Best Farming Teams & Heroes [Auto-Play Empires & Puzzles]

Best Farming Teams Heroes Auto Play - Empires and Puzzles

Over the years, two of my Empires & Puzzles teams have worked harder than all the others. I’m talking about my Farming Squads, also known as my auto-play teams.

The first has the codename “Quick”. While the other responds to “Tough” within certain secret societies.

Between them, they auto-beat 99% of what E&P has to offer.

In this post, I’ll be sharing my farming teams with you, and more importantly, I’ll also share the thought process behind their construction.

This post may contain speculation, personal opinion, and comedy. It is not advice and is solely for entertainment and informational purposes.

What Is An Auto-Play Farming Team? (Empires & Puzzles Guide)

Auto Farming is a massive part of Empires & Puzzles.

To be clear, I’m not talking about using Loot Tickets to AUTO WIN.

I’m talking about pressing the FIGHT! button, and then pressing the AUTO button situated at the top-right of the screen:

Empires and Puzzles Auto Play Button
The AUTO Play Button

I use my farming teams (I tend to call them “auto-complete” teams) to grind out all the Events on any given morning, and otherwise grind the Map Stages with unused World Energy Flags.

The goal of an auto-farming squad is to complete any given level as rapidly as possible.

However, as the difficulty increases, you’ll quickly discover that your “Quick” team is too focused on punctuality, without the defensive synergy, or offensive control, required to beat more powerful opposition.

And that’s where the “Tough” team comes in.

Auto-play teams can only be as strong as your personal roster allows; however, most players should have enough options to meet the criteria.

Let’s examine my teams, and I’ll explain as we go.

Build A Quick Farming Team | Best Auto-Play Heroes

This is my Quick auto-play farming team:

Starwalker | Amethyst | Devana | Lionstring | Sparklight

Building a Quick farming team is all about employing Fast-Multi Hitters.

The faster your Heroes charge, the better. Think Average speed or below for a Quick Team (Fast ideally).

You also want both teams to be Rainbow. Meaning, containing one colour of each element, making it much more likely that they’ll get the tiles that they need to charge.

Let’s break the team down, Hero by Hero…

Hero Breakdown (Quick Auto-Play Team) Empires & Puzzles Guide

Starwalker Empires and Puzzles Hero Card Small 2025

Starwalker has just completed his training and has replaced Satori on the Quick team. He’s a Fast all-hitter who also inflicts reduced defense.

He is placed on the left wing to allow him to fire off his Special Skills (reduced defense) before the other hitters follow.

On easier levels, he will clear the deck in one swoop.

Amethyst Hero Card - Empires and Puzzles

Amethyst might seem like an odd choice to use for a Quick farming squad, but she suppresses healing, which often helps with Healers that keep… healing!

With her on the team, I don’t have to worry about coming back to the screen 5 minutes later to find out that the game is caught in an endless loop.

Devana Empires and Puzzles Hero Card Small 2025

Devana is the only real Holy option I have. If I had another Holy Hero who could hit all enemies, and they were the same speed or faster than Devana, I’d field them instead.

I sometimes replace Devana with Costumed Roc. However, Roc is an all-hitting ailment caster, not a damage dealer. -Which can be a help or prove to be pointless on a Quick squad.

Lionstring Empires and Puzzles Hero Card Small

Lionstring is a Very Fast, 4-Star, 3-hitting Hero. My other Nature options include Kai, the Sniper, and C. Caedmon.

I went with Lionstring because he has solid stats, offers a little aid to nearby allies, and importantly, hits three enemies. Again, if I had an all-hitting, quick Nature Hero, I’d happily sub Lionstring out.

C. Caedmon might be a good option due to his ability to dispel buffs.

Sparklight Empires and Puzzles Hero Card Small 2025

Sparklight is the only Hero to appear in both of my teams.

Initially, when I first pulled him, I wasn’t as impressed as I had been about Satori. However, over time, Sparklight has become an increasingly important part of my roster.

His ability to hit like a truck, steal buffs, burn, and repurpose their pain makes him a fantastic all-rounder.

Sadly, he’s Average speed and only targets three enemies. Again, if I had an all-hitting and quicker 5-Star option, I’d make the sub.

The thing to notice about all of the Heroes I’ve used is that they are levelled and strong.

Swift destruction is essential; however, when your Heroes are strong as well, you can rely on them to face more formidable opposition. Meaning, you don’t need to get the big boys out as often.

That’s relevant because while the “Tough” team is better, it’s also slower! A lot slower.

So if possible, create a Quick team that is not only quick, but also somewhat sturdy.

Build A Tough Farming Team | Best Auto-Play Heroes

This is my Tough auto farming team:

Tough Auto Complete Farming Team - Empires and Puzzles

Costumed Roc | Lady of the Lake | Ludwig | Satori | Sparklight

Building a Tough farming team is all about focusing on the win.

It will take more time to win, compared to the Quick team, but we need to be able to ignore the screen and be reasonably assured that upon our return, our guys will have done the business.

Synergy is essential with this team. Take a look at the Heroes above and imagine what happens when they charge. What does the loop look like?

Average Speed Heroes are great. However, as you can see, I also have two Slow Heroes in the mix.

Hero Breakdown (Tough Auto-Play Team) Empires & Puzzles

Costumed Roc Empires and Puzzles Hero Card Small 2025

Costumed Roc was the unlikely star when I snatched #1 in the world. He remains fundamentally sound, brushing aside the enemy’s defence, dispelling buffs, and flinging sand into all open wounds.

It’s between C. Roc and Devana for this position (both Average speed); however, Roc tends to be more decisive against better-quality opposition.

Roc is positioned on the left so that he can fire off first.

Lady Of The Lake Empires and Puzzles Hero Card Small 2025

Lady of the Lake sits next to Ludwig. She is pivotal on this team.

Her role is to heal, and more importantly, to stop the super-bosses from firing off their Special Skills.

I recently had to give her Emblems to another Hero; however, I’ve been feeding them back to her when I can, because she deserves them.

Ludwig Empires and Puzzles Hero Card Small 2025

Ludwig is a massive Hero in Empires & Puzzles.

While he is mostly retired from the front lines in PvP (Player vs. Player), he’s still grade A+ in PvE (Player vs. Environment), where he has more time to operate and auto-Taunts on every level.

You’ll note that the Lady of the Lake (to his left) is a compounding Hero. Meaning that her value increases every time she fires off her Special.

In her case, she summons up to 9 Mana Minions in the lead up to the big bosses.

To his right is Satori. A complete decimator. His compounding feature is death.

Satori Empires and Puzzles Hero Card Small 2025

Satori is by far the biggest hitter I have.

If he can get to slapping after C. Roc has dropped defences, then it’s usually lights out.

He is also more than capable of going it alone.

Another plus is that Satori serves to protect Ludwig, giving himself and nearby allies the chance to drop damage to 1.

Meaning, Ludwig doesn’t have to rely solely on his Special Skill’s defence to survive.

Sparklight Empires and Puzzles Hero Card Small 2025

Sparklight is the only Hero to appear on both of my teams.

He excels on the Tough team, damaging high-HP opponents and healing his squadmates.

He’s a monster in possession of modern Power Stats.

  1. Great write up. I’m newer but for me Ludwig flanked by over healer (Faiez for me) and a power hitter (Azlar glass) lets me roll through just about anything the environment can throw. Been a game changer.

      1. 요즘은경비뱡패밀리 여우패밀리처럼 하수인을 가지고 시작하는 영웅으로 하면 하수인이 맵을 빠르게 정리해줍니다

Translated: Nowadays, if you start with a hero who has servants like the Guard Family or the Fox Family, the servants will quickly clear the map.

        1. This is very true. Mega Minions and Minions offer a lot of extra HP as well.

          Thanks for stopping by!

          1. Cels minions once deployed coupled with Shadowfang is practically unbeatable for those events. I usually put MegGry, and costume Domivitus and Daroga. Half the time I don’t even have to fire off. Astral event I swap Shadow for Konshu since on that event he is a one hero army for the first 4 levels. Its literally 5 purple shield and then tap tap tap

  2. Thanks OC! Great topic, and great perspective, as usual!

My normal farm team on stages where I know I can’t lose is my fastest hit-all in each color – Kemeny, Ogima, Slimgo, Zeline, and Neema. Nothing fancy, just clear the stage with a single hit and move on.

When I need more power and more survival, I switch to either Xiong Shanjun and Ogima, or Kemeny and Sludgus along with Slimgo, Dagr, and Toon Azlar.

LotL is excellent in your lineup. Because of her healing and mana control, she is more valuable next to Ludwig than either Hulda (no mana control) or Waterpipe (no healing). Unfortunately, I have them and not LotL. I have used Rajesh very effectively next to Ludwig. I’d like to work the two of them into my farming teams, but Rajesh is better with a big hitter on the other side of Ludwig, and my biggest hitter is another red – Azlar. That messes with the rainbow team concept. I’ll figure it out someday.

    Thanks again!

    1. Thanks you, Xyfell! Auto-farming is something I guess most players already know but it’s good to discuss! Thanks for sharing your teams as well. And for stopping by!

  3. There is a rare special that ‘restart the duration of your allys buffs’. My Albin, the beast of 9 heads and some others got it.

Well, place it next to Ludwig! Now you’re on an infinite loop. Ludwig fires, 3 turns (at most) later, Albin fires and all the buffs start again. You can also add other buffers, if it last more than 3 turns, the buff enters the loop and never ends.

I like to use costume pengui in the other Ludwig flank, then there is a slap fish massacre.

  4. I just tried to make a fast team and Came at : fizzcoil, pepperflame, lemonwood, gastille, and for green i’d switch with Francine, ptolemaeus or smarttongue. I also have atwood but he’s more of a Pain than help with his madness 😅.
In ‘though’ i’d probably go for : ixinn, pepperflame, smarttongue of atwood Cleopatra and for the last spot phorcys

    1. Hey, Duende. Do you run just one Auto-Play team? All great Heroes there, so I’m sure they get by!

      Thanks for stopping by!

PS. Yes, Insanity isn’t ideal for round after round. Especially at 55 to himself.

      1. Just one for the moment with a few changes to make it more sturdy (ixinn, Cleo) but your post really made me think about finding synergy in my Hero cards and create another one! (I’ll get back to you😉).
I did get the sg’s variant of a certain Terry Pratchett coffin so he’s definately gonna make the farming team!

        1. Cool! I do find that a “Quick” team and a “Powerful” team save me a lot of time auto-farming. But if your Heroes are all Quick and super-Strong anyway, then that’s all that matters.

          Thanks, Duende!

  5. My older farming team was C gazelle, hammerclang, C Ma’at, T tiburtus and Mene -all at least 1LB. With mimics in the mix and adding more loot, I’ve moved them in and replaced a couple hitters.

  6. Nice article. For me I run all exp runs with 4 mimics and theodoscious. I use this lineup for all runs unless they have specific rules. These heroes give me max damage with extra mimic rewards, you can’t go wrong. I think the mimics are game changers in leveling up along with boosters!

    1. Yes, you’re absolutely right. I completely forgot about those… because I haven’t got one yet! But yes, they are clearly ideal due to their extra mimic rewards.

In fact, let me add more details for new players:

Experience Mimic Heroes have a passive/Family bonus that gives them a chance of extra loot when completing stages (map or quest levels).
They are the only Heroes in the game to do so.

If you have one, it’s well worth using them for auto-playing levels.

      Thanks again, At94hiker.

  7. Guardian Hippo, Ma’at(C), Gestalt, Alfrike (C), Astrid.
The Hippo is the weakest hero here, but the buffs are awesome for quick farming. And even if I lose him sometimes during harder fights, Astrid tends to bring him back.
Ma’at reduces defense (fast mana plus Hippo buff) Gestalt hits like a truck (costume bonus included), and Alfrike is mana control (with her own mana speed buffed by the costume, the troop and the Hippo). Astrid is the safety buffer – resurrection and a chance to drop received damage to 1.

  8. This was very helpful. Thanks. Do you have any advice for those of us who are still managing with 3 star hero’s?

    1. Hi SLN, yes.

The idea of the Quick team is to save you time auto-completing easier map and quest levels. For that team, you want fast mana Heroes who hit as many enemies as possible. No Healers are required on that team.

Then you want to build your strongest auto-team. That team will likely need a Healer, some sort of controller (slow or hinder the opposition’s Special Skills), and then a way to wipe them out.

I wouldn’t worry so much about only having 3-Star Heroes for now. Just do the best with what you have.

Something as simple as reducing the enemies’ Defence with Heroes like Treevil will allow your hitters to destroy enemies with a slap afterwards.

I have a couple of posts that may also help:

Reaching #1 in the world – This talks about team building, as does this…
How to set up a Defense

  9. Have 2 teams good for auto play, only use different ones for variety. A team that has healers likely going to win, takes longer tho. 1st team left to right: Lewena, hits all enemies, blocks talents, fast manna. Next Faeona, a healer with other good qualities, slow tho.. In middle Shadowfang, a heavy hitter that just keeps hitting, slow tho. Next Mene, fairly heavy hitter, doesn’t always center attack tho, teams well with Faeona, 2024 family, average manna speed. Lastly slow Lughaidh, with his Deathless King costume, goes into ghost form, yet increases health of mates past original, gives more defense to mates as well. You want Faeona to go off before Lughaidh for best results.
Second team average speed Pepperbleu, a heavy single hitter, in the middle. To her left Eliane, average speed heavy all enemies hitter. To Pepperbleu’s right, Aouda, fast speed heavy single enemy hitter. Outside left Koyla, garrison guard troop, minion hits automatically, hits all enemies heavy. Far right position Sartana, fast speed heavy single enemy hitter.
With first team use attack dragon, second team gets healing dragon.
First team more likely to win than second, but they haven’t a problem most environments.

    1. Thanks Steve, I appreciate the breakdown. I tend to run two teams mainly for speeds sake. I really want those lower levels done quickly, and then I accept the extra time the tougher levels are gonna take.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  10. My grind team from left to right is C. Odin, C. Archie, Mistra, Glass Marjana, and Zed. Mistra is slow, but provides healing at later stages, if needed. Marjana is my strongest hero and my only hit-all red is slow Azlar. Zed is my strongest purple and I’m also lacking a strong hit-all purple.

One thing worth mentioning is dragons. I can survive stronger levels with my grind team by including a healing dragon. For easier levels I use a hit-all dragon.

  11. Thank you for your article — it was very helpful! I shared it with my alliance, although most of the elders in my group are probably saying, “been there, done that.” 😊 My farming team consists of Goldie, Lliana, costume Sartana, Cardinal Richelieu, and costume Krampus, in that order. Since I just started trying the auto-run, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

    1. “been there, done that.” ~ 😄 Very true. But maybe they wanna read for fun anyway.

Sharing my post is a great way to help me so thank you Nancy!

Re. your line-up, it’s not bad.

Lianna and C. Sartana we’d want to bench when better hitters come along. They’re both single target attackers (Snipers), and we really want 3-or-5 hitters to speed things along.

Goldie is well placed to provide the attack boost before they all fire off. I like the Cardinal, and with what you have you could place him next to Goldie. (If your team is dying too often, consider moving Goldie in, as your Heroes might benefit from healing AFTER they have attacked the enemy).

      C. Krampus, while dated, doesn’t need that much protection in PvE (maps and quests). His Special provides him with added defense, meaning if someone has to take punishment, it may as well be him. So I would play him as Tank (centre) or Flank (next to the center).

I’ve used a lot of Jargon so I may as well share my E&P Jargon Buster post because it might help!

      So…

Goldie | Reduce Defence Hero (even if 4-Star) | Krampus | Cardinal | Big Hitter/Finisher

If you want speed replace Krampus. If you want a more defensive team, play him.

      I hope that helps!

  12. Awesome feedback. One thing that would make farming so much better in my opinion, when you use the Auto feture you automatically fight again until you are out of flags. Only then will it be true Auto Farming.

  13. Team fast (All LB2 + emblems) :
    Ma’at C / Marjana C2 / Guardian Panther (or Freya C) / Leonidas C2 / Perseus C

  14. I have 2 different farming teams as well. My fun team on easier levels is Nova, Lexi, Zione, Greg, and Xandrella. The fun aspect is that they’re all super elemental (except for blue Greg), so the damage from the power gems and Greg’s mega minion can add up fast.
My power team for farming hard levels is Darkfeather, cHeimdall, Starwalker, Lemonwood, and Sparklight. Especially if timing is right for others to go off after Darkfeather, it’s lights out with a quickness. Pulling him was a gamechanger for me. Thanks for the fun post!

    1. Hello!

As you play the game and complete Maps and Quests, you’ll earn pulls at the portals. There are lots of good 3 and 4-Star Heroes to level and to help you make progress (they are easier to come by).

At the beginning, it’s all about moving forward with what you’ve got.

Here are a few posts that might help:

There’s a lot of E&P guides and tips here.

  15. Froth, Leocos (slash), Turgruk, Nogu, Yang Mai for me.

Froth and Yang May both have a mana hotm bonus so everybody gets bonus mana pretty much all game long (after the first had gone off).

Leocos (slash) has a handy def all down. Turgruk is very fast. And Nogu has innate bonuses that rarely kick in but help when they do.

Yang May was fairly useless with she came out but had been buffed up quite a bit. Froth provides handy minions that clean up nearly dead enemies.

I do all my farming with these guys. Can play through pretty much anything with them.
