Turgruk Empires and Puzzles HotM April 23

Turgruk Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Turgruk is Empires and Puzzles’ April 2023 Hero of the Month (HotM) and at Very Fast, she’s already feeling all the heated frenzy of excitement that that speed brings.

But, is this super quick Sniper really worth the pixels required to populate her flimsy cape?

Well, let’s find out!

But first, let me offer you the use of my free Aether tool which should make finding the Aether Power of your new Hero that much easier.

Wanna help me? ~Just tell someone about my blog. Tell your mates that like Raiding and those that like Titan slaying. Tell the Season grinders, the Warring top scorers, the Mystic riders, and the Tower climbers. Heck, tell the voters, the seekers, the pet owners, and the tea-sipping dreamers. Most of all, tell the saints and the sinners, the reachers and the sitters, the overachievers and the laidback couldn’t give a f#*kers. Tell those on peddle stools and those in the trenches, all about my stories and my digital pages.

Turgruk and the 1-2 Quick Slap (Empires and Puzzles)

This may prove to be my shortest review ever.

Turgruk is really about one thing; her hit. The rest is utter fluff… Well, nearly.

All we need to know is:

  1. How strong is that first hit? And,
  2. How strong is the normal hit?

Coz I can write off the rest of this stuff here and now:

  1. Stacked increased damage by +5% (Pretty empty qualification, besides Titans)
  2. Dark allies get +5% chance to dodge Status Ailments for 4 turns (Beyond pointless)
  3. Ranger Talent (It’s a Talent and doesn’t significantly alter the value of the Hero)
  4. RESIST BLIND (most likely irrelevant in most battles)

There we have it. It all comes down to the strength of that Sniper’s slap at Very Fast Mana speed.

I welcome this relatively simple Hero, as opposed to last month’s Gilligan.

It’s nice.

Now I can use this space to write other things. Oh, how I regret the folly of my youth. Why did I not understand the true nature of time?

The ticking clock that beckons me from some far-off place.

Oh, if the stars could have told me which path I should have taken.

To avoid all the d#*kheads, I met along the way.

OldCynic.com – Turgruk Comparison Table

Comparing Turgruk (Empires & Puzzles)

The table really helps to illustrate where Turgruk stands in the grand scheme of things. And concerning damage output in isolation, she’s certainly a worthy bastion.

If you add the +50% damage that will come from her Passive to support her first slap, she looks great.

And yet again, if you add the potential of her Aether Power (+20% attack), she looks even better.

Then, as we scroll aside we see that her Attack is 836! Delightful.

However, as you’ll have no doubt noted, Turgruk is completely missing a utility. ~All of the others, for good or bad, offer some kind of specialism, whereas Turgruk, indeed, offers very little.

[Creating the table above allowed me to reflect on some of the more recent HotM and served as an excellent reminder of just how good Roughian & Nurgib is. At Fast, she hits for more than Turgruk, steals Mana, and systematically destroys Minions.]

Turgruk doing Turgruk (Empires and Puzzles)

It’s well known that I don’t like Snipers. -Not a personal grudge or anything; it’s just that Empires and Puzzles is stuffed full of Heroes who make single-target Heroes a little redundant.

Unless, of course, they’re Control Heroes like Malosi or a super-elite smash-and-grabber.

But if Malosi has taught me one thing, it’s just how cool it can be to fully charge a Hero with 3 ghosted tiles.

And that’s what excites me about Turgruk; that with a decent set of Troops, she’ll give you a 400% slap at Very Fast. ~Something that most F2P/C2P players can only dream about.

Her early hit might also provide a little edge, delivering that early-game Passive boost and the +5% Stacked damage.

Turgruk could really focus on obliterating the Tank and should have enough about her to significantly contribute to achieving that goal.

I’d love to stick her on my 3/2 Dark Team. She’s a straight-talking badass.

Turgruk Empires and Puzzles – Hero of the Month April 23

My final thoughts:

Turgruk is a solid Very Fast Hero and may be more coveted than some of the other Heroes on my table.

She hits hard and fast but doesn’t do much else.

I do like both Passives (Resist Blind and +50% damage on first hit) and I also like the Talent (25% chance to bypass), but they don’t do enough to make Turgruk elite.

As far as Very Fast Snipers go, Turgruk is very decent. But without some added complexity to her game, she’s gonna feel a little two-dimensional.

The question will always be (for me):

  • Does she do enough damage, fast enough, to justify a place on a Raid Team?

And I think she does, at least as an option for the more budgeted player base.

I also appreciate how much fun it will be to ghost 3 tiles to tip the balance of power, with her taking names and snapping back heads quicker than a Flyweight on Stimulants.

I have underplayed the +5% increased damage but it will be useful against Titans, where there is only one target and the entire team can jump on their back and get to laying the smackdown.

Anyway, yes for Titans, Raids, and Tournys. No for Defense and Auto-Staging.

All in all, it’s the speed I’ve gotta account for in my grading, and the weight of that hit…

Hero Grade for Turgruk (Empires and Puzzles)

So for my grading, the question is:

Is this hero’s Special capable of/likely to change the outcome of a battle? No.

If not, do they still bring enough to the party to help defeat the deities? Yes.

  1. I saw you called on the seekers. What do you want from me :P?

Good review, I think you captured the spirit of this hero. Although it would not have changed anything, I think you forgot to add Himeros for comparison.

    Have fun!

  2. To me she looks pretty good. Purple doesn’t have many legit snipers, and they do have their place in raids and wars especially in mono teams on offence. In my experience snipers are a way of compensating for the randomness of the board, where you end up charging a single enemy more than you intended to.

    1. Hey Yorka, I agree. I’m leaning more into Snipers and will hopefully have my R&N fully leveled soon. I wouldn’t mind Turgruk at all. Thanks for sharing.

      1. R&N is spectacular on offence. The initial hit is really hard and you get to pick who doesn’t fire. Mana drain can’t be cleansed like silence or mindless attack.

  3. Hi Old Cynic,
I hope to collect 2 of them to make a powerful and very fast attack. With Sergei (-54% dark elemental defense), 2 Turgruk could hurt in a 5-6 tiles. All this with a (very) fast healer, it can do the job I think 🙂

  4. I like any of the HotM that share something w/ the team, and I think the stack will work great on yellow titans.
Were I to get her, I’d pair her w/ Khonshu for raids and wars. I think she’d knock down a good amount on one target, and if Khonshu kills it afterward he gets the 50% mana bonus, leaving him one match from recharge.
And as always, great to see Malosi get some appreciation!

  5. Got Turgruk but she may be stucked in my roster without being levelled as I currently been using 2 Goretooth on my mono purple raid. But another great review OC. With all the OP heroes on events portal, SG should at least put some effort into making one or two great hotm once in a while.

  6. Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you’ll land among the stars…

I wanted a ninja and I got her. Under different circumstances, perhaps I would be happy. However it was not what I wanted and I feel sad.

On the other hand, it seems good for titans, I will probably level her up to 3.70, like I did with Frida. And this is thanks to your analysis, without it I would have probably abandoned her,

  7. Hey Old Cynic,

While the 450% damage on the first go at VF is pretty good, as you pointed out, the fact that Turgruk doesn’t do much else is disappointing. I’m not sure if she truly warrants the archangel ranking or not — perhaps warrior in my book. She just doesn’t do enough else to justify being able to take down the elites. Maybe, I’m underestimating her.

  8. Thanks for the review. For very fast, I think she will be a treat for f2p and maybe even c2p.
I like this hero and what she does even if it’s a little one dimensional. A very fast 400% slap is better than none.

  9. I have a question with Turgruk vs Meadow. Both are very fast snipers. I have limited materials. Do I run Turgruk up to 3/70 and leave her sit, or do I Max level Meadow 4/70 ? Both are sitting at the table and the cupboards are bare from maxing C. Sartana. Any and all comments are welcome. Thanks to Old Cynic for the info, the chart above is helpful.

  10. I was wondering which hero is better value for the materials. Turgruk or Meadow. C. Sartana took alot of my material. Do I just take Turgruk up and leave at 3/70 or do I take Meadow up to 4/70. Any thoughts, the cupboards pretty bare material wise.

Is Meadow a top shelf 4 star good for tourney.
    Thanks for any comments.
Keep up the good work Old Cynic.

  11. Hi, i would like to ask about the 5 % increase damage stack . It looks to be a different kind of buff hansel has. At 50% plus hansel’s special plus. Attack up, defense down, elemental defense down. Would you think she would be good verses a mythic titian team spamming hurricanes,

    1. Hey Orlandue, yes the Stack will max out at x10 so Mana boosts Vs titans will be beneficial. That said, there are better Heroes out there for increased damage but you gotta go with what you got!
