Royal Match Team Battle: Guide & Tips for Winning
Royal Match Team Battles are the best way to get free Gold Coins (6,000 to be exact). It’s easily my favourite event but winning consistently can be a challenge.
Today, I’m going to explain how I maximise my exposure to all that free digital currency.
For the record, I’m a casual free-to-play player, currently on level 5559 and heading towards the Royal League.

OK, let’s crack on!

How Does the Team Battle Work? (Royal Match)
The Team Battle is a time-limited event (normally 3 days) where your Team competes with 19 other Teams in a race to complete as many levels as possible.
Technically, the goal is to collect Shields, but those are obtained by completing normal levels.
When the battle is over, each active member of the winning Team is awarded 6,000 coins.
Here’s the list of Team Battle rewards:
- 1st place: 6,000 Gold Coins
- 2nd place: 3,000 Gold Coins
- 3rd place: 2,000 Gold Coins
- 4th place: 1,500 Gold Coins
- 5th place: 1,000 Gold Coins
The Top 3 players on each Team also get rewards (Boosters):
- 1st place: X2 Light Balls
- 2nd place: X2 TNTs
- 3rd place: X2 Rockets
It’s worth noting that to participate you will need to have cleared level 23 and your Team needs to have at least 10 members.
Tips for Winning Team Battles in Royal Match
Four key elements will greatly improve your odds of winning the Royal Match Team Battle:
- A Strong & Active Team
- Playing Your Part (Levels, X2 Multiplier, and Giving Lives)
- Being Vocal in Chat (Encouraging your teammates)
- Getting an Early Start
#1 A Strong & Active Team
This seems simple enough, but it’s easy to let it slide, especially if you get comfortable on a failing Team.
You must be willing to leave a Team that doesn’t prioritise Team Battles.
I’ve done it myself many times, and will again if my current Team starts to slack off.
If your Team only has a few active Battle members, it may be time to move on.
#2 Playing Your Part
It takes a Team to win a Team Battle and that includes you.
That means making time to contribute and clearing a bunch of levels! I aim for at least 100 levels per Battle.
But there’s more:
You can earn additional Team Battle Shields by taking advantage of the Double (X2) multiplier and by completing Hard/Super Hard levels.
You can also help your teammates by giving them lives as requested.
Sidenote: To be eligible to receive rewards from Team Battle you must beat at least one level.
#3 Being Vocal in Chat
Cheering your Team on in the chat could motivate and encourage other members to crack on with the job at hand.
I’m not saying that you should do it for every Battle, but it’s worth a shot once in a while.
Some members might not realise that the Battle’s on, or realise how important it is.
All that said, being vocal in the chat is really down to you and your personal comfort level.
Maybe this is a job for the Team Leader?
#4 Getting an Early Start
In short, if your Team can get off the blocks early and put up some decent numbers, then you could get a head start and demoralize the competition at the same time.
A swift start could also give your Team room to breathe, now only needing to keep the gap between you and second place to win.
I don’t have the statistics, but in my experience, the Team at the top of the table after the first day, often finishes first (if not, within the top 3).
Royal Match: Getting the 6000 Coin Team Battle Jackpot
My final thoughts:
There are 20 Teams in a Team Battle and they all want to win. So, there’s no guarantee that you’ll come out on top.
But you can improve your chances.
The most important piece of the puzzle is your Team.
The maximum 6,000 coin reward for first place in the Team Battle is easily the best prize in Royal Match. And that’s why I’m always gunning for it.

Hey there OC,
I’ve fallen into the trap of being a member of a team that only has a relative handful of really active players. The team spirit is good but we tend not to do very well on Team Battles and we don’t always collect the gold chest on Team Treasure!
I am a co-leader and would like to clear out some of our slackers to create space for new blood – but it’s not all that easy to tell who to evict and I don’t want to kick out people who might just have joined or whatever.
Do you have any tips for team management? And if I decide that I need to transfer to another team, how can I tell which ones would be better than my current t team?
For my money, teamwork is such an important part of the game that the developers ought to make it easier to manage teams to optimise them!
Hi Tim, that’s a tough one. With all games there’s that difficulty of getting the team to put in a decent effort every time, but especially with Royal Match because there’s no specific goal beyond, grind.
I personally set a minimum threshold of 100 cups in whatever team event and like to see members that fall well below that level, say 0-10, removed from the alliance.
However, I am not a team-leader and will simply move on if I feel like the team is trying.
At the end of the day, the matchmaking in RM means you’re unlikely to be able to win every event, but if the team is at least putting in an effort you can live with that.
Sorry I can’t offer more than my thoughts, hopefully it all works out!
One more thing regarding removing underperformers: Of course, if they give forewarning of their absents then they should be given some grace.
And maybe let new players know before hand that your alliance has rules (say, “100 cups for Team Battle minimum”) and that underperformers will be removed.
That is, if you want them to take winning/participation more seriously.
