The +54% attack-up is notable and should put some weight behind your punches.

Looking at the healing, the only question is, How much are we getting for our money? What’s 860 HP worth?

  • Zircon, another new Ninja, gives you 980 HP on his x3 Charge
  • Prof. Lidenbrock gives you 800 HP at Slow speed
  • Garnet gives you 720 HP on her x3 Charge
  • Lughaidh gives you 720 HP at Slow speed
  • Wolfgang gives you 600 HP at Average speed
  • And, a 40-44% type 5-Star healer will give you around 700-750 HP per go

860 HP isn’t too shabby at all.

Quartz – Empires and Puzzles Ninja Tower

My final thoughts:

Quartz doesn’t blow the barn doors off with any of his Special tiers, but he does do a solid job of healing.

He also lets you choose when to utilise his Special:

  • If you’re in need of a Cleanse, Quartz will do it in just 5 tiles (half the time of Rigard)
  • If you’re in need of something more substantial, he can hook you up in 10 tiles
  • If you’re in need of top-tier (undispellable) healing, he’s got you in 15 tiles

And those three options will be great for Raids, and in Defense.

Add to that, the Attack-up, and you have a nicely rounded hero on your hands.

While he’s not in the same league as some of the insane heroes we’ve seen recently, he will help you deal with them.

  1. This hero is the reason the purple aether event got “missplaced” this month. Why would anyone try to pull him if we can get a bunch of LB costume rigards instead.

      1. Good review and generally spot on.

I do think you are underestimating his utility in raid/war offense. Cleanse at 5 tiles is crazy helpful, and when coupled with his attack boost and minor heal, makes him my #1 healer in that role. I put him in before Prof, frankly, and would rank him as a Deity in that role.

In PVE, raid war defense and titan attack, I agree there are better healers.

  2. I pulled Zircon. I’m new to this game. Could you tell me, immune to buff dispell means +attack, +defence and boost health wont be dispel by enemy?

    1. You know, I’m planning on doing a Zircon review, so I’ll go into more detail there. But yes, Zircon will Boost health (which normally means Over-heal), he will ‘buff’ all allies by +defense%, and he will make all allies immune to buff-dispells (that means you can’t take the +defense, or any other positive buff, away).

Be sure to subscribe to get a note when I release that review!

  3. I think most players really underestimate Quartz. His very fast buff to attack coupled with very fast attacking heroes gets you to kill off enemies faster than they can charge their first charge on when you are on offense. What other hero give you that advantage in the game? Costume Rigard requires 4 matches to do the same effect, which is close to mid to end game, not at the beginning of the fight. Quartz does it in two matches.

  4. If you have them both you could flank CR and Quartz around a big yellow tank with fast strikers on the wings. Fire Q first, then CR to let Q build to level 3.

  5. Hello I’ve been reading, loving, and sharing (with players & in our main Line group of our family of 13 alliances, of which we’ve 251 members in our main Line group so that’s more potential fans/visitors of your reviews) your stellar very informative and very appreciated insightful with your added bonus of light humor, imho it completes the reviews by keeping them fun and entertaining while being informed of the grit of what you’re taking the time in sharing. With, this being said, I’m sorry for bothering you, ofif I’m simply not finding it, but I’ve noted you’ve done reviews for events and other towers like Magic and Styx, but have you done one for the Ninjas? I’ve been asked this by a few of our members and was sure you’d have done one, except I’m not finding one? If you’ve not, especially with all your valuable other exemplary gems that you’re probably working on even now, I feel taken aback a little by asking this, but do you have any plans to write up a review for the Ninjas Tower similar to the ones you did for Magic and Styx? Thank you for your invaluable time in reviewing this and for giving your fans/readers a way such as this to correspond with you. Keep up the great informative and fun troves of knowledge and insight that you continue to kindly share with players/lovers/fans of E&P, it is no wonder you were allowed to join the ranks of Beta, I/we (as I’m including our family of alliances) look forward to your continuation of your much valued reviews, again thank you for taking the valuable time to research and compile them. Have a great rest of your week and wishing you much success to come. 👍🙂

    1. 😊 That’s a lovely comment, maybe the best I have ever had! And that’s a lot of people to let down… Man…

Alright, let’s chat! The Ninja Tower was before my blog and the Tower of Magic was like the first big new event to appear after. And, it did set a trend where I tried to cover each new event thereafter. But it was just an impossible task for a number of reasons.

When I first wrote that Magic post, I thought it would be maybe 2 or 3 for the entire year.

I kept going but it was clear by the Styx event post, that I wouldn’t be covering events going forward unless I had time and a good reason to. I do plan/hope to cover (and am working on) the new Monsters Island event because it marks a significant change to gameplay.

That said, I plan to continue to update all my events with new heroes and such, as they come around.

For the work involved, there just won’t be enough interest in a Ninja Tower post at this stage. It takes me about 5-7 days to put together an event post that reaches my own impossible standards.

And, for all I know, E&P might abandon the Ninja Tower next week!

It’s all about balance for me.

I love writing, that’s always been my first priority; to fulfil my own desire to create. Sometimes, when I push too hard and cover too much, my passion can be lost and my first priority is not met. And, the standard can suffer too.

I have been thinking about ways to get someone else on board, but with personal blogs like this, it can be hard to find folk who have the same energy and free time etc.

Anyway, it is perfectly reasonable of you to ask, and I’m flattered that you would, but I hope you can understand that it’s perfectly reasonable for me to decline.

It obviously matters to me, hence the long reply. Is there a workaround?

Is it the Event, Troops or Heroes that you’re mainly interested in? I could add all the Ninjas to my Ranking Page, giving them all a grading?

Hope it makes sense, thanks for reading and sharing! I appreciate it!
