Flip: The Beach Party Hero (Empires & Puzzles)

Flip Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Flip (Empires and Puzzles) is the unexpected target of my first Beach Party review, and that’s because his whole attitude is funny as f*%k.

I wanted to write something yesterday but was busy with real-life stuff and tired by the end of the day. So instead of writing, I fell asleep with an episode of Murder She Wrote playing in the background.

But I’m saying; it was purely coincidental. ~Not like I’m seeking out Jessica Fletcher for 1980’s-style nap times.

“Hello, lead investigator? Yes, please step aside so I can find the killer myself. Tea and biscuits? Sounds lovely. Yes, I know everybody, and yes, many of them will die. However, thankfully, I’m always in town to use police resources to build a case against the bad guy. And unlike Columbo, I never forget a key question!”.

Anyway, Flip is a very cool Hero, and today, I wanted to share why he was such a hit in Beta.

Flip’ant Disrespect (Empires and Puzzles)

Looking back at Beta, Flip was easy to appreciate; after all, here’s this strong Healer who also exhibits some pretty Offensive traits.

I mean, he gives all his crew the green light to go in heavy and aids them with +50% Critical Chance.

And the combination of these Skills means that Flip, well… um… brings… well… a lot to the party.

NOOOooOOOoooo!!!

My biggest issue with Flip is his artwork; He shouldn’t be a Seal. ~He should be a Politician who dismisses the ideals of democracy and capitalism so he can get his mates access to that public purse!

… Or a gangster who infiltrates government so his mob can ravish those lucrative contracts…

Hold up… that’s the same thing!

OK, Flip needs a suit, ASAP.

Flip the Mobster (Empires and Puzzles)

Alright, here’s how Flip assisted me in Beta;

Step 1: Told me to pair him up with some big Hitters
Step 2: Charge his Mana
Step 3: Wait until at least one or two of the Hitters are in range
Step 4: Release propaganda so the public don’t question the s#*% about to go down
Step 5: Activate his Special
Step 6: Bombs away!!!!!!!!!!!
Step 7: Be the first to demand a Public Inquiry and make sure my mates are sitting on the board

Now, I’ve never pulled off a job of this magnitude before, but with his simple strategy, I was able to exit stage left with a whole heap of Beta Cups!

Jokes aside, here’s the key skill that makes Flip so devastating:

‘All allies bypass defensive buffs with their attacks for 4 turns.’

There may be another Hero who grants allies the ability to bypass defensive buffs, but if there is, I can’t think of them.

And reading the Hero Card, and based on my memory, we’re talking about Special Skills and Tile damage here.

And when you attach that Skill to a Hero who will heal his teammates for 45%, well, then you have a legacy Hero… A Hero with which One could build a team around.

All of a sudden, your Hitters can hit with impunity, and it’s truly a sight to behold.

And then, on top of that, Flip gives them a 50% chance to hit the jackpot with Critical Chance for 4 long turns.

What’s ‘Critical Chance’? A chance to inflict double the damage from Normal attacks, -So, not Specials.

And Critical Strikes tend to land like a brick.

All in all, you have a Hero here who will heal his teammates before enabling them to do their very worst.

Flip’ing them the bird – Beach Party (Empires and Puzzles)

My final thoughts:

Flip is a great Hero to own, even if a little let down by his own appearance.

That said, it may work to his advantage as the opposition would never expect him to do what he does… a bit like a straight-cut Politician, for a random example.

He also has some strong Passives; first, the -20% damage from DoT (Family Bonus), his Resistance to Water Damage, and the 200HP damage he inflicts on all enemies alongside his Special.

There is a weakness with Flip, of course, and that’s the fact that he’s not a pure Healer.

-He won’t Cleanse, provide a defensive buff, or Overheal. Truth is, once he drops his 45%, he’s already pushing his teammates forward, expecting them to hurry up and land the big KO finisher.

And I think that’s fair enough, considering he doesn’t really require too much effort to synergise. -He’s a ball of synergy in and of himself.

He doesn’t even care what Element his teammates are.

And I imagine he’s gonna just love Titans and Rush Events.

In my view, Flip’s a fantastic Hero who provides some great offensive options.

Anyway, I’d love to read your views in the comments below!

Hero Grade for Flip

So for my grading, the question is:

Is this hero’s Special capable of/likely to change the outcome of a battle? Yes.

If not, do they still bring enough to the party to help defeat the deities? N/a.

  1. I normally don’t keep dupes, but I got 2 flips on 150 pulls. Thinking about leveling both, but not sure.

  2. so it is critical for special attack and tiles or just tiles? in one part say both in another just tile,? please clarify me 🙈

    1. As I understand it:

-The Bypass defensive buffs should be for all attacks, because that’s what’s written on the Hero Card ‘with their attacks’.

Normally, if that’s not the case, the qualifier is attached with it, for ex. Tarlak states ‘normal attack’ for his buff. And Zagrog links his bypass to his own attack.

-The Critical Chance is Normal damage, not Special Skills.

So the first one (bypass) is both and the second (crit dam) is normal damage only.

  3. I remember I thought a couple of years ago, while leveling Ares: “There are not good 5-star red healers, that can be a good thing. Give the colour some identity”. Now we have at least three, but I liked this design. Like Ares, is an attacking healer, a hero that does not want to protect you, but keep you alive to keep attacking.

    1. Hey MIB, good to see you. No is the answer.

I did initially plan to review more but I’ve decided to review a different Hero tomorrow. -Cool heroes tho…

  4. Got him this morning from a W3K EHT and felt meh about it because I seem to have an abundance of healers and lacking hitters. But reading through your review: I’m feeling excited about this seal. I know 2C Marjana is excited for this red friend.

  5. Since I have started playing; months ago I found your blog and it was so incredibly useful and helpful! Thank you for putting so much of your time and effort! It also always fun to read as it is written with humor and style. Just recently I got Phenexa and now in just couple pulls for free coins I got Flip… I am so torn whom I should level first on your opinion?

    1. Hey Marty, thanks for the support. It’s a tough call, both are great. In honesty, I’d look to synergy for the answer; is any other Hero already doing what these guys are doing for you. Like Phenexa’s Attack Buff? If there’s duplicity where you’re looking to place them, then maybe you’d benefit from the other.

In isolation, the comparison is made harder by Phenexa’s Passive which might be relevant, also the Buff extension (do you run a heavy buffer?).

I like both and really can’t tell you which one to go for. 1 appears to offer more for Raids and the other for Titans. Although, both can be applied to either. Question is, who you do fancy? Great problem to have.

      1. Thank you for your answer! I was reading and thinking quite a bit…as you say – both are great in their own way. Similar but also quite different. I have Diaochan already leveled and C Ariel – and I was thinking that probably Phenexa would work well with Diaochans stolen buffs..hmm?

  6. I would like mortimer’s analysis, I use diachan, but I’m going to put him in defense too, I don’t know the position that fits him and diachan together

  7. I pulled Misty 😢🤦🏻‍♀️ is she worth it!? 6 spyglass only and pulled these the past couple of months –

    Misty
    Celimene
    Porthos (today!)
    Misandra (Fated Summons)
    Morel

I was thinking to level Porthos or Celimene but unsure.
