Skargremar Empires and Puzzles HotM June 23

Skargremar Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Skargremar is Empires and Puzzles’ June 2023 Hero of the Month (HotM), but in all honesty, he’ll likely be in and out the door so quickly he won’t get a chance to learn anyone’s name.

Why?

Because it’s Soul Exchange season, baby!

This guy isn’t even that bad, but the temptation to ditch him as part of a multi-Hero trade will be irresistible.

Question is…

Is Skargremar worth the trouble of trying to keep hold of?

Skargremar Vs Hurricane (Empires and Puzzles)

The last Hero I reviewed on this blog was Hurricane, the Jungle Hunter 6-Star:

HeroMana SpeedDamageAtkSecondaryOC’s Grade
HurricaneAverage (10 tiles)Deals 410% damage to the target & NB889Burns for 904 over 4 turns and absorbs 50% of damage as health (+Atk Stack)T3
SkargremarAverage (10 tiles)Deals 285% damage to the target & NB758Reduces Mana by 20% and a little Miss?
OldCynic.com – Skargremar Vs Hurricane

And let’s be clear; Hurricane makes Skargremar look like a kid on his first day of school, standing frail in the playground as the shock of being left alone for the first time startles him.

“Mummy, noo. I don’t wanna stay”, he cries, clinging on to her jacket sleeve.

But soon, mummy’s sobbing as she hurries back to the car.

She turns around, mouths, “Be a big boy”, and encourages him into the school building.

And after a brief moment and with his head down, he sluggishly follows the tips of his toes as they lead him in.

Ahhhhhh, Love.

And that will be you. Encouraging Skargremar into battle. 😁

I’m joking!

It’s not right to only compare Skargremar to brand-new monsters. After all, he deserves a fair shake.

It’s not like you can compare me to The Rock. That guy’s 6’4 and living his best life!

I’m shorter and fatter and have my doctor on speed dial.

Skargremar Vs. Mitsuko & Neith

Mitsuko is who Skargremar reminds me of most.

Mitsuko Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Interestingly, Mitsuko has been made available in the last two Fated Summons and serves as a great comparison Hero for Skargremar.

Mitsuko is Average speed, hits 3 enemies for 245% each, reduces their Mana by 20%, and also casts a Counterattack against Ice.

Also, *Neith, who deals 200% damage to all enemies, reduces their Mana by 20% and issues -35% accuracy for 4 turns (at Ave).

Since Beta, Skargremar’s Miss Ailment (-20%) has been Buffed to -30%, bringing him more in line with Neith and really adding another string to his bow.

(*Neith was Buffed in the Sept 22 Update, increasing her hit from 150% to 200%, and her Mana reduction from 10% to 20%.)

Skargremar Vs. Empires and Puzzles

Let’s compare Skargremar to a few Average 3-Hitters:

HeroMana SpeedDamageSecondary
SkargremarAverage (10 tiles)Deals 285% damage to the target & NBReduces Mana by 20% and -30% Miss
GraceFast (8 tiles)Deals 285% damage to the target and nearby enemiesTarget cannot cast Taunt and Target and NB get -34% against Special Skills for 3 turns
ReubenFast (8 tiles)Deals 260% damage to the target and nearby enemiesHe tries. He really does.
NeithAverage (10 tiles)Deals 200% damage to all enemiesReduces Mana by 20% and -35% Miss
MitsukoAverage (10 tiles)Deals 245% damage to the target and nearby enemiesReduces their Mana by 20% plus Ice Counterattack
AzuriteNinja 2Deals 325% damage to the target and nearby enemiesInflicts -40% accuracy and if they miss, they do 390 damage to a random ally

Look at Grace up there flexing! 285% to 3 at Fast!

There’s Reuben, following his Buff.

And Azurite, the new Ninja, is right at the cutting edge.

On reflection, Skargremar’s a long way from elite, but he is decent.

Skargremar Empires and Puzzles – Hero of the Month June 23

My final thoughts:

Skargremar was fixing to be a Warrior prior to the last-minute Buff he received.

After all, -20% Miss is pretty wish-washy.

Especially when the likes of Drake Fong offer -35% Miss at Fast and Justice, -40% to all at Slow.

In fact, Drake is a great comparison Hero, too, because he deals 270% damage to 3, with a -35% chance to miss, and is Fast.

But now, Skargremar’s solidish hit, along with the Mana reduction, the Miss, his good Passives and nice Element Link (improved to 10% Mana Gen), well, they all come together to create a Hero who will provide some options on the battlefield.

Of course, he’s a long way from a top-tier monster. But he is usable for those with weaker rosters.

And he looks good for Rush events.

–This is not Balur.

At the end of the day, I believe the Devs at E&P are targeting the “Archangel” grade area for all HotM. So it was no surprise to see Skargremar receive this late reprieve, just nudging him out of the Warrior tier and into the bottom of the Archangels.

I wouldn’t prioritise him, but I wouldn’t write him off if you have nothing better.

Anyway, I’m off to work on the Soul Exchange countdown, but please feel free to leave your views on Skargremar in the comments below!

Hero Grade for Skargremar (Empires and Puzzles)

So for my grading, the question is:

Is this hero’s Special capable of/likely to change the outcome of a battle? No.

If not, do they still bring enough to the party to help defeat the deities? Says he lost his lunch money.

  1. He is very plain, not bad nor good. If he was fast he would be really interesting I think!

Btw I’d love seeing a Sneferu review from you, got this monster the other day, I know he is good already but I enjoy your reviews and would love to see one for him! I teamed him up with my Khepri and love both of those “cuties” so much haha (even more cause they both came to me with 4 summons when they first appeared)

  2. At least he looks cool. It is like the less intelligent brother of the January HOTM.

I am waiting for your analysis to confirm my choice for the SE. I really trust and weigh your judgment 🙂

  3. Love readying all your posts on here and use it as a guide as much as possible. I went ahead with the Soul Exchange yesterday and picked Gaillard as I already have strong 5* Reds and 5* Greens and I already have Algrafena so for me Gaillard was the best choice. Hope I made the right selection.

  4. All heroes that remove mana are relevant, even if this guy is less so than many of the other potentials.
But he is fairly available and for shallow rosters or new players he can definitely add some versatility

    Nice review as always!

  5. He doesn´t compare to Hurricane? LOL! There is only 1 hero in the game who compares and he is the Nr.1 most sought after hero these days…

Hotm don´t play the same game as the big guys.
So comparing him to other hotm and Fated summon choices is a great idea and I think it shows well where he stands: Somewhere in the middle. And the little details (passive and element link) make me like him more than average, so I think he may become the second hotm this year that I max (well technically the third as I am currently working on my second R&N)

  6. Thank you for the Review. My thoughts were similar to yours. Not bad, but not awesome. My budge seems to put me into the draws where I get the occassional hero of the month.

  7. I didn’t like him in beta, and many of us said so, yourself included.
Suggestions were made to make him at least a little bit more interesting, but we were ignored.

This last minute buff still doesn’t do him justice.
To be completely honest, I have very few reds as it is and I’m not sure I’d level him up, nevermind giving him a limit break…

  8. I wanted to leave this comment on green knight, although you closed the post. Grren knight is atmos with and extra bit. I didn’t see your comparison between these heroes
