Rosanna and Gastille… Sorry! Shadow Portal (Empires & Puzzles)

Well, well, well.

It turns out the universe has worked its magic again.

See, I followed the logic, which was clear: I had to redeem the code to make sure that it would work before publishing it on my blog. This is concerning the Gems Giveaway post that I released the other day.

That was the only reason I redeemed it (scout’s honor).

The redemption was made to my new tiny account.

Of course, immediately after, I was working on the Gems Giveaway post, using the screenshots to create a guide.

About an hour and a half later, I returned to my account with the weight of all those who had missed out, sitting on my shoulders.

I saw “my” 500 Gems and took them into the Shadow Summon Portal.

I paused for a moment, worried about the repercussions of actually pulling a decent Hero.

How would I explain it to my readers?

“Never gonna happen”, came a response from my internal voice.

My internal voice has a terrible habit of being wrong in times like these.

…From one single spin, I pulled Rosanna and Gastille.

Rosanna and Gastille (Empires & Puzzles)

My first thought, upon pulling Rosanna and Gastille, was, “Fix!”.

Was this some kind of payment from E&P for a job well done?

No way. ~They’re a games company, not the Cartel.

Maybe the first person to redeem the code gets a digital guarantee of a 5-Star Hero?

No way. ~That would be too obvious. And why?

My cynical mind was racing through strings of logic in hopes of rationalising luck.

No matter.

The fact is that I have two great Heroes on a Newbie’s F2P account, and leveling them up will require a lot of patience.

I don’t have any options for synergising with Rosanna beyond Rigard, my only Healer.

Regardless, both Rosanna and Gastille will serve my new account well.

As their levels increase, so will the strength of my Defense. And soon enough, I’ll be moving from the Silver Raid Arena into the Gold.

Rosanna Thoughts (Empires & Puzzles)

Special Skills (Last Words): 1. Deals 500% damage to the target. 2. Has an 80% chance for additional hits on random enemies up to 4 times. Additional hits deal minor damage. 3. All hit targets get 20 Insanity every time they are hit. 4. Inflicts 50 Insanity on the caster.

Rosanna showing up at my new account is like The Rock showing up at your local gym.

It’s massive. And yes, she will be levelled, as soon as I can.

She is the first Insanity Hero I have owned on either account.

That said, it feels like she’s missing something compared to the other Insanity Heroes.

Let’s look at the other two featured Heroes at the Portal: Burton and Atwood.

Burton has that really useful Stoneskin, which looks particularly powerful. Satori has a similar effect, but his also incorporates nearby allies (a 55% chance to drop any damage to 1 for 4 turns).

Atwood inflicts Insanity on the target and nearby enemies, for a solid amount (45), which is handy. He also makes allies immune to damage from Status Ailments. Nice Passive, too.

Where Rosanna will shine is when finishing off a team, as the odds increase that one enemy will receive more than one hit.

Rosanna is very much like Anne, with additional hits occurring based on a percentage chance (80% to be precise).

The additional hits (up to four of them) are Minor damage, meaning half the damage of the first hit (so, 250%).

The card reads, “All hit targets get 20 Insanity every time they are hit”.

And finally, Rosanna inflicts Insanity on herself. -Although I really wish she wouldn’t.

Rosanna has ZERO Passives! What the hell?

As it stands, Rosanna is still a strong Hero (who needs managing), and her Stats are out of this world. We are truly getting to the point where one modern Hero is worth two from before The Great Flood (I hereby consider that phrase coined (by me!)).

Her main hit (500% at 1781) is substantial, to say the least. And four more hits at 250% should prove painful for the recipients.

However, her 20 Insanity inflictions are far from guaranteed. It’s pot luck. You really need her to hit your chosen target twice to improve the odds.

As mentioned above, Rosanna needs management. Her self-inflicted mania leaves her liable to wipe out her own team!

And of course, that sort of behaviour definitely has an impact on one’s perceived value.

Gastille Thoughts (Empires & Puzzles)

Special Skills (Elemental Corruption): 1. All allies get +150% normal attack for 4 turns. This effect can be active in addition to effects that alter attack in general. Normal attacks can have a total max. of +200% increased power while this effect is active. 2. All damage all enemies receive is increased by +55% for 4 turns.

Gastille is a superstar Hero. He’s doing so much, and his talent can be applied in numerous places.

Tarlak was buffing all allies for +100% normal attack.

Gastille is buffing them for +150%. Extraordinary.

He’s a walking Titan and Defense Killer.

Why? Because he also inflicts this Ailment on all enemies:

“All damage all enemies receive is increased by +55% for 4 turns”!

That’s more of a damage increase than Franz inflicts.

Even more… Gastille’s Passive buffs his Troops to deal extra damage against the weaker Element (+100%). And he receives -10% damage from them while on Defense.

AND he supplements a Dark team with Power Gems, meaning he helps a little with a Stacked Squad.

On top of all that, he’s a modern Hero with solid Power Stats.

An amazing Hero to own. I only wish they were both on my more established account, but I’m very grateful to have them at all.

I hope somebody else got lucky with those free Gems. I hope to have more to share soon.
