Mega Minions Are Kicking My A$$ [Empires & Puzzles]

Mega Minions Tips - Empires and Puzzles

Tell me I’m not the only one.

I know loads of you are gonna have Mega Minions and might feel protective over them, and I understand!

You likely paid good money to get them.

I’m just saying, from the other side of the whooping, it’s demoralising.

You can build a team to defeat most other Heroes in Empires & Puzzles, maybe even close the OP Hero gap a little, but then comes this undersized henchman, hitting your team with all the might of Thor’s hammer.

And there’s nothing you can do about it besides embrace the abyss.

OK, there are a couple of options, but the higher the level of opposition, the less they work.

Super Heroes and their Mega Minions (Empires & Puzzles)

I’m always wary about discussing OP Heroes because I know that in most cases, those who have them paid for them.

I don’t want E&P to nerf some Heroes on my say-so. At the same time, I want to be able to discuss when a group of Heroes are rope-a-doping my face.

I’m not telling you anything you didn’t already know.

At the moment, Lord Loki (Costumed, I’ll have you know: following the Outfitter visit), is my best option against a Mega Minion Hero.

In that, he can take some of their powers and make them his own.

I have a running joke with myself that Lord Loki is my first Mega Minion Hero. It’s not that funny, but that’s what’s great about internal dialogue; you don’t have to impress anybody.

He also happens to be my best option against a bunch of elite Heroes.

But I only have one of him! …and the better I’m doing, the more Mega Minions I have to face.

Lord Loki can’t keep up, even with Ludwig sitting beside him.

Even if he could, he’s got nowhere to put all the f*&king Mega Minions he’s trying to spawn!

Just this morning, as I entered the 4-Star Tournament, Greg’s Mega Minion immediately got to acting inappropriately, especially for what was meant to be a social gathering.

Oh, and Sludgus. Mustn’t forget her.

If you cause a little too much damage to her massive HP, she’ll summon a 50% HP Mega Minion!

And when you do finally manage to off her, she’ll drop Mega Minions on her surviving allies!

Two incredible Passives that Lord Loki can’t copy.

I don’t know, guys. What are you supposed to do with a Mega Minion when you find one?

Mega Minion Tips, Help, and Guidance

My final thoughts:

The Top 100 is stuffed to the brim with Mega Minions.

Fergus is one of the most popular.

Fergus - Empires and Puzzles Small Card

Mega Minions provide huge pseudo-healing and often, tremendous secondary powers. It’s like summoning a 4-Star Hero into battle.

…hold up. Summoning your favourite 4- or 3-Star Hero into battle with you.

REMEMBER YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST, for when E&P decides to roll it out.

I want royalties!

But yes, Mega Minions provide pseudo-healing, a massive attack, secondary powers, and most importantly, time.

They give the caster time to charge their mana again.

In reality, here’s how I try to deal with Mega Minions:

  1. Lord Loki to copy them
  2. Attack with Special Skills before they fire off (harder, the better the quality of the opponent)
  3. Tiles… Tiles into the side of their torso, with my meanest curse words flung in for good measure

I don’t have any dedicated, regular Minion killers either, so that’s not an option.

I have a few questions for you, if you’re willing to help:

  1. How do you deal with Mega Minion Heroes?
  2. How do you deal with multiple Mega Minion Heroes in the same lineup?
  3. Who is the trickiest Mega Minion Hero to deal with?

  1. I’ve found that greed and lasting greed work wonders vs mega minion creators… and even better against sludgus

  2. Toons. Yes, Greg can be a pain. Especially if you’re facing him on both wings. In most 4* tourneys, though (especially bloody), I run 3x Toon Caedmon. With extra damage against ice, Greg usually goes down really fast.

Another good thing about toons is that they’ve got those passives: 75% resist against ailments (like mega minion bleed and Bearnie’s painting insanity) and 75% resist against mana reductions (howdy, Fergus). I got lucky in the Chamber last year, so I can field two all-toon 5* teams in war. They really tend to come in handy.

  3. The hard counters are only just being introduced, so most f2p/c2p players probably don’t have them yet: mega fiends replace mega minions outright, and the magic carpet passive disables the mega minions the same way that the lunar new year family passive disables regular minions.

As I don’t have either, I settle for mana control – mana steal, mana drain, mindless attack, mindless heal, and the one that does damage when the mana bar is filled.

    1. Yep, you’re right. I saw Auricarc in beta/now released, a Moth who outright stole all minions or a Mega Minion from the target (at Fast). Very handy! Hopefully, I pull one of the inevitable counters soon.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and strategy, Kaminton!

  4. I hate nerfing because it has ruined heroes in the past and they almost never go back and remove the nerf when they are not OP anymore.

    1. I agree. That’s why I’m wary about discussing it. It’s a matter of balance for the devs; their choice going in.

From here, it’s a matter of dealing with MMs as they are. Even if they were to nerf MMs, it would likely have a greater impact on the top players than the mid/low level players. Mid/Low players still won’t be able to beat top teams but it would create a momentary shuffle at the top to define the new meta.

As Kaminton says, we’ll likely see more counters introduced.

      Thanks for sharing, Starman!

  5. I only have Gerg of the mega minion heroes. I do decently against them using my one hero that bypasses minions, Bonzo (who also shuts down the dancers), or Lemonwood, who can overwhelm with his pincushion act. I even somehow got two of him.

  6. I’ve just pulled Auricarc. Can’t wait to level him up. A fast 5* who steals mega minions. Should help some.

  7. Silverpaw and the aforementioned Beta Moth that also steals mega minions, Andvari, Ogima, etc… all help. More recently, the Magic Carpet family heroes, like Naeem, that have a passive that reduces Mega Minions health by -75% is going to be another paradigm shift in the game, all but neutering the heroes that rely on their Mega Minion strength for relevance.

All that being said, I cringe when I see an entire team of Garrison Guards, because your team gets absolutely pummeled before you can get enough mana to try to mount an attack.

  8. Good evening mister cynic it’s been a while since scrolling through tour posts and the mega minions at least for me have changed the way I play i know field three heros that hit all and like freight trains and although they are slow seem to work extremely well I am fortunate to have two dwarfs that have innate resistance and I also have a toon tank justice who I believe to be possibly the best tank around huge health and a constant heal of ten percent for her and nearby means she absorbs considerable punishment sny how that’s my formula 3 heros that have slow mana and hit all as they tend to hit the hardest and tqo with fast mana to hit specific targets
Ps on my last post I said I was going to number 1 in the world rankings and am regularly now in the top 100 yours keep up the good work sir your efforts are always appreciated.

    The mighty mooing juggernaut

    1. Mooingjuggernaut!!! I’m so sorry for not responding to this comment.

Mega Minions are still a problem for me. I employ big hitters to get through, but as you know, it doesn’t always work. Of course, destroying the enemy before they trigger MMs is nice as well.

Top 100 in today’s game is a great achievement! Congrats!

Thank you for the support, I appreciate it.

  9. Mega minions are tough. I use costume Medea to kill existing mega minion and/or slow down the next from coming, then slap on a Iga fiend, then pile on tile damage to get the most from Costume Medea hit. Lucky enough to get both heroes from ninja and Mysteries of the deep portals, very happy for a f2p, but I do watch a lot of ads, or at least play the ads while I put phone down to do something better, like the dishwasher.

    1. 😄 Very cool for a F2P. I’ve been F2P since early 2023 and I find it’s not just the Hero pulling that can be tough, but also finding the mats to level up and test your Heroes at the highest level. (As that’s where they often need to be nowadays with all the HP out there).

Anyway, I digress. Thanks for stopping by, Kristomaji.

      Good luck!
