Hero Coach: Who To Choose (Empires & Puzzles)

My Hero Coach Strategy - Who To Choose (Empires and Puzzles Pin)

Hero Coach is now live in Empires & Puzzles, and I thought it might be useful to share my thinking and strategy for choosing which Hero to Coach.

I’m sure we’ve all noticed an interesting fact about the Hero Coach. And I have no idea why I didn’t think about it before…

Hero Coach: CHEAP ALPHA AETHERS!!!

I saw a post on Reddit this morning about how cheap it was to effectively double limit-break a Hero with the Hero Coach. I was surprised that I hadn’t given it much thought before.

My Hero Coach Guide was written when Hero Coach was in Beta, and I was taking in how it worked, not so much about where I could benefit.

But yes, thank you Redditors for highlighting really cheap ALPHA AETHERS!!!

What do I mean?

If you’re like me, with a mid-tier roster, you might have many Heroes who have received the first limit-break but not the second.

Because the second limit-break requires Alpha Aethers, which are hard to come by without spending.

Just look at Amethyst:

I’d need 7 more Alpha Aethers to ascend her.

But not with the Hero Coach… Now I only need 18 Gems!

Hell, the Path of Valor Pass only gives you 2 Alphas per cycle.

The Path of Giants Pass, only 5.

(Of course, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t Coach a completely unlevelled Hero. You’d still benefit from the Alphas!)

Which Hero To Coach? (Empires & Puzzles)

Here were my options:

My Options - What Hero For Hero Coaching

The race was between Amethyst and Roughian & Nurgib.

Both of these Heroes are prevalent in my Raid Team rotations. Both have the capacity to play a key role.

I don’t need Heroes to complete PvE, as I have an extensive roster. What I need are Heroes to help improve my PvP abilities.

And with that in mind, it was between these two.

Now, if I had levelled R&N, I would improve her sniping strength and general last-ability, but I stood to gain more by levelling Amethyst.

Amethyst has received Ninja family buffs in the past, and while nowhere near the current best Heroes in the game, she does possess a key Skill that can help against some of the best Healers.

~Amethyst will slap all enemies and then drop a Fiend on them. And the Fiend suppresses their ability to heal (as they’ll have to heal away the Fiend first).

Of the Heroes I own who are over 700 days old, she is the one who got the nod.

I primarily Stack Dark (Purple) in Raids, so this works for me.

Ultimately, it was to increase my PvP chances by giving her a stat buff.

PS. Krampus was considered, but I just find Ludwig more useful in today’s game.

Empires and Puzzles: Who To Pick (Hero Coach)

My final thoughts:

Amethyst Hero Card - Empires and Puzzles

My tip would be to level the most effective Hero you have.

Of course, some players may have to take a gamble if they think, say, Lady of the Lake is their best overall Hero within the selection pool, when they haven’t had a chance to test her (…as she’s unlevelled).

I do have a good post about choosing who to level up generally, which might also help here.

Think about what you stand to gain by Coaching them:

  • Is it to bring the Hero into the Raid/Defense fold?
  • To help you complete Maps and Quests?
  • Or to get some cheeky cheap Alphas?

The key question is, how do you plan to use them?

Whoever you choose, I hope you have fun with them!

  1. Hi Old Cynic , I am a long time follower and first time responder. I choose Queen Guowang to coach and boy am I proud and content. The Hero coach was perfect timing and I will be anxious to wait for the next costume chamber to add Heimdall costume. Every time I contemplate leaving, they suck me back in. Thanks for the years of great advice. Happy gaming.

    1. Thank you, Rokkbiter. It’s very much appreciated.

‘Every time I contemplate leaving, they suck me back in.’ ~ 😄 The Hero Coach is a pretty cool event. They should run it weekly!

      Thanks again.

  2. I chose Ma’at because I picked her with costume from the last Soul Exchange. Her stats with costume bonuses are competitive to current heroes. Also, with all the blue tanks in wars these days, a “hit all” green hero who is fast and gives defense down will be very useful. This was the best choice for me. There is no wrong choice though. Have fun with this new feature everyone!

  3. Long time follower. I’m Erik from the forums and Frog Prince in game. I went with Ludwig. I suffered under his reign of terror for so long, pre-goblin era, and decided to 1-shot max him out. He’s far from what he used to be, but with today’s heroes like Fergus and Bernadette, the mana boost he gives them is pretty fierce and can provide a certain level of new relevance in my opinion. He’s also in the current Fated Summon.

  4. I chose to train Nemesis. She was completely unleveled but she has minion suppression. 500% hit on first charge and 680% on the 3rd. I’ve came up against too many minion makers!

  5. I maxed Eloise. Her minion hate and hit all ability is very useful. Also, she was pristine, and the joy of taking her from zero to max was far more satisfying than some of my other options, many of whom lacked only limit breaking. Now to emblem her and her in into war and PvP action!
