The Best 4-Star Heroes in Empires and Puzzles [Top 10]

This is a monster post, which takes into consideration, all of the 4-Star heroes in Empires and Puzzles. The goal is simple, -to declare an answer to the righteous question: Who’s The Best 4-Star hero in the Game?!

Now, this is just my personal opinion and is based on my hero grades. So, if your favourite hero isn’t here, feel free to share them in the comments below.

I hope to give new players an idea of which 4-Star heroes are good, and to give experienced players something to argue about 😁

This post may contain speculation, personal opinion, and adult comedy. It is not advice and is solely for entertainment and informational purposes.

My criteria – I was looking for heroes that are:

  • Great for new players (who might actually need them for Raids and Stages)
  • Great for completing Quest Stages quickly
  • Great for standard Tournaments
  • Great for Very Fast Tournaments
  • and great against Titans

Before we start, please note that these heroes are graded as compared with other 4-Star heroes.

-So, while a hero might be graded Archangel, it’s not the same as a 5-Star Archangel, because they’re in different classes.

Also, Costumes are allowed for this list.

OK, let’s get this show on the road… and the cat, sniffing the catnip!

Empires and Puzzles Best 4-Star Heroes

#11 Kiril (Best 4-Star Hero Review)

Yes, the title says Top 10, but there are too many to choose from and I’m not going out like that. I’m hedging…

Kiril Empires and Puzzles Best 4 Star Hero Card

Special Skills (Blessed Brew): 1. Recovers 28% health for all allies. 2. All allies get +30% attack for 3 turns. 3. All allies get +30% defense for 3 turns.

Thoughts on Kiril

You’ve got a lot of choices for healer in the 4-Star pool, but good ol’ Season 1 Kiril, is among the best.

Why?

A significant reason is his Defense-up, which can be used in today’s game to counter the likes of Wilbur, Morel, Frigg, Santa, and Zekena.

Meanwhile, his +Attack buff will counter Octros and Santa.

He basically Cleanses the team of these ailments, with a little top-up bonus for good measure.

On top of that, Kiril heals all allies for 28%, and does his work at an Average speed.

If you’re a new player with only a few heroes, Kiril could really help you grow. Take him on Raids and stick him on Defense. -He’s a solid allrounder and well worth the investment of resources.

#10 Buddy (Empires and Puzzles Review)

Buddy Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Special Skills (Gift Sack): 1. Deals 205% damage to the target and nearby enemies. 2. Summons an Elf Minion for the caster and nearby allies with 7% HP and 10% attack inherited from the caster. 3. The target and nearby enemies get -24% attack for 3 turns. 4. The target and nearby enemies get -34% defense for 3 turns

Thoughts on Buddy

He’s easily one of my favourite 4-Star heroes, doing so much for his Average charge.

  • Hits 3 enemies
  • Summons 3 Minions worth 7% Att, 10% HP
  • Inflicts -Attack for 3 turns
  • Inflicts -Defense for 3 turns

The -34% Defense is a great finishing touch and leaves the enemy open to a roundhouse from one of Buddy’s eager mates.

I recently covered Buddy in my Santa’s Challenge guide, and you can find a little more on him over there.

#9 Franz (Empires and Puzzles Best 4-Star Hero)

Franz Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Special Skills (Sonorous Spear): 1. Deals 215% damage to all enemies. 2. All damage all enemies receive is increased by 50% for 6 turns 3. All enemies are immune to new buffs for 6 turns.

Franz Review

You know how hot this list is, that Franz is in at #9?

He’s a brand new hero from the Clash Of Knights event, and he’s crazy…

I mean, 215% Damage to all is a solid whack, and the +50% damage received for all enemies is gonna hurt, and probably cause their early demise.

Add to that, the fact he makes all of them immune to new buffs for 6 turns, and surely it’s game-over?

He’s also a ‘Raven’, which means with another Raven hero by his side, this ailment may not be cleansable.

Going against him is his speed: Very Slow.

Although, it must be pointed out, with these new insane 4-Star heroes…

-if you’ve got a Magic boy (Ludwig/Xnolphod), you’ll be able to speed them up and maybe get some use out of them in normal Raids, and maybe even on Defense.

I like Franz a lot but wouldn’t want to meet him in a Rush Tournament.

#8 Proteus (Best 4-Star Hero in Empires and Puzzles)

Proteus Empires and Puzzles Best 4 Star Hero Card

Special Skills (Scar of the Depths): 1. The target and nearby enemies receive 327 Poison damage over 3 turns. 2. The target and nearby enemies can’t gain mana for 3 turns.

Proteus Review

Proteus; The mana god.

Back in the day, Proteus was the cool guy around campus. He would poison your enemies and stunt their Mana growth.

And he’s still very much a badass today, with his simple but extremely effective Mana control. I mean, limiting Mana gain for 3 turns is a solid trick that would shake the boots off some of the game’s biggest heroes.

If you’re a new player in need of an angle to work, then Proteus may be the hero you’re looking for.

And when you’re fully developed, he’ll prove useful for those difficult End-Bosses; the likes of which we’ve seen recently, with the Clash Of Knights.

I look back at these older heroes, and stats aside (Attack/Defense/Health), some of them have great Specials, capable of causing a hiccup here and there.

#7 Frank (E&P Review)

Frank Empires and Puzzles Best 4 Star Hero Small Card

Special Skills (Undead Razer): 1. Deals 200% damage to all enemies. 2. The damage is increased by 45% per each dead enemy. 3. All enemies get -44% defense for 4 turns.

Thoughts on Frank

I needed to include a Defense-Down hero for this list because they’re so powerful.

If you’re running 4-Star heroes in a 5-Star world, Defense-Down is like giving a really demoralising dressing down to the opposition, -thus, leaving them open to some horrendous outcomes.

… Wow. That sounds really sad…

Life’s tough folks, but you gotta… Nope -let’s get back to it.

There are a few nice and accessible options to choose from in the 4-Star ranks, including Grimm, Buddy, Zila Lei, Costumed Kiril, and my old favourite, Costumed Tib-a-dus (as I call him), -or Tiburtus to you.

There’s also Frank.

Frank’s a bit harder to get, and he’s slow (whereas most of the above are Average). However, he’s a complete wrecking ball, dealing 200% damage to all, which is increased by 45% per dead enemy, and a lovely -44% Defense-down for them to stew on for 4 turns.

Costumed Tiburtus does 175% damage to all and -34% Defense for 4 turns, for ref.

#6 Ametrine (4 Star Hero Empires and Puzzles Review)

Ametrine Empires and Puzzles Best 4 Star Hero Card

Special Skills (Blur of Steel):
Mana Charge x1: 1. Dispels buffs from the target. 2. Deals 220% damage to the target.
Mana Charge x2: 1. Dispels buffs from the target and nearby enemies. 2. Deals 255% damage to the target and nearby enemies.
Mana Charge x3: 1. Dispels buffs from all enemies. 2. Deals 300% damage to all enemies.

Thoughts on Amertrine

Ametrine is truly the little sister of Cobalt and Onyx. -She hits like a truck, and even better than them, she Dispels all buffs before getting to the violence.

It’s easy to think of her as a big slapper, but she’s actually a very useful Dispeller.

Imagine facing a Taunter in a Raid Tournament and he’s just fired off.

Ametrine will stop that s*#t on her first Mana charge; that’s just 5 tiles.

And if you need her to start dismembering folk, she’ll rock everyone’s world for a crazy 300% a piece!

I was quickly convinced that Ametrine deserves all the Emblems and in time, a Limit Break, too.

A Fantastic, versatile, hero.

#5 Anastasia (Best 4 Star in Empires and Puzzles)

Anastasia Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Special Skills (Cheerful Charm):
Mana Charge x1: 1. Summons a Grimoire Minion for all allies with 13% HP and 20% attack inherited from the caster.
Mana Charge x2: 1. Deals 235% damage to all enemies. 2. Summons a Grimoire Fiend for all enemies. The fiend damages the enemy with 43% attack every turn. 3. The Grimoire Fiend absorbs healing and disappears when it has absorbed health equal to 30% of its owner’s max health.

Thoughts on Anastasia

Anastasia may look magical, but once you get to know her, you learn that she’s like a butcher at a meat market.

All day long, she’s chopping up meat and doling it out. She’s an absolute factory.

  • Need a 5th for your Raid team? Anastasia’s your girl.
  • Need a pseudo-healer for a Bloody Tournament? Let me introduce you to, Anastasia.
  • Need a Fiend on your enemy’s face? Come ‘ere Anastasia!

On top of all that good stuff, she’s a modern hero with modern stats. My Anastasia (in the photo above) has 755 Attack, 773 Defense, and 1655 Health.

I’ve got a full review of Anastasia over here, so if you want more, check it out!

#4 Wilbur (E&P Review)

Wilbur Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Special Skills (Wonderful Feast): 1. All allies share damage over 4 turns. 2. All enemies share damage over 4 turns. 3. All allies get +63% defense for 4 turns. 4. All enemies get -44% defense for 4 turns.

Wilbur Review

Speak to one of the old heads and they’ll tell you, “Back in my day, all you needed was Wilbur and a pack of smokes. Kids today don’t know they’re born”.

🙂

They won’t really say that, what they’ll actually say is, “Wilbur’s one of the best 4-Star heroes in the game”.

Why?

Because he makes killing the enemy easier while making your team harder to kill. Simples.

+63% Damage is a great buffer, and -44% Defense for your enemies is a wicked ailment. It’s a simple formula for winning battles.

Wilbur’s a versatile, powerful hero, who also works at a good speed (Average).

#3 Ferant (Best 4-Star Hero in Empires and Puzzles)

Ferant Empires and Puzzles 4 Star Hero Card

Special Skills (Feral Revenge): 1. The caster and nearby allies counterattack with 115% of the damage received for 5 turns. 2. The caster and nearby allies decrease -10% mana from the attacker on each counterattack for 5 turns. The effect gets diminished for consecutive activations during the same turn.

Thoughts on Ferant

You know, sometimes I get it wrong. It’s true.

I got loads of reviews…

Hold up, not ‘loads’…

I’ve got a ‘couple’ of reviews where I’m square wrong. And for that, dear reader, I sincerely apologise.

But not with Ferant. I called this one on the button. And maybe that’s not difficult to do when you’re presented with his info:

  • 115% Counterattack -His first move is just off Boril, Mack, and Elena.
  • Each Counterattack decreases Mana from the attacker by up to 10%! -His second move is crazy Mana control which even the Lady Of The Lake would appreciate.

And now, Ferant has started to appear in some top Defenses and it really makes me well-up inside. -He’s a lovely guy and deserves all his success.

Finally, look at the stats on this guy: 1866 Health.

Old Cynic’s Hero Grade: Deity

I’ve got a full review of Ferant, here.

#2 Gullinbursti (Empires and Puzzles Review)

Gullinbursti Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Special Skills (Angry Boar): 1. Boosts health of all allies by 400. Boosted health can exceed max HP. 2. The caster gets +45% attack, and a further 20% increase every time they or any of their allies are hit during 3 turns. When the effect ends, all enemies receive 184 damage. Each hit on the caster or their allies during the duration increases the damage by 13 to a maximum of 340 damage.

Thoughts on Gullinbursti

I suspect Gullinbursti is one of the hardest-working heroes in all of Empires and Puzzles.

If you don’t have a better Over-Healer, he’s the go-to choice for Maps and Quests.

I happen to love the fact that after taking some damage (following his Special), he’ll strike back for up to 340 damage,

-because it’s better to seek revenge than to live with regret…

(tell ’em the old cynic said that… ~not the cops tho… in fact, please see my T&C’s -I’m not responsible for anything you do).

Gullinbursti was a smash when first released, and he remains one of the best healers in the game today.

#1 Costumed Rigard (4-Star Review Empires and Puzzles)

Rigard Empires and Puzzles Hero Card

Special Skills (Regeneration): 1. All allies regenerate 609 HP over 3 turns. 2. All allies get +48% attack for 3 turns. 3. Cleanses status ailments from all allies.

Thoughts on Costumed Rigard

I shook up the world!

After researching high and low, I couldn’t find a 4-Star hero who could come close to knocking off Rigard.

If you don’t have a proper 5-Star healer, the likes of Ariel, Xnolphod, Mother North, Lady Of The Lake, or Prof. Lidenbrock, then Rigard is a real contender to stand in, alongside your other 5-Star heroes.

In fact, we don’t mention the missing star in my locker-room, -I’ve made it clear, if you disrespect Rigard, you may as well pack your things…

Here are the cold stone facts, no matter what any of these new heroes throw at you by way of ailments, Rigard will fix it:

  • Bera stopping your Summoner from attaching new Minions? Rigard!
  • Frigg and Cute-blue-big-ears-thing reducing your team’s Defense? Rigard!
  • Elizabeth stuck some Fiends on your mate’s head? Rigard!
  • C.Santa messing with your Mojo? Rigard!

Costumed Rigard is the ultimate defensive hero, who also rallies the team, by increasing their Attack.

When I first started playing this game, folks were singing his praises, and nothing changed. -He’s an absolute class act.

In my view, Costumed Rigard is the best 4-Star hero in all the land.

Old Cynic’s Hero Grade: Deity

Honourable Mentions: Sergei, Aodhan, Brynhild, and Capt. Diamonds

We’ve already covered a lot of ground and, of course, some heroes didn’t make it.

But there are a few I wanted to give a shout-out to, like Sergei -the stats King.

And Aodhan, -an absolute beast.

Brynhild, -a genuine superstar before the formation nerf.

Finally, Captain Of Diamonds, -a hero who looks fantastic on paper for dealing with all the Minions in the current game. Not gonna lie, I had him a looong time ago and cooked him up straight away.

  1. Hi!

I mostly agree with your Top10; atm i was wondering about Brynhild, cuz her ability to protect others’ skills is very precius (imagine Ferant-Brynhild-Wolfgang…!). Is she worth LB-ing???

And what’s your thought on Melendor Costume?

    Many thx,

    Gixu

    1. I love Melendor because he looks like he’s out of LotR, Defense up is nice too. But for me the old healers rank:

      C. Rigard
      Kiril
      Boldtusk
      Melendor

Brynhild is a great hero, but I found her a little weak in 5-Star raids, especially once the formation nerf happened. -So I personally wouldn’t bother… but as always -depends on the depth of your roster. 4-Star LBs are not too expensive.

      Thanks for reading Gixu!

      1. Well, for me Melendor Costume is better than Boldtusk for the dispel thing… and also because i’ve finished my fighter emblems, gone for Wolfgang and Magni 😉

        1. I’m bound to add Boldtusk costume… his stats are crazy: A:638 D:1017 H:1548 and his 60% counterattack for allies has saved my bacon a few times! Or am I wide of the general consensus?

  2. I’d rank Marcel higher than Buddy. Marcel hits harder, and is also green. But Buddy is still great.

I’d be tempted to list Mist, Brynhyld, Boldtusk, and a few others over Franz too. Franz is limited to rush wars and tournaments IMO. I also wouldn’t list Gullibursti. He’s amazing on map stages and tournaments but again, he’s too slow for anything PvP outside of rush wars and tournaments.

  3. I have only recently started using Rigard, no costume. From almost the very beginning I never had a cleanser. I agree, Rigard is a strong healer and his costume makes him even better, if you get the tiles… I realise that counts for every hero but every time I have used Rigard I had had to rearrange the lineup just for him because he does not dispel.

Again, almost from the beginning of my journey with E&P I have used dispellers everywhere and they have done reasonably well. That is why seeing only Ametrine representing the dispellers feels like a let down.

I also realise the meta has changed, but how many F2P or c2p players actually have one or more of the ninjas? Personally, I don’t have any. Nor do I have any of the new event heroes except for the 3* Guardian Lemur…

Thanks for sharing your view, and taking your time doing so.

    1. Hey Cornelius, I was confusing when you said Dispel for Cleanse, my fault.

For fun, who are the dispellers you’d put in, -and the harder part, who would you take out?

      Thanks for reading and visiting!

    1. Yep, Mist was on the shortlist but wasn’t quite strong enough I felt. C.Sabina was overlooked because personally, I don’t value dispellers as much at 4-Star level. If I know I’m facing a serious buff, I’ll just grab Sonya or Caedmon.

That said, Costumed Sabina is a great shout and has a strong argument for being represented here.

      1. There’s one thing you’re overlooking about my girl Sabina – that buff dispel extends for 3 turns. Annoying counterattack like Ferant got you down? No buffs for you! BK or Krampus taunting your team? No buffs for you! Think of all those support heroes that just make a big, tank-y wall that you can’t break down. No buffs for you, you, or you! Teams with Proteus on a 3-2 raid, these wall teams are helpless prey. Trust me. I’ve seen it. And even after 3+years of playing, C. Sabina is one of the first heroes I reach for. She’s a frickin’ Deity in disguise!!

        1. Hey Karl, I hear you. C. Sabina could (some controversial folk say should) have made this list. She’s a great hero and one that I’ll consider if I shake it up in future.

Thanks for sharing your view Karl, and for reading!

      2. Wasn’t quite strong enough?!? Really? Like…that’s one of her steeghths for me no pun intended. She is an absolute beast. I have her leveled and emblemed and I dont even need her broken to dominate with her. Especially nowadays, she’s killing it.

  4. Hi Old Cynic,

    Great list again!

It’s like trying to list the 10 best songs ever, we’re unlikely to all list exactly the same ones. But that’s part of the fun!

    Here’s my feedback:

I agree with Byzanthia that Marcel is the new Buddy 🙂 Another way of putting it is that Marcel is stronger in attack and Buddy is more defensive. I happily use both, but Marcel hits a lot harder.

I tend to place in the Top 1% in all the weely 4* tournaments and I think I have all 4*, Franz & Ferant are WIP upgrading right now (so no opinion yet). I use quite a few of the 4* in my prefered titan teams even though I have fully levelled & emblemed 5* in the right colours but that don’t have the same impact as certain 4*. I mention this to give context to my commentary below.

    My top 10 would be:
    1. Proteus
    2. Gullinbursti
    3. Colen Costume
    4. Wilbur
    5. Sonya w/wo Costume and Caedmon w/wo Costume (tied)
    7. Rigard w/wo Costume
    8. Cillian (he is like a 5*!)
    9. Ametrine
    10. Kiril w/wo Costume

The odd one out on your list for me is Anastacia. I have her +20 but struggle to find any use for her and unless she starts delivering somewhere she will lose her emblems and spend her time cheerleading on the bench.

In one weekly tournament match (with several team members dead) I fired her 3 times with the double charge, but even with 3 of her fiends each it took forever to kill off the enemies. Her fiends don’t cause any ailments (unlike her 5* big brother Motega, or her evil big sisters Hannah & Elizabeth). She also does no direct damage (which is why I now dither about upgrading Motega). At this stage I rather bring Griffin, Wu Kong costume, Gullinbursti #1 and Gullinbursti #2 and Mist before Anastacia.

The heroes I’m missing most on the list are Sonya & Caedmon, with or without costumes. They are first on the team sheet in the 4* tournaments as you typically need cleanising and debuffing. They are perhaps Warriors in your terminology, but they get a lot more minutes on the pitch than any of the heroes on your top 10 list. First 4* heroes I limit broke, with no regrets! It is perhaps like Nobel prize winners in literature. John Grisham outsells them all, but he’ll never get the prize. But if he is what the majority are reading, is he not the best writer? Sonya & Caedmon are a bit like that.

Colen with Costume is another favourite. With the costume and a balanced emblem path he is an incredible strong 4* and no longer squishy. Especially not after being limit broken…

Thanks for your good work, not just with this list but with a steady commentary on all things E&P!

    Cheers,

    Jackie

    1. Hey Jackie, thanks for sharing. I like your list, and you’re right; it was all about Best of the Best in isolation. Sonya and Caedmon do sterling work, but I was hard pushed to add them to the list.

It’s a difficult list to create and I wanted to be true to my opinions while leaving the floor open to others. We’ve all taken different paths to get here, so it’s reasonable for us to have different views.

But as you said, the goal is a bit of fun! Hopefully it’s just that.

  5. Have you had any experience with Ingolf since his buff? 280% to all plus DoT and mana/buff length reduction. A hard hitter that leaves a bad taste in your mouth for awhile…

  6. Great list, I think DeAndre might be a contender since maxed emblems and lb he had better stats than Ariel. Does the mana up and usually a defense up as well! He’s insane for a 4*

  7. Proteus is my favorite hero when it comes to high level quests. You nurse him along to the boss and pair him with 5 super mana potions and you get 15! Rounds of free attacks on the enemy not counting any free recharges from the tiles. Makes these missions easy. He is the one 4 star that no one else can replace.

Honorable mention, Guardian Jackal makes dark titans wake up in a cold sweat at night!

  8. 100% onboard w. C Rigard – i sub him in for Killhare on Rush wars so i have 2 healers.
Im a HUGE fan of D’Andre, but he doesnt cleanse, and at my current status, that is too important. C Caedmon -> Beast mode.
Offensively, im suprised at how long Li Xiu has stuck around – Peters & Tettukh can Silence one, Proteus three, but she can stop whole team.

    1. Hey Sleekysaurus, it’s the cleanse that’s so important & hard to come by at the top that makes him a star. A few have also mentioned DAndre, who was on the shortlist -great hero.

      Thanks for sharing!

  9. I think you are discounting the elemental down heros like G. Falcon, G. Jackel, Almur and of course Sergei. These heros take down defenses a lot for sniper teammates. Of these Sergei is tops, very fast mana, reduces dark defense on all opponents and has great stats but Almur (fast, affects three heros) is also worth special mention. If you are putting together a 3-2 team or a monostack, these heros are game changers and I routinely use Almur and Sergei with five star, fast mana snippers to tear through strong enemy formations.

I also think Melendor and Sabina are back in vogue (especially in costume) due to the prevalence of Krampus and Sif on defense teams. I will swap Sabina in for Rigard or Melendor in for one of my five star healers if I am facing a taunt or counter-attack hero. Having someone who can remove opponents’ buffs is a must for the intermediate player.

    1. Hey Fast n Sharp, all reasonable points, it was a hard list to make and I stand by my choices but thanks for highlighting other heroes and contributing!

New players will see this and take your points as well, which is great.

Elemental down heroes are really powerful but I wonder, who’s your pick for best 4-star of them all?

      Thanks for visiting

      1. Best? Sergei, although it really depends on your attacking style. Besides the great stats, he only needs six tiles to charge. I pair him with two purple snipers (I use Seshat and Sartana). What almost always happens when I am attacking with him is that he will charge after making two triplets, I set him off before the third triplet (allowing those tiles to do over 2x their normal damage), and the third triplet finishing charging the fast mana snipers. The snipers then can take out a critical hero like Mother North or do extensive damage to two different heroes. I have both him and his sister Anastasia and to me Sergei is dramatically better for attack, especially titans where people typically use monostacks or 4-1 teams. That’s doesn’t even include his second skill, the 100% attack buff. If I could only have one four star hero, it would him.

        1. Thanks for that, you make a compelling argument. I think we all try to find a synergy with what we have, and Sergei’s a great place to start.

          Thanks again!

  10. Good list Cynic, but mine is better 🙂

ᵀᴼᴾ 10 4*ˢ ᵀᴼ ᴿᵁᴸᴱ ᵀᴴᴱᴹ ᴬᴸᴸ
    10. Boomer/Frank/Costume Wu Kong (Yes, I cheated!)
    09. Mist
    08. Costume Chao
    07. Costume Sonya or Costume Caedmon
    06. D’Andre
    05. Wilbur
    04. Proteus
    03. Marcel
    02. Peters
    01. Hansel

    1. 😀👌 Now that’s the way to do it; a clear top 10 to argue over…

Wu Kong? I see that Monkey in my dreams and it shakes me awake… He only makes Top 10 in a Worst Heroes list. That guy never committed to anything ever -about as consistent as 90s dial-up internet

Chao? I sneezed and he fainted. He’s a roll over… He dies so quick I’m starting to think he’s greyscale

Hansel? The #1 4-Star hero in the world? The guy’s all about himself… He’s just a glory hunter! No, no, no… Rigard, now there’s a Hero for the Masses, a Hero for the kids to look up to!

Haha – Only joking. It’s a solid list. Thank you so much for playing along.

      1. Just a couple things:

        1) He said “Costume” Wu-Kong. Your response was for normal Wu.

        2) Why not Almur in that list? For 4 star, he’s like a mini Evelyn, but with an extra ability.

        Cheers!

        1. Hi MC! I guess I just hate Wu-Kong. That monkey gives me the chills, even when hiding in a costume.

I like Almur and did consider him, it’s because he’s a bit of an elemental specialist that I didn’t. If you take away the reduction of max health, which really doesn’t change much, the rest is good, but not top 10 for me.

Thank you for commenting and catching my silly mistakes! I appreciate it.

      2. I would think Tettukh is just like Peters but on steroids!

I also think Anton should be mentioned because he does have a 44% chance to revive….I could be mistaken but, he is the only 4* revive hero.

        1. Anton is a great hero. As you say, the only 4 Star hero to revive.

And he does it well, (also recently buffed), plus he’s new, so could probably replace a Season 1 hero… But, that T1 Special is an absolute wind up to me. I hate miss’ers.

          Thanks for stopping by McBain

  11. Ahoj Old Cynic, moc si vážím toho co děláš. Tvé postřehy jsou velice užitečné. Děkuji

Translated: Thanks Martin, I’m grateful to have readers. Thanks for your support.

  12. Thanks for this article! I pointed my alliance towards it and hope they had a chance to give it a read.
You bring up excellent points about the reasoning behind your top 10. Helps me evaluate heroes in my collection. For instance, don’t worry about having a cleanser, just bring Kiril to counter debuffers.
Speaking of debuffers, 2 classic heroes that I don’t think have been mentioned. Grimm and Tiburtus. Even with all my options, these brutes get plenty of use.
Have you posted anything on raid tournament strategies? I’ll have to take a look. My favorite F2P way to get loot. Would love to become more consistent with top 1% placements.
    Take it easy!

    1. Hey Nurgles! I do mention Grim and Tibs in the Frank section. I don’t have anything on Tournament Strategies, although it’s something I’ll give some thought to.

      Thanks for visiting and commenting!

      1. I figured Grimm and Tibs made it in there. Guess I missed them because I don’t have frank. 🙂
Love to check out your thoughts about tournament strategies if/when you have a chance to ruminate on them.
For instance, do you feel it’s always best to go a mono color when it’s opposing color is excluded from tournament? To me, I don’t see why you wouldn’t, but I run into plenty of teams that don’t.
        Oh well, have fun!

    2. Need a cleanser because kiril can’t deal w. Poison, Fire, Blind, Vela’s water, sandstorms and did i mention fire ?
Heroes like Jabberwock & Costume Azlar kind of makes me happy, knowing i just need an extra healer & THAT is where D’andre shines – gimme that 24% mana boost!!!

  13. It’s interesting how my change in play style has changed this list some for me. Wilbur was a favorite for me until his “share the damage” cost me a few matches in a row and I moved strictly to taking out the tank, then specific heroes one at a time. Now he’s lost his emblems (to Leonidas of all people!) and only sees action against green titans.
Of the heroes I have, I’d have to put Ametrine at the top of the pile. She is truly amazing. I’m tempted to re-emblem her with a defense path to make her a little tankier (I’ve lost to some taunters when she got knocked out early).
    C. Rigard is definitely not top of the heap for me, but that is largely because I play with Kunchen a lot and he does basically the same things. Play style again.

  14. Since this list was made E&P has released the W3K (War of the Three Kingdoms) 4 stars and at least 1 (Xiahou Dun you rated Deity and the other 3 Archangels) might steal a spot on this list. I wonder how they stack up in comparison? I was fortunate enough to pull all 4 but have not started leveling them as I also pulled Zhang Fei who is climbing the ladder first. Season 5 has another batch waiting in the wings too so more fun to come.

    1. Hey Dave, I think we might have to wait for season 5 for this list. The new W3K heroes were really strong, too. I was actually thinking about an update to the 3 star list too.

It’s also good to give it time so we can digest their performance for a few tournaments!

      Thanks for visiting, and congrats!

      1. I’ve got Xiahou Dun nearly maxed. Haven’t tried him out in tournaments yet but am looking forward to doing so. I found it interesting that he’s been mentioned because there’s been so much back and forth in these comments about buff dispellers. I have faced a maxed version of him in raids and was able to deal with him pretty handily [I won’t say how yet but might chime in when the time comes with a comment entitled something like “How to Be Done with Xiahou Dun (Please Excuse the Pun)”]. Nonetheless, I think he’ll be a candidate for a top 4* list in the future by the looks of him.

      2. Wow, since this post was published there have been a boatload of new 4 star heroes. Sun Shangxiang
Wang Yuanji , Xiahou Dun , Zhou Yu, Ahhotep, Azmia, Junaid, Ptolemy, Scoratek, Bellerive, Kalǿ, Lemminkäinen, Mielikki, Zhabog, Maheegan, Meadow, Arges, Brontes, Steropes, Ana-Belle, Cupcake and Waddles have all been released and a lot of these are top tier heroes. Don’t want to add to your work load so just an FYI! Keep up the awesome work!

        1. Hey Dave, yep! A whole heap of new heroes to consider. I think it needs to be a yearly event (as I have to update the 5-Stars, 3-Stars, Best Heroes, etc). I’m also expecting a bunch of new heroes to start coming through in the buildup to Christmas.

Some of those heroes are awesome: Ana Belle, Waddles, Azmia, Kalo.. 😁

  15. With the newest 4* Hero after recent buff, I would recommend to have Xiahou Dun and Anton to be included in top 10. The reason is that you can literally use them as 5* for offense after fully emblemed/LB. Except for newly nerfed Ferant, I am not sure any of 4* is good enough for top 100 defense team. Therefore, my ranking is purely based on offense.

  16. Hey old cynic, solid top 10, wouldn’t change a lot myself because I got 7 of them myself😁. Makes me think I should start on ametrine and Anastasia though. I was really happy to see frank in it, but what are your thoughts on him in costume? And also, maybe Orla deserves a spot in it as well. Working on her now and she looks great for fast wars and tournaments

    1. I like the Costume, but without it he has that top drawer -44% defense. For me, that’s a serious game changer.

Anastasia is crazy strong! I’m sure you’ll like her.

      Thanks for visiting Duende!

      1. I decided to use him without costume in the fast tournament that’s happening now. Together with ferant, gulli, the evil tree and tettukh he’s doing really good (proteus in defteam instead of the tree).

  17. With all the spare time you have on your hands, I thought you might want to put a list of “Best 4/5* Defense Heroes” War planning, for me, is always difficult and, being a (Very)C2P I want to work with my best options. Something to consider.

  18. As OC has pointed out, a lot of current 4*s didn’t exist when this review was posted, including the C2 classic heroes. From those alone, I think C2 Li Xiu, C2 Caedmon, and C2 Kiril could make top 10, while Buddy, Frank, and Ametrine probably wouldn’t even make the top 20 in today’s game. I’d love to se an updated version but with so many heroes out there now, it would be an even more daunting task than it was in 2022 to narrow it down to a top 10.
