Khepri Review, Empires and Puzzles (Season 5)

Khepri Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Khepri just emerged from the Empires and Puzzles Season 5 (Dynasty of Dunes) portal. He’s a total Fiend monster who’s gunning for Elizabeth’s crown, so let’s find out who’s better.

Before we start, please consider sharing a link to this post with your alliance or on social media. It really does help.

How Good is Khepri? (Empires and Puzzles)

As soon as I saw Khepri, I wanted to measure him up, back to back, with Elizabeth.

I know Lizzie hits all enemies, while he only targets 3, but both are Average, and she’s who immediately came to mind.

Khepri has a great build and is like this low-key powerhouse, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, let’s get Lizzie up (may as well call in Hannah, too):

HeroMana SpeedStrikeFiend AfflictionFiend DamageHealing Absorbed by Fiend
Khepri
Average (10 tiles)Deals 275% damage to the target and nearbyN/a – Fiend explodes after 3 turns dealing 600 damage to target and minor to nearby38%30%
ElizabethAverage (10 tiles)Deals 175% damage to all-24% mana generation43%28%
HannahFast (8 tiles)Deals 215% damage to the target and nearby-20% attack43%20%

On the face of it, Khepri actually looks reasonably balanced. I mean, 275% to 3 targets will sting, but you won’t need an ambulance.

As for the fiends, as you can see, they actually do less damage than Elizabeth’s Fiends. -And, they don’t absorb much more healing either.

And, the Exploding Fiend Damage?

😜

I confess! He’s a monster! A monster!

This is a whammy!

-These exploding fiends could inflict a further 3600 damage!

Here’s the keywording:

  • ‘…dealing 600 damage to the target and minor to nearby…’

So, that’s another 300 damage to nearby enemies.

That means, if you target the Tank and Flanks with his Special, settling a tubby timebomb onto their laps, and they fail to remove them in 3 turns, here’s what happens:

And, that’s not including the 275% damage he’s already dealt, or the 3 hits the fiends would’ve taken in the build-up (38% each).

I’m telling you, these fiends don’t make good pets.

Is Khepri worth Levelling? (Empires and Puzzles)

Yes, Khepri is one of the most aggressive fiend summoners we’ve seen.

His Fiends are gonna add a real sense of urgency to proceedings, and I think it’s great.

Before we get to the rest of his build, let’s compare him with a full field:

Khepri looks strong in this company. And at Average, he may be firing off more than once.

But, there’s even more going on here. -Khepri’s got some extra tricks I wanna show you.

Did anyone actually close their eyes? If so, why?

Khepri‘s Passive Skills (Empires and Puzzles)

Passive Skills are becoming more and more prominent of late, and the trend continues with all the new Season 5 heroes.

Khepri benefits from 2 really nice additional skills, -a 60% chance of…

  1. Dealing 70% damage to all enemies, and
  2. inflicting -24% mana generation for 3 turns (to all enemies).

That -24% mana generation is massive, for a passive.

And, a 60% chance? Those are fantastic odds.

And what about that additional 70% damage… On top of the 275% he already does, and the fiends slapping, and the explosions?

…all that damage, and he’s Ranger Class (chance to bypass defensive buffs).

Oh, plus he’s got a cool family bonus:

  • Moon Family 1/2: 1. 50%/75% chance to cast -24% defense for 2 turns and 196 Water damage over 2 turns on an enemy who deals Special damage to this hero. 2. If enemy Special defeats this hero, the chance increases to 75%/100%.

So even in death, he adds value to his team, possibly inflicting -24% defense and more damage on his departure.

Khepri Review (Empires and Puzzles)

My final thoughts:

We’ve got a lot of new heroes to look forward to with Season 5, but I had to satisfy my curiosity with Khepri.

His Fiends are gonna be trouble, and he’ll have you crossing your fingers and hoping his Passives don’t go off.

All the while, Esme’s been waiting in the wings, hoping her day would come, praying for just one moment to count…

… well, it’s here… it’s here.

Hero Grade for Khepri (Empires and Puzzles)

So for my grading, the question is:

Is this hero’s Special capable of/likely to change the outcome of a battle? Yes.

If not, do they still bring enough to the party to help defeat the deities? N/a.

    1. He’s a must have for events. Surround him with healers and counterattacks and events are a piece of cake.

  1. OK, so I’ve got a fully leveled Khepri…there’s been some really dumb comments degrading him in the community that made me doubt my decision at first. But let me clear the air: this guy is a monster! At first I didn’t believe the chart you did on the bomb damage, but it is entirely accurate. I consistently get over 3000 damage out if him on average speed. I don’t know how anyone wouldn’t want that. Throw in the diversity factor with his fiends and passives…it’s like mana reduction too, are you kidding? This dude is choice!

  2. Ayyyy Old Cynic…. Maybe you can make a new post in regards to the major buff being given to s5, 3 kingdoms and Gargoyles??

    1. Hey MIB, it took me ages updating all these heroes and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna have to rewrite a review! 😭 I hate large scale buffing. As for the buffs, wow, I didn’t know the Gargoyles needed it, they seem pretty OP to me! I’ve been a little busy lately but I might try to do something, tho can’t make any promises!

      1. Gargoyles are the one that shouldn’t have any more buff. Extra turn on stoneskin is ridiculous. Goseck already deadly as he is. I am happy as I have Gaillard though. Suddenly he become from okay sniper to top drawer sniper. Lol
Whatever you publish, I’ll be sure to read and share it with my alliance. That july hotm post made us all laugh. Thanks Old Cynic!!

  3. Who would you level up first Knonshu or Khepri? Mainly for wars and Titans?

  4. I just came across a 4/85 full emblemed Khepri and his stats were 991 power 966 attack 934 Defense and 1759 health. I would probably go defense and health to keep him alive longer to fire his special.

    1. You’re right, defense and health is the way to go. For Khepri, it’s not about the attack percentage, but the bombs are what you want going off. So you want him alive as long as he can.

  5. So i got this guy as my first ever dark legendary and man hes the first fiend summoner i have ever used. Since i have merlin almost maxxed out i go back and forth between the two while i level khepri but so far i like him after him i got hotm arfi but im sorry to say i have kinda ignored him for khepri and some epics…..and my second treevil, in wars and such treevil is just too useful to ignore

  6. Just pulled him today….Not the one I really wanted but I was sort of eyeing him after reading your review last week. His damage, passives, family bonus are going to be menace to deal with. He has messed me up a few times already in Raids. Currently working on Levelling up Diaochan….likely working on Khepri next.

  7. Just got this one and now it’s decision time. In the last month I’ve been really lucky and it keeps giving me dark legendary hero’s. I have alfrike, costumed freya, costumed seshat, and now khepri. I know it’s all dependant on my other hero’s, but what order would you recommend out of those hero’s?

    1. Hello, it’s a tough choice, they’re all good. I had to reword this coz I just realized it’s Costumed Freya. Yes, she would be a great starting point. Check out my Best Tanks countdown.

I really like Khepri and think he could be utilized immediately.

Alfrike is the highest-graded hero among them, but her speed will mean she’s not as useful across the game. She’s soo powerful that if she fires off there’s a great chance you’ll win the battle. She’s also next level in Rush-Anything. So, she could be the wildcard here.

Anyway, as you know this is just my personal opinion and not advice. So please get opinions from your alliance and other sources, too.

      Thanks for stopping by!

      1. I’ve decided to finish alfrike then kherpi, then go from there. I’m working on my specialized lines these days and your blogs are a huge help as always. Currently have Ludwig, Diaochan, Lu Bu, and Hannah maxed level/talent grid. Trying to put together the perfect dark line up for every situation. Please keep with your amazing reviews, they are a huge help!

        1. I have both alfrike and Khepri. Alfrike is only better as a wing. Khepri is extremely under rated in my opinion.

  8. Hmm I got a second Khepri, any reason not to level up two. I mean two chances of 24% mana at 60% chance seems better than one. Then those 6 bombs harder to get rid of

    1. I agree with you when you say he’s underrated. Personally, I would. But it’s all about your roster and needs. Can you see yourself running 2 in a Raid? Or will the extra be useful for Tourneys or War?

      Thanks for visiting!
