Grace is Empires and Puzzles‘ September 2022 Hero Of The Month (HotM), and while her speciality is niche, it might be really helpful for some players with limited rosters.
On top of that, she’s a hitter.
Not a Season 5 OP-type hitter, but seriously respectable nonetheless.
Caveat: This post contains gameplay speculation and personal opinion. It may also contain comedy and sarcasm. It is not advice and is solely for entertainment and informational purposes.
Grace’s Stats and Special Skills (Hero Of The Month)
Key Facts: Nature (Green), Fast, Druid, Legends 2022 (Not activated yet)
Special Skills (Malison of the Wildlands): 1. Deals 285% damage to the target and nearby enemies. 2. The target and nearby cannot cast any new Taunt Status Effects for 3 turns. 3. Target and nearby enemies get -34% Defense against Special Skills for 3 turns. 4. [Element Link] All Nature allies are immune to new Fiends for 4 turns.
Passive: 1. Resist Burn damage 2. Gets a 10% Mana increase every time an enemy receives a Taunt Status Effect
Talent: COMPANION ~ +15% chance to summon a Thorn Minion after receiving any damage. The effect is applied at the end of the turn.
How Good is Grace? (Empires and Puzzles)
Grace is a solid HotM who tries to hit like a superstar.
She’s an absolute Taunt Specialist who also *lowers Defense against Special Skills for 3-turns.
*Not a bad trick if you happen to have a super OP hitter on retainer.
It’s true; the Taunt Control is a little late to the party (because it’s not as favoured as it once was). But it’s still a valuable Skill to own.
Grace also gives Nature heroes Fiend protection for 4 turns, which could be extended to all heroes when the new 2022 HotM Family Bonus comes online (with one other 2022 HotM in the line-up).
And so, if you’re F2P/C2P, or in need of a decent hero for Wars or Stacking, Grace shouldn’t be overlooked.
Grace’s Specialism (Special Skills)
Some Heroes of the Month are assigned a rather pointless Specialism.
Take Reuben for example; his expertise is in reducing damage from Ailments for 4 turns.
Then there’s Klaern, who *may* have been shoved out the door while everyone was rushing off for their summer holidays.
He found himself bare-chested and empty-handed, flexing a Season 1 Special like it was 1999.
His competency is in Water Distribution and Recycling and isn’t really of much use to anybody.
But for Grace…
Grace has a Specialism, nay, a doctorate in Taunt Repression.
I love the fact that she wants to stop all these Cliquey f#*kers with their ‘designated spokesperson’, sitting out front ready to field any questions.
-While the rest of ’em just sit back, smirking with impunity.
I don’t wanna slap Krampus with his Defense-Up all primed and ready.
I wanna slap Kullervo before he gets to shanking two of my squad!
Of course, Grace isn’t gonna replace a General Dispeller or Controller, but with her respectable Hit and her Defense-Down, she’ll be a great option for those lacking better.
Grace Vs. Empires & Puzzles
Here’s a table populated with Fast and Average heroes who inflict damage to 3 enemy heroes:
|Grace||Fast (8 tiles)||Deals 285% damage to the target and nearby enemies||Target cannot cast Taunt and Target and NB get -34% against Special Skills for 3 turns|
|Reuben||Fast (8 tiles)||Deals 215% damage to the target and nearby enemies||He tries. He really does.|
|Hannah||Fast (8 tiles)||Deals 215% damage to the target and nearby enemies||Summons a Fiend for Targets|
|Francine||Fast (8 tiles)||Deals 255% damage to the target and nearby enemies||Cleanses allies for 3 turns|
|El Naddaha||Fast (8 tiles)||Deals 305% damage to the target and nearby enemies||No Status Effects permitted for 3 turns|
|Quenell||Fast (8 tiles)||Deals 320% damage to the target and nearby enemies||Rebound slap worth up to 520%|
|Faline||Fast (8 tiles)||Deals 330% damage to the target and nearby enemies||-64% mana generation to the quickest hero hit (all 3 if the same)|
|Devana||Average (10 tiles)||Deals 255% damage to the target and nearby enemies||Summons a Lynx and Dispels buffs|
|Guan Yu||Average (10 tiles)||Deals 390% damage to the target and nearby enemies||Targets get between -25% and -70% Defense based on minions|
285% damage is near what El Naddaha will give you, not bad at all.
Overall, I think Grace offers a consistent level of nearly high damage to 3 targets. A real decent effort.
Let’s be honest tho; she’s a little like those cheap knock-offs some of us used to wear back in the day… You remember.
I was so proud of those trainers, wearing them to school that first day.
The other kids still christened them, as cheap and sh#ty as they were. -They didn’t know I got them from that indoor Market Stall.
But I’m not gonna lie, if you rock Grace, EVERYBODY’S gonna know you been to the Market.
Grace Empires and Puzzles – Hero of the Month September 2022
My final thoughts:
Grace is a fantastic HotM.
‘HotM’ is the qualifier here because measured against the new Monsters who appear from that busy Portal, well, she doesn’t fare quite so well.
But I could work with her. She doles out a heavy slap and handy Defense-Down. Awesome.
On top of all that, she’s a straight down-the-barrel solution for Taunters.
I haven’t mentioned the Passive yet because there’s a distinct stench of failure lingering all over it. I mean, if Grace fails to stop a Taunt, she gets rewarded with some Mana… in the hope that she doesn’t f#*k up again, I guess?
- Gets a 10% Mana increase every time an enemy receives a Taunt Status Effect
Still, Grace isn’t a dud and does have something to offer. But what she means to you will be predicated on your roster.
Congrats 🎊🎉 if you got her!
What do you make of Grace?
Hero Grade for Grace (Empires and Puzzles)
So for my grading, the question is:
Is this hero’s Special capable of/likely to change the outcome of a battle? No.
If not, do they still bring enough to the party to help defeat the deities? Yes.
