Defense Battle Replays, Soul Exchange, & Sludgus

Empires and Puzzles - Battle Replays - Soul Exchange - Sludgus

Watching your Defense Team battle against Raiders is the height of entertainment. I discovered this on my recent 61-day hiatus from Empires and Puzzles.

Where was I?

Testing out a bunch of other mobile games. One of them was called, Call Of Antia.

It’s quite similar to Empires and Puzzles and has this cool feature where you can watch back Defense Battles.

You can see exactly how people interact with your Defense Team, which Heroes they target, and which Heroes are straight-up selling out your Squad.

With all that information, you can revise and strengthen your Defense Team in a way that you otherwise couldn’t.

It’s entertaining and useful and would make an awesome addition to E&P.

There was something else I wanted to discuss…

As it transpired, my 61-day exile was finally halted by all the noise surrounding the recent Soul Exchange…

This post may contain speculation, personal opinion, and adult comedy. It is not advice and is solely for entertainment and informational purposes.

What Brought On The Break? (Pop-Ups!)

Burnout is a real thing, even in gaming. Plus, I couldn’t seem to get Mats or Leg Troops. And my Roster was quickly falling behind as a result.

But there was more…

POP-UPS!

I hate Pop-ups in general and sometimes E&P feels like it’s being controlled by some 8-year-old high on Cola, trying to show me their X-Men card collection:

“I got this one. And this one. And this one. Have you seen this one?! What AbOuT ThiS OnE! THIS ONE!”

STOP, KID! Just STOP!

You’re being abrasive.

Go spend a month on the chill-out step or something.

Anyway, then along came the Soul Exchange and I remembered I had 10 spares sitting on file.

I popped back in to check and BOOM!

That kid was proper on it. All up in my face.

When I finally got to the Exchange I reflected on my choices.

It was immediately clear that 10-Souls weren’t gonna cut it.

Back to the Roster and nobody was giving me eye contact, -they all knew what’s up.

They were all initially concerned about me, wondering where and how I’d been. Malosi was visibly upset.

And instead of this grand reunion, I’m all stoic, talking about, “It’s not me, it’s you”. Cold stuff.

I had to remain focused and am willing to admit, I was ruthless in that room, counting them out:

“12, 13, 14…15”.

Pointing at them like I was picking friends for my Mackey D’s birthday party.

I had done it. 15 Souls for 1.

15 had to die so that 1 might live.

But who?

What 1 Soul in this world is worthy of 15?

“Becky, this will be your locker. Please make yourself comfortable. You can rub off ‘Freya’. She won’t be back”.

Empires and Puzzles: Sludgus

Sludgus Empires and Puzzles Hero Card - Small

Empires & Puzzles have made a serious misstep with Sludgus.

It doesn’t take a genius to know that you won’t be able to hold down steel strings with jelly fingers.

Let alone a bridge!!!

Empires & Puzzles - Sludgus Playing Guitar - Old Cynic Jokes

Nope, not possible. I’m calling BS.

Sludgus must be a poser, like the guy flexing a guitar in some 1990s boyband video.

I’m not hating tho, -I just don’t like it when people pretend it’s that easy.

I’ve got fat fingers and it was a real struggle getting that bridge (moisture from fat finger sweat = the perfect anti-callus recipe).

Jokes aside, 1600 damage would cut down my Team with some serious immediacy. But nowadays, there’s a vast number of Heroes capable of doing the same.

What about those Mega Minions? 😁

And whenever a Sniper gets a little enthusiastic, BOOM: A chunky Mini-Me in the way:

Awesome Hero, and at the time of writing, Sludgus appears in 5 out of the Top 10 Defense Teams on the Global Leaderboard.

Empires and Puzzles: Soul Exchange & Becky

My final thoughts:

I should caveat that Becky was the right choice for me and my roster. It’s not meant as a judgement on you (although, you’re welcome to share your own pick in the comments below).

There were some nice Heroes on offer during this Soul Exchange.

Becky turned out to be a terrific addition to my Squad.

And with 61 days of resources overflowing from all my buildings, she was promptly brought up to speed.

I also managed to convert my very first Legendary Troop, too. Woohoo! Things are finally moving.

Anyway, hope you guys are well and enjoyed the post.

Feel free to have your say on:

  • The Defence Replay Idea
  • Pop-Ups
  • The Soul Exchange
  • Becky, and
  • Sludgus

  1. Just had a long term member epic quit with video. Fed his whole bench and raged quit over war. Agree game is becoming frustrating but damn. Finished off his bench by feeding them to Ricard. Damn brother.

    1. Wow, that’s final. We’ve all had those Wars, especially if you’re someone who was an overachiever in the old E&P. -Modern E&P will slap that right out of you 😁.

      Thanks for popping by, Piggysmalls!

  2. I always wanted the defensive replay. I always wanted to see what happened to my team and Sometimes I want the ither guy to see what I did. I always like the ability to watch attacks live like you can do in Clash of Clans. Maybe one day. Good to see you talking about E&P. We miss your insight. Peace.

  3. Such a pleasure to see you posting when I popped in today. Like everyone, I hope this means you’re back with your insights and humor. You’ve been missed for certain!
I took Aconia for 10 in Soul Exchange. She looks like she similar to Xandrella except against yellow.
    Again, welcome back!

  4. Man we missed you. Hope you are back, we need the analysis of all these new heros. I know it’s a lot of work, but know that you are appreciated out here.

I took Cel for 20 (Becky was my second choice). I’ve wanted Cel for a long time and just pulled another masked god (Jove) the week before.
She’s at 3/70 and already smacking people around.

    1. Thanks Jeff, I appreciate it. E&P is a tough dance partner because it can take a lot of time and energy to create these posts, and it can be difficult getting enough people to read them! I am currently thinking about something that might work so please watch this space.

Congrats on Cel, I was looking at her but I would’ve had to toss old nostalgic Heroes like Malosi into the furnace, and I couldn’t do it! I hope Cel is as good as Becky has been for me.

Thank you for stopping by, it is always appreciated!

  5. Pretty much going to say the same thing as everyone else – I definitely missed you, your wit and insight! I didn’t really have enough to warrant going for the Soul Exchange, but before I realized that, I went to look for your recommendations and remembered you were on hiatus. Hope you’re back to stay.

  6. What did you think of Call of Antia? The only reason I keep playing E&P is because I didn’t find a better substitute and my search continues. Any recommendations?

    1. CoA is the best similar game that I’ve tested, but E&P is better in some key areas. My early thoughts are that both have their strengths. CoA is very playable, but the multiplayer system is lacking (and that impacts replay-ability).

The in-game animations are very cool and they don’t have as many pop-ups.

I might write a full review at some point!

  7. I was waiting on your comments for this soul exchange to help me choose, and you weren’t there. You were sorely missed

    1. Thank you Capagi, I am trying to write more for E&P but I can’t see me reaching the hights of the old days… Hopefully, a more chilled OC is still useful in some way.

We shall see if people are interested!

    1. Congrats Samantha, I’m having a great time with her (Becky). I just wish there was space for 6 Heroes in my team, it would make it fairer against players like you flexing Sludgus! 😁

      Thank you for stopping by!

      1. Got Becky too, but not levelled yet cause there were too many ahead of her. But now it’s finally her turn. You said she fit well in your roster and while rosters vary greatly, can you say a bit more about her? I’d appreciate it a lot. Thanks!

        1. I may write a post about her in the future. In short, I run 3 Purple because it’s my strongest element and she fits in well with Ludwig and Diaochan. Becky is able to create a half-way decent loop of offence which helps me beat teams I’d otherwise lose to.

          Thanks Samantha!

          1. Thanks, Old Cynic. As always, your advice is very useful. I really hope you get round to write about Becky. She is a very unique character.

I was lucky last night; after finishing ToL I did my final summon fully expecting another Carver. Instead I got Ramona! Very pleased with it. My other usable purple heroes are Deadboot, Medea, Cecilia & Charon. I kinda feel that Becky and Ramona will fit in perfectly.
