Master Lepus Vs. Costumed ML (Empires and Puzzles) Review
Master Lepus is an Empires and Puzzles powerhouse who just got hold of his own costume, possibly making him the best hitter in the game.

Master Lepus’ Old Cynic Review
There’s no getting around it, I’ve been dissing Master Lepus for a while now, and I’m starting to feel guilty about it.
I mean, he’s just doing his best, like we all are.
It’s time to make amends.
Let’s stop the bickering and instead come together to celebrate the takeover of Costumed Master Lepus, -who is surely now the best Pound-4-Pound hitter in Empires and Puzzles?
Master Lepus Vs Costumed Master Lepus (Empires and Puzzles)
Let’s face ’em off: Master Lepus Vs. his Ego
Hero | Mana Speed | Strike | Ailment | Class |
Master Lepus | Fast (8 tiles) | Deals 410% damage to the target and minor damage to nearby enemies | Caster gets -20% defense for 3 turns | Druid |
Costumed Master Lepus | Fast (8 tiles) | Deals 280% damage to all enemies | Caster gets -24% mana generation for 4 turns | Barbarian |
For me, Costumed Master Lepus is the clear winner here.
280% damage to all, for a Fast charge, sets a new precedent, which I hope to illustrate a little later on.
As for his Class, Druid gives you a chance to summon a Thorn Minion, while Barbarian gives you a chance to apply bleeding from any attack.
Let’s move on and compare their ailments.
Lifelong Ailments (Master Lepus Vs. Costume)
We’re going to have to touch on… Mmmm… No, Talk about, their ailments at some point, so may as well be now.
-20% defense for 3 turns is a serious hazard for the original Master Lepus, who was already suffering from extremely low health.
In my opinion, it’s just too much of a burden for him to bear.
But -24% mana for 4 turns (his Costume), that I can work with. Don’t get me wrong, it’s far from ideal… but “beggars and choosers are two different things”, as the old-timers used to say.
Optimistically, I’d suggest there are also a few things we can do to mitigate it, stuff like:
- Troops
- Mana or Status Effect protections from other Heroes (Poseidon, Emilio, Garnet, Vanda, and many more)
- Mana Boosting (Ludwig and Xnolphod are the big names)
- Pep talks
While I haven’t tested these methods, they should work. And over on the E&P forum, the contributors there have it all figured out. In fact, I highly recommend perusing this post.
The Springvale family have a long history of being plagued by misfortune, but in this case (with Costumed ML), there’s a good chance, and good reason, to work around the inconvenience.

Costumed Master Lepus is the main focus of this table, but the original is included for reference.
In my research, I couldn’t find another Hero who comes anywhere close to hitting all enemies for as much (at Fast). Can you?
Let me know in the comments below!
Master Lepus’ Hero Grade (Empires and Puzzles)
My final thoughts:
I happen to think Costumed Master Lepus is an incredible Hero… a real top-of-the-line damage dealer.
His original version hit for 410% damage to the target and minor damage to nearby enemies, and that was top-drawer stuff.
However, his ailment (reduced Defense) really made him feel squashy.
Costumed Master Lepus has no such ailment, and his health/defense looks perfectly reasonable.
And let’s not forget about that Costume Bonus:
- Attack +3%
- Defense +3%
- Health +6%
- Mana +1%
Even if you can’t mitigate his mana ailment at all, he’s still a ridiculously good Hero to own.
So for my grading, the question is:
Is this Hero’s Special capable of/likely to change the outcome of a battle?
Yes.
If not, do they still bring enough to the party to help defeat the deities?
N/a.
Old Cynic’s Hero Grade: Deity
I’ve graded the original version of Master Lepus, a Warrior, -which might seem a bit harsh. But, it’s really about how you get the most out of him. He can definitely make a strong case to be considered an Archangel.

Awesome and entertaining read as always. Just edit Odin from nature shields to holy shields. I’m so stoked about getting ML costume. I wanted regular ML for so long so now I get both!!! Thanks cynic for the read. I always look forward to them!
Great catch Dez, it’s so easy to miss something with these things. Thanks for the heads up, and congrats 🥳 on an awesome pull!
With Master Lepus costume being so awesome and yet easily accessible due to the long duration of pulls. I bet a lot of people will have him and he would be very dangerous in defence. It this gonna be like krampus costume 2.0?
Hey MIB! Personally I can’t see it. I can’t imagine SG just went through the Krampus situation to then go on to nerf Master Lepus.
Also, they don’t tend to nerf hitters, as time will take care of that.
imv, if they’re gonna nerf anyone, it’s likely to be Mr. Pengi, -due to all the new minion gods appearing.
Anyway, just my view, might be wrong but if I am, it means real problems for the game as ML was clearly designed to make this portal look attractive.
If you’re reading this some time in the future, after Master Lepus was nerfed, please reply to this comment with, “Whatzzz Up!”
Hahaha. Sure do. Im just too traumatized by what happened to Krampus costume. Got him +20 and lb just for it to be destroyed later by SG and i have to spent more resources to re-emblem him as the path were all wrong when they changed his class.
Im planning on doing major pulls for kilhare and ML costume but also afraid as some YouTubers said they have voiced out their concern of ML costume being too OP at beta but SG wouldn’t listen and they said its kinda like similar situation with Krampus costume before.
Hey MIB, well you know I can’t offer guarantees, it’s just my opinion. And I could be wrong.
I won’t talk about your planned pulls (because that’s your business-but good luck!), but in general, if we’re worried about nerfs with every new portal, what’s the point?
That’s a problem for E&P if it continues.
Anyway, I don’t expect a nerf here, nor any big nerfs any time soon. We may get slight rebalances, but not much imv.
But we shall see!
Just pulled ML & costume. Super excited based on your review. Great stuff! Will subscribe.
Thanks MRG and congrats! The numbers don’t lie, he’s a great hero.
Hulda replaces costume ML -24 mana with undispellable +24 and Killhare’s -20 def down with +54 def. Don’t think it’s a coincidence they’re available at the same time. Congrats to those who got him!
Wow, didn’t even consider this…
Btw I tested Hulda (aka Peppa Pig) with Killhare and regular ML. Don’t have the costumes. Ailments replaced with +54 def. Obviously it would have to be done evey time they fire their special but as strong as they are once might be enough.
Thanks for the info Fledger!
Lewena now deals 260% to all at fast mana speed, without drawbacks! Plus the talent blocking, plus ranger’s pierce!
😁 … That didn’t take long, -they’re already after his crown.
And yes, without the drawbacks and a nice little Status Effect… oh, and plus the ranger…
I knew I shouldn’t have tried to make a means with ML… He was always gonna let me down 😄
Howdy Old Cynic!
I got costume Master Lepus from HA10 yesterday and I am real pleased with that retrain.
Plant a tree, i.e. Horghall = and reap Costumed Master Lepus! Win win!
As for the inbuilt ailments the Springvale heroes have I don’t see it as a problem since I do have Ptolemy that will block Master Lepus’ negative ailment.
I guess for the foreseeable future the one time Pharoah and the bunny are going to be regular partners.
Congrats Cornelius, I’d have loved to pick him up after our first failed attempt at friendship. I’ll restart HA10 inspired by this. Thanks for sharing!
Feel so disappointed! I received M.L. with costume, but he only hits 245 to all now, far away from 410… 🙁 SO not sure if I should keep him…
ML with Costume is still very good. He’s still decent without Costume.
