Improve Your Titan Score! (Empires & Puzzles Guide)
Guest Author: Dharion

Attacking a Titan in Empires & Puzzles has a lot in common with speed dating: You plan your approach to have the greatest impact in the shortest amount of time, put what you think are all the right elements in place, and just when you feel like you’re making progress, the timer goes off and you have to move on.
Then you maybe make some adjustments on the fly and do it again, and again, until the whole ordeal is over, and more often than not, you’re left with a gnawing feeling of existential dissatisfaction, a mild loathing of the human condition, and a damaged sense of self-worth.
But it doesn’t have to be as bad as all that (attacking Titans I mean; speed dating is just terrible no matter how you look at it): Regardless of your level, with the right Heroes, some fairly accessible Battle Items, and a few strategies, you can boost your Titan scores and impress your crewmates far more than you could ever impress someone on a three-minute “date”!

How To Improve Your Titan Score (Titan Heroes & Teams)
We’ll start with Elements:
There’s little point in attacking a Titan with anything but a mono team (i.e. all one colour) if you want to make your strikes really count – rainbow teams just don’t do as much damage.
You’ll want to match up the corresponding strong Element versus the Titan’s Element in the following manner:

- Fire Heroes vs Nature Titans
- Nature Heroes vs Ice Titans
- Ice Heroes vs Fire Titans
- Holy Heroes vs Dark Titans, and
- Dark Heroes vs Holy Titans
For lower-level players, a challenge with running mono lines for any task in E&P is that you probably won’t have enough levelled Troops of a single colour to fill out a team, so this can serve as a reminder to keep levelling those Troops as you progress!
In addition, while brute strength in the form of Team Power can get you pretty far in Raids, Wars, and so on, that number doesn’t matter so much when dealing with Titans because it’s not the direct hits from Heroes’ Special Skills that generally do them the most damage but the tiles (“shields” in E&P parlance) from normal attacks that do.
This is good news for newbies and mid-level players because it means that you don’t need a bunch of monster 5-Star Heroes at maximum level to beat up on a Titan.
In fact, I run 4-Stars on all my Titan Teams and even use a 3-Star on my most successful line (See examples below).
So, what kind of Heroes and Strategies are best to use against Titans?
Attack Up – Defense Down Titan Heroes (Empires & Puzzles Tips)
First, you can follow Old Cynic’s mantra: “Attack Up/Defense Down”.
There are plenty of old, familiar faces amongst the Classics that will fit this bill.
Common Heroes that boost Attack include:
- Boldtusk
- Kiril
- Rigard (Costume 1), and
- Melendor (Costume 2)
Common Heroes that drop Defense include:
- Ulmer
- Berden in (Costume 1)
- Tiburtus
- Grimm, and
- and Gormek

These are just examples of Heroes that most players have in their rosters, of course, and you can expect to find more suitable ones as you advance in the game.
For example, Ulmer isn’t an ideal Titan attacker because he’s an omnihitter, and single-target snipers are generally better for Titans, but Ulmer’s Defense down can be useful until something better comes along.
Heroes Who Boost Normal Attack (Titan Guide)
Second, you’ll also want to maximize tile damage, so look for normal-Attack boosters such as:

They’re all great for beefing up the tiles.
Elemental Damage or Reduced Defense (Titan Tips)
Third, there are less common Heroes that will give your Titan Teams a distinct edge.
Some Heroes, such as Toon-costumed Classics, will do extra damage to specific Elements (Toons are especially effective because they automatically ramp up their hits on the opposite Element, so a Toon Liana, for instance, will really clobber an Ice Titan with her Special).
Some Heroes create an Elemental reduction in Defense (like Almur, who inflicts -54% Defense against Nature).
Certain older Heroes of the Month will give teammates of their Element perks such as increased mana production or enhanced critical chance, which come in handy versus Titans; and if you’re lucky enough to draw a tile manipulator (i.e. one that makes tiles of a specific Element more lethal on attack), you can really do some damage.

Remember: When dealing with Titans, it’s mostly about the tiles!
Battle Items for High Titan Scores (Empires & Puzzles)
Next, Battle Items:
These are instrumental in scoring big against Titans, and the most useful are the ones that manipulate tiles or make them more powerful.
By far, the handiest are the Scrolls of Alteration because they create new tiles of the Element you want.
Unfortunately, they’re also the hardest to come by as they don’t often show up as common loot, and it’s rare to get enough materials (especially the Titan Skulls) to craft them in the Hunter’s Lodge.
I don’t recommend spending real money at all in Empires & Puzzles – it’s just too easy to fall into a vicious cycle – but if you’re going to anyway and want to improve your Titan Score, look for deals that offer ten or more Scrolls of Alteration for $5.00 USD or less.
Alternatives to the Scrolls are Tornados and Hurricanes, which both reshuffle the tiles and give your Heroes mana, and are easier to come by or craft.
Attack-boosting banners are also helpful, Titan Banners being the best, followed by Dragon and Bear Banners. I take in Minor Mana Potions and Antidotes as well.
Although I rarely use them due to a lack of space, Giant Harpoons are worth mentioning. They don’t do a lot of damage at 750, but they will increase the number of Titan Parts dropped if your alliance reaches one or more of the three attack tiers.

Titan Parts will allow you to craft Scrolls of Alteration and Titan Banners, so ultimately, the Harpoons can boost your scores as well.
Giant Harpoons will also reduce a Titan’s Attack by -20%, and if stunned (running three tiles into its Weak Point), will up the discomfort to -25% Attack and -30% Defense!

High Titan Score Strategy (Empires & Puzzles Guide)
Finally, some strategies once you’ve started your attack:
You’ll want to target the Titan’s Weak Point as much as possible, so getting the right tiles lined up under it multiple times in the battle is key.

Before you activate your Battle Items, try to get rid of lines of three or more “bad” tiles of the same colour (i.e. ones that aren’t of your Heroes’ Element) under the Weak Point because your Battle Items won’t replace them with “good” tiles until you do.
To do this, you can just match them or look for Power Shards in any unfavorable Element.
Here’s an example of what I mean:

I drop an Attack-up banner when I’ve got a good lineup going, then start to mana up my Heroes with tiles by shuffling the board.
Once at full mana, I hit first with Defense down, then Attack-up, then heavy snipers and tile manipulators, and then I alter the board again. Wash, rinse, repeat.
This Is My Most Successful Titan Team:*
I’ve hit over 400K with them more than once versus 7-to-9-Star Dark Titans (I’ve never attacked a new 15-star, and my best versus a 14-Star was, I think, around 150K, but that was a long time ago).

Vivica (Costume 1) goes first with her Defense down, G. Jackal follows with his, Toon Leonidas gives an Element-specific enhanced wallop, Eset extra-smacks Dark and beefs up the Holy tiles, and Bertulf ramps up the normal Attack.

Even without Scrolls of Alteration, anything from this team under 200K is a disappointment, and they rarely disappoint!
*Late Edit: During the process of writing this guide, I improved my top Titan score by over 50K. Surprisingly, it wasn’t with my Holy Team but with this one:

However, while the colour may have been different, the concept was the same with Costumed Triton and Grimsteel ramping up sticking power, and Perseus whittling away at the Titan’s immune system.

As you can see, they follow a similar formula to the one I’ve shared in this article.
And that’s the formula: Attack up, Defense down, work those tiles with enhanced normal Attacks, clobber the Weak Spot, and you’ll be the envy of your crew in no time (and it might even improve your sense of self-worth)!

I tend to use Darkfeather , Ludwig and then 3 heores that are strong against the titan. Usually 1 multiple slow hitter next to Ludwig, 1 defense down and 1 fast hitter.
Hey David, thanks for commenting! Mana boost is definitely a plus when it comes to titans as there’s so little time to work with, and Ludwig is among the best at that. I also like the use of Darkfeather’s Growth to beef up attack. I’m comparatively weak versus Holy Titans, so I’ll try experimenting with something similar when the next one comes up. Thanks for reading and for the tips!
Glad to hear the use of Darkfeather, I use him on every titan team and fire him first when everyone is mana’d up, then fire everyone else and the titan gets slapped repeatedly.
Thanks for chiming in, Steve! Darkfeather is great for lots of E&P tasks, including Titans. In addition to the 50% chance for extra attacks, he’s got the Growth factor, which is a huge bonus. My go-to-Growth guy vs Titans is Grimsteel but I wish I had more!
Steve…I love and use Darkfeather on all titans except purple. My Titan team is Darkfeather, C Domiti, Gastille, Toon Sartana, and Deadboot. Using Titan banner, hurricane, tornado, and scrolls of alteration I consistently hit over a million on 15 star titans with my best just over 1.5 million.
Hi OC
Another good trick is to avoid heroes with minions or any status that takes time in the end of each row, because you need to use every second of your attacks.
A big article as usual, thanks mate.
Hey Mig-El, thank you. Dharion did a great job with it. Thanks for the additional tip, I hope that lots of newer players read this because it contains some solid insight!
I have to disagree on minions to an extent. I use Cell on every titan except blue shielded ones. Each minion can add a minimum of 500 points multiplied by 15 per turn. Im usually in the top 3 in my alliance on titans. I’d never use someone with weaker minions unless they did mana control or something similar.
Hey Bruce, thanks for the comment! This is a very interesting point. The only minion spawner I use vs Titans is Mr Pengi (enhanced by costume boost, but I run the original). His minions alone don’t do much damage but the incremental effect of +130% damage on his special per minion he generates when at flank and with Fast Mana Speed I find very effective. The drawback that Mig-El points out above I do note in attacks the near the end of the battle, especially when I have some sweet Ice tiles lined up on the Weak Point, as Pengi’s special takes a while with nine minions stacked up and the battle timing out. Although it’s maybe a technicality, I’d be very interested to hear what you and others think of the pros and cons of running minion spawners vs Titans. The floor is open 😀!
I’m lucky enough to have the Guardian Elephant among my heroes, and I use it on all titans, except those that reflect yellow…. it permanently softens the defenses, as well as the attacks, of each beast, and also does a fair amount of damage, clearly more against purple ones 😀
Thanks for the comment, Tiziano! Yes, “stacking” attack up or defense down Heroes such as G. Elephant are a splendid option vs Titans because, as you point out, the effect lasts throughout the battle. I don’t have any to speak of, which is why I didn’t mention them among the examples in the post, so yours is a very valuable addition. Thanks for reading!
Big fan of your posts, both for it’s style and content!
Looks like I may have to check my roster for tile buffers! The biggest upgrade to my titan effectiveness has been Tarlak, for its normal attack boost – to the point of slotting him in for off-colour teams if I didn’t have a mono-colour equivalent…
My biggest gap – made obvious by titan mono teams – has been Troops. Even though I’ve been playing for YEARS, it’s only fairly recently that I’ve been able to field a single maxed of troop for each colour. Feeder troops seem hard to come by, training them is slow and needs lots of recruits…
It feels like I’be been missing something crucial and basic. Do you have any advice here?
Thanks for commenting, Master Yoda! Tarlak is indeed great vs Titans – I have him on my Nature Team. As to your Troop troubles, yes, it’s a slog to level them, and I don’t know of any workaround. I can say that, aside from the tiny handful of Legendary Troops I’ve managed to accumulate, I focus on leveling Magic Troops for the Mana boost. I also think it’s good to try and max 2- and 3-star troops if you haven’t already; that way, you can at least plug them into your Mono Teams until you have the resources to finish off higher ones, and they come in handy for Tournaments as well. Hope this helps and thanks again for checking in!
Thanks for the info it really help me get a higher score
Hey Vic, thanks for letting us know! Great to hear that the post has been of help to you!
Thank you for your advice! I’ll see what I can do to do better, I rarely score more than 200k.
What do you think about Wu Kong’s attack buff? I was surprised you didn’t mention it. It stacks with other attack buffs and he has good attack stats himself, useful against purple titans. I also use him against other colors except yellow. Is Leonidas’ special more worth it than Wu Kong’s help with the tiles?
Hi Quebin, thanks for writing! I must say that 200k is a nice score, so you’re definitely doing something right already 😀! As to Wu Kong, I know some players favour him but frankly I’m not a big fan due to the “miss” factor. A better option for Holy as I see it is Bertulf if you have him, or any regular-attack booster that doesn’t throw even more dumb luck into the mix than there already is in E&P 😀! I do like Toon Leonidas vs Dark due to the element-specific boosted attack. In any case, thanks for bringing up Wu Kong. Though not a favorite of mine, definitely an option for a lot of players!
Wu Kong permanently resides in my titan team against all colours. His attack bonus is tremendous. Miss factor is not a problem when you activate the diamond.
Excellent point, Eugene, and thanks very much for commenting! Although I’m not in the Wu Kong camp myself, I have great respect for those who are. In fact, within my own alliance, we’ve had a few friendly debates over the years between the Wu-Kongers and the non-Wu-Kongers 😀. As I’ve mentioned in this stream, it all comes down to playing style and preference, and there’s no right or wrong. Thanks again!
Wu Kong or not Wu Kong, that was the question. 🙂 I just like to see crazy numbers when I hit the weak point with 3 strong wukonged tiles, and the fact that all 3 can miss or all 3 can work, is another fun factor. Btw, there is a costume, where the accuracy penalty is only 25%.
I think you forgot to include Miki!
😀 Thanks YL, Miki is one of those great Titan teammates that I don’t happen to have in my roster but definitely deserves mention. I very much appreciate the addition!
I saw a pamphlet on E&P on Facebook that listed each element and a combination of characters and their placement against titans. I am curious is there an updated version of this pamphlet? I would send a pic to show you what I am talking about. But it doesn’t allow a screen shot.
Sorry Scott, the forum or facebook would be the best place to check for updates on those!
Sorry, but I tend to think the average lower FTP players benefit more from a 3/2 lineup, based on troop strength and depth, as well as 5 stcolrong heroes of 1 color.
I use 3 of the strong color and 2 of a neutral color. I get more useful hits that way. ( i also tendto get unlucky shield color generation).
Thanks for the comment FTR, and no need to apologize! There are as many approaches to E&P tasks as there are players, all valid, so I appreciate very much your take on the best strategies. As I’ve pointed out, Troop strength can be an obstacle to Mono attacks, and your workaround is a great suggestion for lower-level FTPers. Thanks for the contribution!
A long time ago, the biggest hits and best teams were always 4+1 teams, the 4 being the strong element, and the 1 being Wu Kong. Since then, it became Tarlak, Miki, Nauticus, Gazelle etc. and now it’s Gastille. But, the reason I decided to comment, is that you didn’t mention specials-based teams. Now that everyone and their mom (should) have Ludwig (since it was featured on Fated Summon), any hitters like Gestalt, Alfrike, Twoodles(?), 9-headed eagle or the green ghoul-like with the 5 hits with his morning-star, paired beside Ludwig will almost guarantee you >100k hits on 15* titans with minimal item consumption. Just use 4 blue tubes for Ludwig up front and go from there. Also, many still use Franz against titans no matter which color. The lucky ones might use Mortewitch instead, same effect. They are both very good at ramping up the total dmg delivered, no matter whether your team is specials- or tile-based. Otherwise, I really liked your article and I’m glad it got featured in the E&P news. I only wish we had these in 2017. Keep up the good work and all the best! BR, Funbunny.
Hey Funbunny, thanks for the excellent analysis and examples! The reason I don’t go into special-based teams in the post is because the target audience is low- to mid-level for most instructive guides of this type, and such players generally won’t have many Heroes with monster specials in their rosters yet (with perhaps the exception, as you point out, of Ludwig), much less will be likely to belong to an alliance that’s taking on the 15*s. That said, your comment is of great value precisely because I couldn’t delve into some of the fine details for veteran players like you in the post (oh, and Franz? Absolute must on my Nature Team!). As to the E&P News Feed, I’m also delighted that the post has been featured, for which we have OC to thank, as he’s done all the legwork – I’m beyond grateful to him for the opportunity to contribute to this wonderful body of work! Thanks again for your insight and kind words!
🎶Hello David my old friend 🎶lol
It’s me, Karthnard, one of your old fans (I meant ‘old’ in both senses of the word).
Well well well, look at you being featured on the game itself! Does this mean your little hiatus is over? Are you back??
Anyways, I’ll leave you to it. , was good to read your work again mate.
😁 Yes! I’m back. I’ve written quite a bit, some fun posts starting here.
It was great for them to feature me in the game itself; it was very cool!
Thanks for stopping by, again in 2025.
Thank you for the advice.
I don’t understand stacks and am not sure that I have a hero that has them.
I use Chester a lot because he shuts down the titan for a while and drains off his mana.
Hi PoohLogic, thanks for the comment! “Stacking” specials give Heroes that have them additional perks, usually for a maximum of 10 turns, once their special attack has been launched. In the case of Guardian Elephant – mentioned above by Tiziano – the target gets -9% attack and -6% defense every time it’s hit for up to 10 turns, for example, which is a plus vs Titans. Other Heroes such as Slayer Family members get mana and HP after each turn from their stacks once they’ve fired off a special. You’ll know if your Hero has this characteristic if you see “Stack (Max: 10)” in blue on the Hero card below their primary special attack description. Thanks again and hope this helps!
Гастиль, Людвиг, Фарра, Пейпперфлейм, Медея.
Максимум 890к против жёлтого. Но эта команда хорошо себя показывает на любых титанах. Возможно, если бы был Даркфиззер было бы ещё мощнее
Translated: Gastil, Ludwig, Pharah, Pepperflame, Medea.
Maximum 890k against yellow. But this team shows itself well on any titans. Perhaps if there was Darkfizzer it would be even more powerful
Wow Sergei, that’s an impressive score! Thanks for sharing how you did it!
Translated: Ого, Сергей, это впечатляющий результат! Спасибо, что поделились, как вы это сделали!
Happy to see you back writing again, OC! And featured in the new E & P news tab even, congrats!
😁 Thank you, Dantez!
Hi oc great article I’ve always used tarlak or sharkhai for attack up and then grim or phileas fogg for defence down mono teams are definitely the way forward i also like to use time stops or freeze to speed up attacks and avoid minion users for the same reason as it really is all about tiles my best titan hit to daye is 270k on a 15 star blue 🙂 but then i have some big hitting greens
Glad to hear you enjoyed the post, Mooingjuggernaut! I also run Shar’Khai and Tarlak and, as I mention in the guide, definitely prefer mono attack teams, so it sounds like we have similar approaches. However, I haven’t tried out Time Stops or Freezes, so I might just give that a go. Thanks for reading and for the tip!
While I appreciate the insight and tried using various mono teams ensuring it’s the correct color for fighting the current Titan, I’m finding that I can barely make a dent playing with a mono team versus a rainbow team. The rainbow team seems more effective, because then all the color shields are effective versus only one color. Not sure if I’m missing something else in this strategy, but it doesn’t seem to work for me.
